Greetings Brothers,

What can I say about the great things that’s been happening in our Fraternity in Kentucky? First, we were able to help Disable American Veterans in Knott County. It was an honor to present a check from the Grand Lodge of Kentucky Veterans Affair Program. Myself, Richard (Dick) Short Grand Junior Warden, and Doug Harvey Grand Tiler and the members of Hind-man Lodge #689 a devoted and dedicated group of brother Masons.

Second, making a memorable day for the Grand Lodge of Kentucky, we traveled to Zebulon Lodge No. 273 in Prestonsburg. Where we presented 4 checks for $500.00 dollars each to help four high school graduate students to continue with their college education. What a Blessed Day we had. The Brothers of Zebulon Lodge No. 273 having great leadership and men with different ranks traveled the great state of Kentucky so they would be able to present the stu-dents with the First Grand Lodge Scholarship. Lead by PM Brother Don McCoy, who was called to lay down his working tools by the grand Geometrician of the Universe during their travels. “Rest in Peace my brother”. This inspired the brothers of Zebulon Lodge even more. We all need to be proud of Zebulon Lodge. As we look forward to years ahead our plan is to extend the scholarship to three scholarships. Giving one to each area; Area 1, Districts 1 thru 10; Area 2, Districts 11 thru 20; and Area 3, Districts 21 thru 30, with each area to receive $2,000.00 dollars for the most traveled. Brothers do not forget about our shut in Brothers. Have some fun, load up your vehicles go visiting your brothers in other lodges for a night of fellowship and good eaten.

This year, as the Grand Master of Free and Accepted Mason of Kentucky for the Excellence Award, I am asking each Lodge to read one full page of the Constitution in each stated meeting as this is not hard to do. I hope that each lodge that reads one page at a meeting will continue to read one full page at each Lodge meeting hereafter. We can never read the Constitution enough. Being a Master Mason reading the Constitution to our Lodges can benefit every Mason. In the Constitution on page #72, subject (MASTER MASON) (#53 Master Mason Entitled to full Benefits) A member of the Fraternity to receive the full benefits of the Order, viz: The right to attend the Lodge in all degrees, to vote upon petitions, vote for officers, to hold offices, to sit in Grand Lodge must be an Affiliated Master Mason.

Please, Masters or whoever may read the Constitution, after you read a full page of the Consti-tution open the floor for discussions for a couple of minutes, this time will help to observe the Applications of our Constitution within your lodge.

Well October is upon us, which brings the end of the Masonic year and it concludes my year as your Grand Master of Freemasonry of Kentucky. It is with great honor that I served the Craft of Freemasonry.

I can’t explain how much I appreciate the love and respect that was shown to me as I traveled across the great state of Kentucky over the past years; as DDGM, Grand Marshal, and the four years as an elected Grand Line Officer.

Brethren, your Brotherly love, and kindness that was extened to me and my wife as we traveled to meetings across the great state of Kentucky has been so rewarding. Thank you!

I want to take this time to “THANK EACH ONE” that had confidence in me to elect me as Grand Master of Kentucky Free and Accepted Masons. I hope to see each of you at the Grand Communication in October 2021, in Louisville Kentucky.

May God continue to Bless each of us, our families and fraternity. We are Not Above Nor Below, but on the Level

Fraternally Thine,Ernest C. JacksonGrand Master of Masons 2020-2021Grand Lodge Of Kentucky F. & A.M.

Brother Tate currently serves as Senior Deacon and he has held a position as an officer almost every year since becoming a Freemason. Brother Miller has served in every lodge office and currently sits as Secretary, the office he has held since 1987. Both have been blessed with good health through the years and have missed very few meetings.

Because Waco Lodge #338 use to meet twenty-five times a year and their remarkable attendance, Brother Miller esti-mates they have attended 1,250 meetings together between stated and called meetings which may be a state record. We wish them many more years working together, as they are still going strong! Photo Above Right

Covington Scottish Rite “I Didn’t Know That……”

Red Masonry as opposed to Blue Lodge Masonry generally refers to the Royal Arch Chapter Degrees. As an extension of the ‘Blue Lodge’, the term ‘Red Lodge’ was used to define the Capitular degrees from the first three symbolic degrees. Even today the term ‘Red Lodge’ is used in some parts of the world for Royal Arch Chapter Masonry, while Prince Hall Masons use ‘Red House’ and ‘Blue House’. Kentucky’s Royal Arch ritual states that the color blue denotes “friendship – a peculiar char-acteristic of a Master Mason” with scarlet symbolizing ‘ferven-cy and zeal which should actuate all Royal Arch Masons”.

The Grand Lodge of Kentucky recognizes several appendant degrees that use the color “Red” in their title or degrees. The York Rite’s Order of Red Cross; the Scottish Rite’s Rose Croix; the Masonic and Military Order of the Red Cross of Constan-tine and Appendant Orders; the SCRIF (Societas Rosicruciania in Civitatibus Foederatus} and the Royal Order of Scotland’s R.S.Y.C.S. (Rosy Cross).

The highly coveted Royal Order of Scotland is conferred through the Provincial Grand Lodge of USA and has two de-grees, that of Heredom which deals with Robert Bruce and the Battle of Bannockburn, and that of the Rosy Cross which is an officially recognized order of knighthood. Much of the ritual is in quaint old rhyme and is very interesting to the Masonic stu-dent. It is known to have existed as early as 1741, and the ritual is the oldest unchanged masonic ritual in use today. The Provin-cial Grand Lodge meets several times a year in different parts of the country. The Grand Lodge meets annually in Edinburgh, Scotland (MHJ May-2020 issue).

