FAITHFUL CITIZENSHIP

The Only Approved Catholic Voter Guide

It has come to our attention that several organizations are sending out “Catholic” voter surveys that are confusing because they appear to be Church-approved. This is not the case. The only official Catholic voter guide, approved by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, is Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship. In addition, Catholics in New York can also rely on the New York State Catholic Conference’s Guidelines for Political Activity. Any other surveys, guides or voter mailings should be considered partisan and/or promotional and not reflective of the fullness of the Church’s teaching on various social issues. For more information, visit: www.usccb.org/faithfulcitizenship and www.nyscatholic.org. BLESSING BAGS ~ During the summer months, Blessing Bags were assembled by our youth to be given to those in need. Perhaps you might like to keep 1 or 2 in your car. Please feel free to take and distribute to people you find in need. The Blessing Bags are in a red bin in the church office, located near the elevator.

SENIOR OUTING ~ Our senior group will be going to the Pump Station in Albany for lunch on Wednesday, October 12. We plan to leave the church parking lot at 11:00AM. If you would like to join us, please call Sr. Eleanor at 489-5408 and let her know if you need transportation or can provide a ride. Please call no later than 10:00AM on Tuesday, October 11. ADULT FAITH FORMATION - “Embracing an Alternative Orthodoxy - Fr. Richard Rohr on the Legacy of St. Francis” - a lecture series scheduled for Oct. 30; Nov. 13 & 27 at 9:45AM in Meeting Room 1. Topics central to Franciscan theology and practice covered this fall are: Atonement Theory, Eco-Spirituality, and the Christ Who Existed Before Christianity. Participants can purchase the workbook for the series on the Internet or at the Book House in Stuyvesant Plaza, Albany. The remaining topics in the lecture series will be scheduled for early 2017. For questions, please contact Dave Rowell at 729-4550 or email [email protected]

CONSECRATION TO DIVINE MERCY

Consecration to Divine Mercy is a spiritual exercise through which we receive graces to strengthen our Catholic spirituality and our ability to serve Jesus and His Church. When we participate in Divine Mercy Consecration exer-cises, we strive to entrust ourselves completely to Christ’s Merciful Love and further enable the Holy Spirit to perform great works of Mercy through us. The graces strengthen our courage to entrust ourselves completely to God so He can change our lives and use us as a ray of His Merciful Love from His Heart to others. During this Jubilee Year of Mercy, Bishop Ed is invit-ing everyone to join him in a 33-day preparation period, beginning Tuesday, October 11, 2016, Feast of Pope St. John XXIII, and culminating with the Consecration to Di-vine Mercy at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Albany, on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at 5:00 PM. To aid us in preparation, the book 33 Day to Merciful Love, by Fr. Michael E. Gaitley, MIC, is recommended. Daily readings takes 3-5 minutes and are then pondered through the day. The 33-day preparation can be done alone or in a group. The book is available at a variety of locations.
