Accomplishment
"Strengthening skill sets is one thing that a person trying to accomplish any goal should practice."
"It is very simple to do any-thing when it is a part of who you are, and very difficult to do something when you 'try' to accomplish it." - Jonathan Bell
Protocol for Testing
Students must be on a
program in order to be eligible to test.
Students must wear their traditional white
uniform. Any student who is at the testing
but not participating
is still expected to be wearing their com-
plete uniform. Lead-ership students are
expected to assist in whatever capacity
necessary.
I once heard a strange
word. It is a word that I had heard before, but I never
thought much about the ac-
tual meaning of the word ‘ s ch ad en freu de ’ Nou n:
meaning: Pleasure derived by someone from another
p e rso n ’s m is fo rtun e . I thought ‘Can you believe
such a word actually ex-
ists?’ I then heard someone ask “When are we going to
declare the era of magical thinking to be over? When
are we going to disavow this nonsense that poverty
is a mindset as opposed to a
material condition?
And when are we going to
vanquish those--like new age gurus--who teach that
right thinking can over-
come anything?”
They then said “I've got
news folks, the people who contro l the wo rld 's re-
sources don't do it through
positive thinking, but with
bombs and the unapologet-ic use of violence. At best,
any beneficial (as opposed
to unrealistic) belief system can righteously embolden
you to take to the battle-field. These beliefs can
center you as you fight back against a serious
threat to your homeland or
safety, but beliefs are not in and of themselves the tools
used for fighting, however. I think, as a group, the mar-
tial arts community's com-plete, sustained and delib-
erate application of
"immersion therapy," founded upon the philo-
sophical epistemology of "Existentialism and Re-
spect"...until there is anoth-er marked, measured, and
forward moving process,
with the goal of rebooting our entire collective oper-
ating system to completely "wipeout" all trace of
psychosis with materialism
and its byproducts, should be the "consecrated" sys-
tematic order in the new
millennium. Beliefs can also be a "rest stop" for
those in denial...a reason NOT to fight. Freedom &
security costs, and it's a cost most of us are not will-
ing to pay. There are peo-
ple out there who will con-stantly tell you what you
‘can’t do’, what you’ve got to do is turn around and
say to them “WATCH ME.” Show respect even to peo-
ple who don’t deserve it;
not as a reflection of their character, but as a reflec-
tion of yours. - Dave Willis
….. ..STAY POSITIVE…..
When someone you love slips from this world, your
perspective changes and
you realize what is important and what is a
waste of emotional energy.

Page 5 Thank You Mrs. Arcuri
Mrs. Arcuri, I just want to say ‘Thank You!”
Your faithfulness and loyalty is so appreciated
by us and I think that it is long overdue that I
take a moment to say how much I appreciate all
that you do and all that you are to us. A letter
listing all the thoughtful things you have done
over the years would be ten feet long. You are
very special for lots of reasons. Whether the
event is a birthday party, Valentine’s Day gifts,
holidays, Testings, Snacks for Campers,
Parent’s Night Out, Pumpkin Carving Contests,
sewing on patches and embroidery services or
just those little niceties that you are always so
thoughtful with. You radiate kindness and pa-
tience with the kids, adults and new students
with the kindness in your eyes and that smile in
your voice. Life can get so hectic sometimes
and whenever we feel like we’re being pulled
in a hundred different directions, there’s that
special something extra that you always seem
to think of. I am not a very sentimental person
and I know that I probably take you for granted
because you are so steady and consistent.
When we moved the school last year even
though it was only a few miles to the east, it still
was a major logistical undertaking with all of
the work, painting, utilities, mail, phones, inter-
net, email issues, construction, inspections,
certifications, moving office furniture, etc. All of
this with a deadline for a Grand Opening cele-
bration date. We were able to conduct classes
during this extremely busy time because you
were there to help us. And when we needed to
be away from the school in order to tend to
personal family issues for an extended period
of time, I could not think of a solution to keep
Marshall’s ATA operational under the circum-
stances and I considered shutting the school
down. I could not impose on my son to do all
that he, you, Dr. Kurtz, Mr. Manzer and the Jun-
ior Leadership Team ultimately ended up do-
ing to keep the school open while we were
away. I didn’t even have to ask. You’ll never
know how much that meant to us. Thank you.

Life is but a stopping place,
A pause in what’s to be,
A resting place along the road,
to sweet eternity.
We all have different journeys.
Different paths along the way,
We all were meant to learn some things, but never meant
to stay…
Our destination is a place,
Far greater than we know.
For some the journey’s quicker,
For some the journey’s slow.
And when the journey finally ends,
We’ll claim a great reward,
And find an everlasting peace, we Together with the lord...
In Loving memory of my Dear Mother;
Mrs. Lola M. Marshall-Thompson - May she Rest in Peace