Lesser known, the SCRIF confers three orders; the first order confers grades 1 thru 4, the second, grades 5 thru 7, and the third order (High Council), grades 8 and 9. All of these grades are concerned with the esoteric streams of the Christian mysteries. Along with the grades, the presentation of educational papers is a major part of the Society. The annual national meeting of the SCRIF High Council (this year Nov. 5-6) has been held in Lou-isville the last several years. In the Kentucky group, meetings are held 4 to 5 times a year.

The Red Cross of Constantine has two other orders attached to it; “The Holy Sepulchre” and “St. John the Evangelist”, with an additional two ‘chair’ degrees. It deals with the Christian Reli-gion, originally despised, to one protected by Roman Emperor Constantine the Great. Constantine’s mother Empress Helena is said to have discovered the “True Cross” in her travels to the Holy Land the years 326-328. Constantine ordered the Church of the Holy Sepulchre built on the site. The members’ ladies, who conduct their own group meeting, always attend the formal dinners and social outings. Two such bodies reside in Kentucky.

All of the above are amazingly interesting, and are restricted to Christian Masons who have met particular requirements, usu-ally by service to the Masonic fraternity. All have a limited and/or selective membership. They are available by ‘invitation only’ to Kentucky Masons. A dress code for each is enforced. With the exception of the Provincial Grand Lodge, attendance is ex-pected.

The 18th degree in the Scottish Rite “Rose Croix” is perhaps the best known of those named ‘red or rose’. This degree is very old and believed by some to antedate the Master Mason degree. Its history and philosophy are much too elaborate to attempt to explain in this limited area. Suffice to say, the Christian ‘Rose on the Cross’ is explained as a great truth, that members of most all religions can easily understand.

The Order of Red Cross, now conferred as one of three orders of the Knights Templar (York Rite), was originally associated with the Royal Arch degree. It is certainly an old ceremony, dating to approximately 1740 or before, and is based on Truth being stronger than King, woman or wine. Obviously the basis of this degree is taken from the Holy Bible (1 Esdras 4:35 KJV) “Is he not great that maketh these things? Therefore great is the truth, and stronger than all things”.

For a Master Mason to petition the Scottish Rite or the York Rite is a very simple matter. No doubt a petition for one or the other will be handed to him within a month or so of his raising. As for membership in the others? …Well work hard in your lodge, York Rite and Scottish Rite and be patient. …….What do you think?

Your MLMA now has a complete set of the Southern California Research Lodge’s ‘Top 25 Books of the New Millennium (So Far)’ list, as was voted by Masonic scholars from across the USA. I would especially like to say ‘Thank you’ to our friends and Brothers Mike Barnett, Jeff Bryant, Dan Kemble and Monty Roberts, who generously continue to contribute to the ‘Friends of the Library’ program. Thank you also to the Past Venerable Masters of Covington Scottish Rite for their generous donation. Without their support and yours, we could not produce one of the finest small Masonic libraries in the tri state area.

You can visit your MLMA – Covington and receive a free li-brary card, any Wednesday, 6:00 to 8:00 pm or for an appoint-ment, email Bill Lorenz, Librarian: [email protected]

How’s your Masonic battery status?I’ve never really thought about it if my battery was running low. I’ve always thought my Ma-sonic Battery was pretty full. I’ve never thought that it might be running low and that I would need to charge it. My travels take me around our great Commonwealth, seeing friends and at-tending meetings, enjoying that fellowship. I thought I was charging my battery. It’s always a great pleasure to assist with growing Capitular, Cryptic, and our Templar Orders. The drives at times can be taxing, but I figured that was just part of the job.

seeing friends and attending meetings, enjoying that fellowship. I thought I was charging my battery. It’s always a great pleasure to assist with growing Capitular, Cryptic, and our Templar Orders. The drives at times can be taxing, but I fig-ured that was just part of the job.

Recently I traveled to the Grand Encampment Session. It was a long drive to Minneapolis, but the drive was utilized as a time to ponder ideas and visions for the future with my traveling companions. Arriving, It was there, I realized I could charge my battery more. It seemed like any other Grand Session at first. There were Sir Knights from all over attending. Many required a second look because they were dressed so much different than I’ve ever seen before. It was attend-ing the Devine Service, that soon changed that perception. Made me notice, my battery was charging, hearing so many Knights united in song. Singing and praying together was a thunderous sound I’ve never heard before. It made me proud to be a Knights Templar. It made me wonder what it would have been like so many years ago in our prime. When instead of 300 Knights if it was 3000 Knights. Afterward, I wished that I would have recorded it or took a video of it to share. It gave me a boost and charged my battery more. Being around so many Sir Knights and getting to talk about Templary with them, was a great experience.

So, I encourage you, check your battery level. Get out and CHARGE your battery. Maybe attend a meeting across town or maybe across the state somewhere. Get out and CHARGE your battery. Attend the Grand Session come to the Memo-rial Banquet pray and sing with us. (Advisory we can’t all sing). Talk to your fellow Companions from across the state and find out what’s going in Scottsville. Learn how and what they’ve done to add so many new members. Once we CHARGE everyone’s Battery. We’ll get through these difficult times and reach the stars… and forever proclaim Holiness to the Lord.

Yours in faith, Greg RaqueGrand Scribe, Grand Chapter of Kentucky
