MARKET NEWS FOR WEEK COMMENCING, 16 OCTOBER 2017 Delicious R2E2 mangoes, sweet and mild flavoured! ASPARAGUS Asparagus is going through quite the flush at the moment. Prices are hitting rock bottom and the product is premi- um. Don’t miss out on this opportunity. BLUEBERRIES A mountain of blueberries has arrived in the market this week. Prices are low and the berries are large and full of flavour. ESHALLOTS Eshallots are going to firm up next week due to the rainy weather. This sort of weather over a long period causes dis- ease in the plant. ZUCCHINIS Zucchinis are going to shorten up due to a disease called Mosaic which is go- ing through the Bundaberg region. This is making producers have to plough crops into the ground before it spreads. SWEET POTATO Sweet potatoes are going to be very short if all the rain that is forecast falls around Bundaberg as the produce won’t be harvested. LETTUCE, CAULIS AND BROCCOLI Lettuce, Caulis and Broccoli are now all coming out of Victoria as the local prod- uct is weather affected. Prices have risen slightly on the lines. MANGOES Mangoes are increasing in supply from the NT. We now also have top quality R2E2 available as a second option. The mangoes market should ease as fruit becomes more abundant. STRAWBERRIES Strawberries are problematic in supply. We are currently using a mixture of Stanthorpe, and WA fruit to fill orders. Next week Victorian product will also come on line. TOMATOES Tomatoes and Egg Tomatoes will likely rise in price next week as a major rain event is predicted for the Queensland coastline including Bowen. STONE FRUIT High chill fruit from Stanthorpe will start next week in yellow flesh nectarines and white flesh peaches. We will be using our two favourite growers - Traprock Orchards and Pikes Creek Orchards. They have worked hard over the years to improve and develop new varieties and the fruit improves each year. We will see a size decrease in the fruit as we transition from low chill to high chill. It will take a couple of weeks for fruit to size up. Swan Hill fruit has not yet started. We will continue to use Kumbia fruit to fill the holes.

Delicious R2E2 mangoes, sweet and

mild flavoured!

ASPARAGUS Asparagus is going through quite the flush at the moment. Prices are hitting rock bottom and the product is premi-um. Don’t miss out on this opportunity.

BLUEBERRIESA mountain of blueberries has arrived in the market this week. Prices are low and the berries are large and full of flavour.

ESHALLOTSEshallots are going to firm up next week due to the rainy weather. This sort of weather over a long period causes dis-ease in the plant.

ZUCCHINISZucchinis are going to shorten up due to a disease called Mosaic which is go-ing through the Bundaberg region. This is making producers have to plough crops into the ground before it spreads.

SWEET POTATOSweet potatoes are going to be very short if all the rain that is forecast falls around Bundaberg as the produce won’t be harvested.

LETTUCE, CAULIS AND BROCCOLILettuce, Caulis and Broccoli are now all coming out of Victoria as the local prod-uct is weather affected. Prices have risen slightly on the lines.

MANGOESMangoes are increasing in supply from the NT. We now also have top quality R2E2 available as a second option. The mangoes market should ease as fruit becomes more abundant.

STRAWBERRIESStrawberries are problematic in supply. We are currently using a mixture of Stanthorpe, and WA fruit to fill orders. Next week Victorian product will also come on line.

TOMATOESTomatoes and Egg Tomatoes will likely rise in price next week as a major rain event is predicted for the Queensland coastline including Bowen.

STONE FRUITHigh chill fruit from Stanthorpe will start next week in yellow flesh nectarines and white flesh peaches. We will be using our two favourite growers - Traprock Orchards and Pikes Creek Orchards.

MARKET NEWS FOR WEEK COMMENCING,16 OCTOBER 2017

AVOCADOSHASS AVOCADOS The quality of NZ Hass Avocados is look-ing great however prices are steadily on the rise with future indications suggesting production will be down for the season. There are very limited supplies of Australian fruit still available on the market. WA avocados look to be approximately a few weeks away.

ORANGESNavel Oranges 3kg NavelsQuantities of navel oranges have eased moderately, we will look to changing over to seedless valencia’s in the coming weeks.

New season valencia orangesWe will have a “gap” in supply of valencia’s for the next few weeks.

Australian Lemons Supply has eased slightly with prices increasing moderately. We will continue with southern fruit - quality remains excellent.

Australian Ruby GrapefruitThere are limited amounts of yellow available however red/ruby is in good supply - quality is fantastic.

PAW PAWPaw Paw quality in general is good - prices have remained constant.

ROCKMELONSSupply of quality fruit remains steady however prices have increased moderately as hot weather increases demand. We will continue using NQ fruit for the next several weeks.

APPLESApples and grapes will remain stable in price and quality.

GREEN BEANSWe will continue to have quality issues with machine picked green beans. Heat and rain are causing havoc on the crops. Hand-picked beans are a better option at present.

CELERY The celery market is coming back in value. Increase supply from Queensland and southern markets is creating an over- supply. Quality remains perfect.

TOMATOESThe Truss tomato quality is in decline. Recent heat waves in southern states have affected quality and quantities. We are using selective buying practices to control the quality standard. Try to keep displays to a minimum to reduce waste.

BROWN ONIONWe are only weeks away from changing over to new season Queensland brown onion. Quality is looking good for the start of the season. We are waiting for the second variety to be dug, to ensure it has more of a browner shell around the onion. Pricing will remain the same.

Don’t forget to buy your HALLOWEEN PUMPKINS early before we sell out. The last two years’ trend saw the markets cleaned out of Halloween pumpkins the week before the Halloween weekend.

Avo Fresh shorts - Western Australia is picking limited volumes of avocados as they are concerned of running out of fruit before Nth Qld starts. Crop volume is much less than anticipated. The tri-states have finished picking. NZ is getting up and going however NZ has half the fruit volume of last year. Their supply will be reduced for the next two weeks.

MC24 Coleslaw 800gr x 6 is not available. This is due to the rebranding. Hopefully this will be back by the end of month.
