Maryland Hillel is a pluralist organization committed to inspiring the 6,500 Jewish students at the University of Maryland to embrace their Jewish identities
ENHANCING THE LIVES OF JEWISH STUDENTSWith an estimated 6,500 Jewish
students enrolled at the University of
Maryland in College Park, Maryland
Hillel today serves one of the largest
Jewish student populations in the
United States. The breadth and
abundance of Jewish opportunities on
campusistrulyastounding.
Hillel’s staff of twelve works
tirelessly to satiate student thirst for
mean ing fu l oppor tun i t i e s tha t
complimentandenrichuniversitylife.
Our offerings include volunteer
alternative break trips to eleven
destinations around theworld, weekly
and festive Shabbat gatherings,
expressions of Jewish culture like four
Jewish a cappella groups andsomuch
more.
This brief publication is designed
for those new to our community and
veterans alike. Itoffersataste of what
we have in store for the coming year.

Message From Ari Israel- Executive Director
This year is my fifteen year as a
Hillel director. It has truly been an
exhilarating journey. I countmyself as
fortunate working for an organization
committed to enhancing the campus
e x p e r i e n c e a n d i n s o d o i n g
transforming the lives of the students
oncampus.
This year, Maryland Hillel will
again work on the cutting edge,
innovating and creating bold new
initiativesthatmotivateourstudentsto
attain new understandings about life,
Judaism,societyandleadership.
We wi l l aga in be invest ing
significantly in our Alternative Break
program,whichseesstudentsvolunteer
theirtimeoverbreakstoworthycauses,
bothinternationallyanddomestically.
We will institute a Jewish
EducationalActivist Initiative thatwill
task student leaders with pushing the
boundaries of Jewish education on
campus and ensuring that these
opportunit ies are re levant and
powerful.
Shabbatwill continue to evolve as
weexplorecreativewaystoensurethat
all our Jewish students find meaning
and value from this pivotal aspect of
ourtradition.
While,MarylandHillelanditsstaff
are working to revolutionize campus
life, Iamoftheconsideredopinionthat
wearemostsuccessfulwhenourefforts
are the product of a partnership
betweenHillel,parentsandstudents.
More important than any of the
bold initiatives that we have planned,
or the revolutionary projects we will
launch,willbeoureffortstosolidifyour
r e l a t i o n s h i p s w i t h a l l o f o u r
stakeholders.
Maryland Hillel will be calling on
its students, parents and alumni this
year to work with us in charting an
even bolder Jewish community in
College Park andconsequently a more
t r a n s f o rma t i v e a nd e n r i c h i n g
experienceforourstudents.
