Students travelling on buses to and from school
The Department of Education has introduced a computerised system to mark students on and off the school bus runs
which Westernport Bus Lines have now had to put into place this term.
This system checks when students get on & off the buses allowing the Department to see how the bus service is being put
to use and also confirm that no students are left on buses.
With the new system we are required to know by 2.30pm if a student’s travels plans involving the school buses have
changed for that afternoon. This then allows us time to log onto the computer
system and change the students travel details.
All information concerning bus travel must be directed to the school office either by phone call or via the student’s com-
munication diary.
Under no circumstances should this be done via Seesaw. Seesaw is for use of classroom base
activities only.
Seesaw should also not be used to inform of a student absence or relating to any excursion
information.
Dear Parents and Carers, As this is my final newsletter as Acting Principal of Marnebek, I wish to thank all of the stu-dents and staff, School Council members and the entire school community for their fantas-tic support over the last few years. I commenced in the Acting Principal role Term Four 2016. Over this time we have made many positive changes at Marnebek. These have included the introduction of Literacy and Numeracy Rotations - supported by parent helpers and volunteers, the development of our Community Connections Program as well as an extensive building program to improve opportunities and outcomes for our students across both campuses. Whilst I have greatly enjoyed my role leading the school, I decided not to apply for the recently advertised Executive Principal position as I wish to dedicate more time to family and my commitments outside of school. I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome back to Marnebek School—Jenny Hamilton – who was with us previously in the role of Assistant Principal of the Senior Campus. Jenny will commence the role of Principal beginning Term Three 2019. I wish Jenny all the best with this exciting role and I am sure you will all join me in making her feel warmly received. I look forward to the next chapter in the Marnebek journey. Kind Regards Kathy Weston

Classroom 402
This term in 402, we have been
busy completing some of our SPEC
tasks- looking at life skills, our-
selves and the world around us.
Our favourite activity was making
volcanoes! We had to do this out-
side because it got really messy.
We would like to share our volcano
recipe with you all.
You will need: a cup, spoon, bicarb
soda, vinegar and red food dye.
Pour vinegar into the cup, and then
put some food dye in it. Then get
some bi-carb on the spoon and mix
it in. Watch the magic happen!

On Friday 14th June Marnebeks first ever seniors Hockey team won the SSSSA final and brought home the Plaque that will hang in the office at the seniors campus.
Our first match was an absolute thriller, the score was 12 all. This lead to a penalty shootout. Three shots each team for goal, unfortunately we lost 2/3 to Ashwood.
Our second match was against Heather-wood, we won 7/2. Our third match we played against Rossbourne/Emerson and we won 7/1 and our third match was against Naranga and we defeated them 9/0.
These combined results lead us to the grand final which played against Ashwood. Marnebek played like a team utilised their skills on the field and won the match 3/0.
Congratulations to our senior mixed hockey team Sandra and Priscilla were so proud of your determined attitude and relentless effort and we brought home the plaque. Well done!

"Ideas to Support Your Childs Learning at Home"
Homework idea 1
Reward reading and resilience
Keep a visual record of the wushka reading your child does at home.
Plan a fun activity you could do together when your child has read X number of books.
Build vocabulary and conversing skills
If there is a WUSHKA book your child particularly enjoyed, plan an outing or activity that relates to the book. For example, if the book is about pets, visit a pet shelter. This will help your child to develop and use new language from the book, and converse on a topic of interest.
Homework idea 2
Show that maths is used everyday
Make a meal together. Look for all the maths opportunities and encourage your child to participate.
Ask your child to count: get X number of items.
Use directional language such as the bowl is on top of the plate. The spoon is in the left drawer.
Use language around fractions – fill/empty it to half.
Read any numbers on the packets and boxes and talk about why they are there and what they mean
Use language around cooking times. Talk about terms such as minutes, vs. seconds or hours.
Look at the numbers on heat dial. Discuss safety around heat. Discuss hot, cold, and warm temperatures
Community Connections Program
The Community Connections program team have
had a fantastic start to the school year. Actually we
were still experiencing amazing things on Boxing
Day 2018 when a large contingent of students and
staff witnessed day one of the Boxing Day test.
Before we knew it the holidays had finished and
our sailors were having fun learning new skills on
how to sail a yacht on Port Phillip Bay whilst our
other students and staff were at Albert Park watch-
ing the F1’s strut their stuff at death defying
speeds. Every week a class from either the juniors,
middles or seniors were visiting the national sports
museum or the sky deck at the Eureka building.
Our students have been entertained every week-
end either through watching the Collingwood Net-
ball girls or visiting the MCG, AAMI Park or Marvel
Stadium to cheer on their favourite AFL, NRL or the
Melbourne Rebels Rugby Union team.
Term Three will see more classes visit the National
Sports Museum, the Sky Deck, Cranbourne racing
Turf Club, as well attending AFL and NRL matches
on the weekends.
Gumbuya World is a fantastic theme park with so
much to offer out students. A date will be set in the
near future and we anticipate that the entire school
will be involved in this amazing adventure.
