1. Introduction

This document gives details of the MCP (Maritime Cargo Processing Plc) implementation of the Inward VERMAS (Verified Gross Mass) message. The message is used to update the Verified Gross Mass and directly related information on one or more laden export containers. All units included in the message must have been previously booked on the system. The message will be processed by Destin8 and a VMS02 (VERMAS Acceptance Report) or VMS03 (VERMAS Rejection Report) will be sent to the local office of the sender to advise him if the message has been accepted or rejected. The VMS03 report will list all units that have been rejected together with the reason(s). In addition to the acceptance or rejection report a VMS01 Warning Report may be sent detailing units where minor errors were found, but were not deemed serious enough to result in them being rejected. The sender may also request that an EDIFACT APERAK message is returned to inform him if the VERMAS has been accepted or rejected. All units that are accepted will have their Verified Gross Mass together with any additional VGM details (Weigh Date & Time, Weigh Method, Reference, Responsible Party and Authorised Person updated on Destin8. The VGM information entered will be passed on to the Terminal Operator as part of the EBM01 (Export Booking Amendment) output.

2. Message Construction and Transmission 2.1. General

This guide is valid for the SMDG Verified Gross Mass message (VERMAS), based on the D.16A directory. The SMDG specification should be referenced if a full message definition is required. The message is still awaiting its final approval by UN/CEFACT.

Only Message Functions (BGM:1225) value 9 (Original) and 5 (Replace) will be

accepted. If there is a need to update the original values sent for a container then any details sent in a replacement message will be processed as an update. Amendments to the VGM details after they have been updated by the Terminal Operator will only be possible if the Working Port allows this to happen.

2.2. Data Requirement Indicators Throughout this guide every segment group, segment and data element has its

UN/EDIDACT status set as follows: M Mandatory D Dependant O Optional X Not Used Whenever a segment group, segment or composite data element is shown as not used no lower level information is included in this guide.

2.3. Email Address VERMAS messages can only be received by the Destin8 system via Internet SMTP or

Internet FTP. The Email address to which all Internet SMTP messages should be sent is: Test System [email protected] Live System [email protected] Special arrangements are required for Internet FTP processing. Further details are

available on request.
