This dierence could indicate that greater barriers to employment exist for individuals who live on-reserve compared to those who live o-reserve.

New Brunswick and the rest of CanadaIn March, 2,100 jobs were added to the NB economy: 1,100 full-time and 1,000 part-time positions. The unemployment rate in NB fell slightly from 10.4% to 10.1%, compared to 6.8% nationally (Statistics Canada, Labour Force Survey).

Did You Know? The Aboriginal Skills and Employment Training Strategy (ASETS) exists to help Aboriginal people find a job or upgrade their skills through:

skills development; training for high-demand jobs; job finding; programs for youth; programs for urban Aboriginal

people with disabilities; and access to childcare. There are four (4) ASETS agreement holders in New Brunswick: North Shore Micmac District Council (NSMDC), Saint John River Vally Tribal Council (SJRVTC), Mawiw Council Inc., and NB Aboriginal Peoples Council (NBAPC). You can benefit from this service in the communities by contacting Employment and Training Officers (ETOs).

The ASETS agreement holders contact information is listed on www.esdc.gc.ca. Click on Jobs and Training, then Aboriginal Programs.
