Overview

Overview • Martinair Holland N.V., operating as Martinair, is a Dutch airline based in the

Amsterdam Metropolitan Area in the Netherlands.

• The airline was founded by Martin Schröder in 1958.

• As of 2014, Martinair mainly operates as a cargo airline with services to more than 50 international destinations.

• While flights are on a scheduled basis, charter services are also operated.

• The Martinair headquarters, jointly with the headquarters of Transavia.com, are located in the TransPort Building on the property of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.

• The airline additionally operates the Regional Jet Center (a mechanical service center) and the Martinair Flight Academy, the Netherlands’ oldest flight school.

• Martinair ended passenger service, which it had operated since its founding, in October 2011, after 53 years, prior to which it had passenger service throughout Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Africa from Amsterdam.

Corporate affairs: Global headquarters • The head office of Martinair is located in the TransPort Building, Schiphol East, on the

property of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Haarlemmermeer, Netherlands.

• Martinair relocated its office to the TransPort Building on Friday, 4 June 2010; the TransPort Building, built by Schiphol Real Estate, contains the headquarters of both Martinair and Transavia.com, which relocated into TransPort a month earlier.

• Construction of the headquarters, which has 10,800 square metres (116,000 sq ft) of lettable space, started on 17 March 2009.

• Schiphol Group and the designer firm Paul de Ruiter designed the headquarters; De Vries and Verburg, a firm of Stolwik, constructed it.

• The Dutch Green Building Council awarded its first Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM-NL) permit to Schiphol Real Estate for constructing the TransPort building.

• The United States Green Building Council awarded TransPort the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification in 2011.

• A parking facility is located below the TransPort Building, with parking accessible by payment.

• Martinair formerly occupied the Schiphol Center (Schiphol Centrum) at Schiphol Airport; Martinair gave its previous main office back to the airport after it moved into the TransPort Building.

Regional offices

• Apart from its main headquarters at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Martinair operates regional offices around the globe.

• Hong Kong: First international office, opened in 1975.

• Martinair USA, later Martinair Americas: Initially operated in New York City, but the U.S. operations office relocated to Boca Raton, Florida in the Miami Metropolitan Area in 1993. In 2008, the office relocated again to Doral, Florida in the Miami area; this office is located in the Doral Corporate Center One.

• Other major international offices are located in Frankfurt, Germany; London, UK; Brussels, Belgium; Nairobi, Kenya; Bogotá, Colombia; Buenos Aires, Argentina;

San Juan, Puerto Rico; Quito, Ecuador; and Santiago, Chile.

private pilot training and airline transport pilot training.

Fleet (cont.)• Martinair acquired four Boeing 747-400s from Singapore Airlines in 2006; these

passenger planes were renovated to freighters to replace the older Boeing 747-200Fs.

• In 2009, three of the four 747s were put in storage because the air cargo business was suffering significantly.

• While two of the 747-400s were rented to Air Cargo Germany in late 2010, the remaining 747-400s resumed service in May 2011 with an untitled colour scheme because Martinair has not decided if it will still operate the 747-400.

• The first McDonnell Douglas MD-11 was delivered in December 1994; six other brand new MD-11s were given to Martinair during the subsequent three years.

• Martinair obtained four McDonnell Douglas MD-11CFs (Convertible Freighters, of which Martinair was the launch customer) and two full freighters.

• Another MD-11F joined the fleet in 2004; Swissair formerly owned this one and then converted it to full freighter.

• Some of the adaptable MD-11 were remodeled to transport passengers in the high passenger peaks during the summer, from 1995-2006; the passenger restructuring was filled with 390 seats.

Fleet (cont.) • The demand was lower after 2006, and Martinair no longer needed extra seats; the

demand remained low until the airline ended all passenger flights after 53 years of service.

• Martinair’s average fleet age is fifteen years (including the four rented aircraft) as of 8 December 2011.
