Marina Lambrini Diamandis better known by her stage name Marina and the Diamonds is a Walsh indie/pop singer. When describing the origin of the name, she said;

Her music style

Marina doesn’t have any music background. "I probably have a bit of a different sound because I don’t really know what I’m doing". Marina tends to get catalogued as a new wave pop artist. In an interview with ‘The Guardian’ she said ‘ I suppose I'm an indie artist with pop goals.’ PopMatters commented on her vocal delivery and attitude saying it "has a tendency to overshadow the music, which is often melodically inventive, but we are rarely given the chance to realise this." The Guardian's Paul Lester wrote that "her songs are hard to fathom. They veer between simple keyboards-based ballads and more upbeat and catchy, quirky new wave-inflected numbers enhanced by percussion, guitar and drums."[

Seventeen Marina self-released her debut Mermaid vs. Sailor, Recorded on to her computer, edited on garage band, she created a handmade CD’s , sold songs on MySpace. The music video for Seventeen looks homemade, they have used a handheld digital camera as they film her walking down a river, possibly in her home town. She did have long shots and close ups of the singer walking however did not consist of a narrative or another location. Editing lacks continuity which shows how unprofessional the video was.

She is wearing a star t-shirt, black blazer and bright purple long skirt, which goes along with her trend. She has a trademark of wearing bright/retro/vintage look and has continued this through out her career.

Video styleThe majority of her music videos do not have a structured narrative, as they consist of different scenes in different locations that share a theme but do not have a story. Her songs tend to be happy/playful and the videos tend to be cheerleader/cartoon/ vintage which is also what her trademark style is, so they both two work together. Her videos tend to be very bright especially her clothing. She is always the main subject, if there are other characters they do not shine out of video that much.

Hollywood and Homewrecker Acoustic Marina tends to do a lot of acoustic versions of her songs that are a slower paced version. Although the less energy to the song she does keep her constant fashion trends of bright/vintage clothing. They used very simple shots of longshots and close ups of her singing in front of the mic and not much movement from her.

Except form the bright, artistic shoulder pads and right blue high heels this outfits it reverently moderate; with black leggings and a white top, however the shoulder pads make the outfit look like the fashion statements she tends to support. This outfit is more of a classic marina outfit; as it is the type of outfit that is known in her trade mark. Classy vintage and pink. This is what most of her music video and photos outfits are designed towards. Her sounds have a old feel to them in comparisons to nowadays songs. The blonde hair had also become someone what a trade mark for her.

Marina’s trade mark style influences her music videos hugely, she is always wearing something of the four clothing styles; pink, vintage, cartoon or cheerleader and the music videos itself tend to follow it as well.
