New Year's Resolu on: The Bible in a Year! We are at that time of year again... when the calendar flips to the next year. I have decided this year that I want to read the Bible daily as my resolution. I'm asking those of you who are interested in also taking this challenge, to join me. There are two options I recommend for 2021:

A book published by The Augustine Institute entitled, Bible in a Year: Your Daily Encounter with God. It is a paperback available on Amazon.com for $29.95.OR

A free 20 to 25 minute daily podcast by Fr. Mike Schmidt through Ascension Press. Fr. Mike will follow a printed reading plan. A copy will be emailed to you when you register for the program. You do need your own bible for this path. Ascension Press published The Great Adventure Catholic Bible last year. This podcast does follow the plan using that book. It is availa-ble for $59.95 (with a discount through Ascension), but I be-lieve any Catholic Bible you have at home should be fine. Here's the link to register for the podcast: https://ascensionpress.com/pages/biy-registration

I would love to have a weekly Zoom meeting to discuss the reading with anyone who decides to join me on this 2021 jour-ney! Questions, comments or concerns? Please call, text or write [email protected] or 339.933.0515.

Dear Church Family, We want to thank you all. Bob and I are overwhelmed by the kindness, love and support we have received. Tons of cards, meals, Masses, gifts and most of all prayers that have poured in have made this time easier for us. We feel the love! Thank you to Claudette Berrio who set up a meal train for us; the meals are greatly appreciated. I had major surgery in November and I am recovering nicely. I had 2 rounds of Chemo in December and we are hoping Jan 25 will be the last Chemo and I will go into remission. Six weeks after the last chemo I hope I will be cancer and chemo free….maybe I will have a lit-tle hair by then. We love you all—Happy New Year! Bob and Mary Counihan

A Prayer for Our Elected Leaders:

Eternal Father, our elected leaders face a great respon-sibility – and carry a heavy burden – in serving this na-tion and protecting the dignity and rights of all its citi-zens. We ask You to protect them from the attacks of the devil. May they be guided by You in all their deci-sions and govern in such a way as to honor You and Your laws.

Grant them the grace to speak and act with humility, honesty, and integrity in all situations. Give them wis-dom in decision-making, courage when confronting the evils that assail our country, and the strength to do what is just and honorable. Let them be defenders of the rights of all people to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. May they protect life from conception to natural death; marriage between one man and one woman; the right of parents to choose their children’s education; and the common good of the nation.

Lord, we are facing uncertain times, We, Your children, are anxious about the future. We pray that our politi-cians will work together to end division and unrest. We pray for health, economic strength, justice, and free-dom for all, so that we may use our talents and pros-perity to serve You and our neighbors here on earth.

We ask all this through the intercession of America’s patroness, Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, and all American saints, especially: St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, St. John Neumann, St. Kateri Tekakwitha, St. Isaac Jogues, and Venerable Augustus Tolton.

“The way you live your life will be affecting people for generations to

come until the end of time. What story are you telling with

your life?”

Baptism of the Lord The pastor cracked up laughing during the sprinkling rite when a young and unappreciative parishioner called out, “Hey, you got my hair wet!” The sanctity and significance of the moment was lost in the stifled giggles of those who heard the objection—which would have been most of the Church. It didn’t help that the deacon had removed his glasses.

The sprinkling rite reminds us of our Baptism, asking us to once again renew our Baptismal commitment to our faith. When we baptize, the community celebrates and welcomes the child or adult into the Church. But what about us? Bap-tism should remind us of our own faith journey and help us pay attention to how well we live it and how well we help others live it too. As a family we journey in faith. We are the best witness to faith, modeling to each other what it means to follow Christ, and be faithful and true to His teaching. It’s not just the “pagan babies” and non-believers who need to know the Lord. It’s those with whom we share dinner and a home and a ride to school. Bless yourself and bless your home with the water of Baptism. And don’t mind if a little gets on your hair—or in your heart. ~James Gaffney, © 2009 Karides Lic. to St. George Publishing
