Bishop Bradley will celebrate a diocesan-wide Holy Hour for the Healing of the Church on Sunday, September 30th at 3 p.m. at St. Augustine Cathedral, Kalamazoo. At this critically important moment in the life of our Church we are called to come together in prayer and devote our time for the intentions of the continued healing of all victims of abuse and for the ongoing healing and reparation of our Church and also for inspiration guided by the Holy Spirit that we will be lead in new directions for the good of all. A Mass will be celebrated on Sunday, October 7th at 3:00 p.m. at St. Phillip, Battle Creek, MI.

There WILL NOT be a 9:00 a.m. Mass on Tuesday, October 2nd as the priests are at Convocation. There WILL BE Holy Hour and Rosary at St. Charles at 6:30 p.m.

MAKING A REPORT OF SEXUAL MISCONDUCT

A REPORT OF SEXUAL MISCONDUCT may be initiated at the diocese of Kalamazoo’s Sexual Misconduct Question and Reporting Line: (877) 802-0115. A caller will be requested to provide his or her name and telephone number. All calls regarding sexual misconduct will be returned, usually within one hour. This toll-free telephone number has been established as a part of the Diocese’s effort to protect children, young people and other vulnerable people in our schools, parishes and ministries. This line is for reporting suspected sexual misconduct or child abuse within Diocesan institutions and ministries only. If you have some other concern about Diocesan schools, parishes or ministries, please contact the appropriate Diocesan school, parish or office directly.

Parish News and Dates to Remember

YOUTH GROUP BAKE SALE. The Youth Group will be having their first bake sale after both masses on SEPTEMBER 29TH AND 30TH! Please help us raise money for the Right to Life March in January and next summer’s Mission Trip to St. Louis Missouri in July. THE YOUTH GROUP will be meeting at the St. Mary’s Cemetery on Sunday, Sep-tember 30 from 5:30 - 7:30 to help with maintenance and clean up! BISHOP BRADLEY is going around to each deanery this fall to give a presenta-tion on DIOCESAN PRIORITIES and other subjects. This will be a similar format to what he has done in the past. We have him scheduled to come to ST. CHARLES for the EASTERN DEANERY MEETING ON OCTOBER 25TH AT 6:00 P.M. in the Hospitality Room, located in the Activi-ties Building at 71 Harrison St. in Coldwa-ter.

News from Fr. Vyverman

Dear Parishioners,

As you might have noticed the news last weekend, the monthly Diocesan edition of the Good News has officially been retired. This has been one source of communication that the Diocese has had with us for two decades (and some of us might remember the Proclaimer, the first Diocesan paper of the Kalamazoo Dio-cese). This is being replaced by a Kalama-zoo Diocesan edition of Faith Magazine. The ways that we communicate have certainly changed. My dad worked for the Kalamazoo Gazette for 37 ½ years until his retirement and now this publica-tion is just a shadow of what it once was. Yet we also have websites and many social media outlets that have replaced the way that we used to find out the news. Please look for the first edition of Faith Magazine around mid-November. It will present our Diocesan news and arti-cles to us in a new format and will reach more parish households. This Sunday afternoon, the Bishop will be

having a special Mass at the Cathedral at

3 p.m., a Mass of Reparation and Heal-

ing. I am planning to attend and concele-

brate this Mass with the Bishop and sev-

eral other priests. Please continue to

pray for the Church each day and I ask

you to try to attend the remaining Tues-

day evenings of prayer and/or Mass in

our collaborative at St. Charles or St.

Mary.

Thanks for Reading!

WIDOWED MEN & WOMEN’S SECOND ANNUAL MASS WITH BISHOP BRADLEY: A special Mass for all those men and women who have been widowed will be held on Thursday, October 11th, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Augustine Cathedral in Kalamazoo. A small reception will follow in the Crowley Center. RSVP to Socorro Truchan at 269-903-0199 or via email: [email protected].

RAFFLE DINNER AND DRAWING

The Raffle Dinner and Drawing will be November 3, 2018 after the 4:00 p.m. Mass. Top Prize is $5,000. There will be a separate drawing for $1,000 for anyone who buys/sells 10 tickets. Please return your money and ticket stubs to the col-lection basket in a separate envelope or return to anyone distributing tickets. Call Shannon Bir (517-617-0238) to get tickets or if you have any questions. Tickets are available after masses, in the Rectory or the School Office. Let’s sell all our tickets again this year for another successful fundraiser!!

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE - The words in today’s gospel, “Whoever gives a cup of water in the name of Christ will not lose their reward” hits us at home. As par-ents, we gain our “reward” when we bring water to a frightened child in the middle of the night, or Kool Aid to parched five-year olds, or hold ice chips to the fevered lips of a spouse. It is that simple and that sacred. In our homes, we give until it hurts “in the name of Christ.”
