IntroductionBWAY master data management is both a central logistics and plant function that can be used to change various aspects of production basic data.

Example:

BWAY master data management at the plant level will create/change master data pertaining to work centers, routings and production versions.

In SAP, this scenario is used to manage approved work centers, routings and production versions.

Routing - A routing type that defines one or more sequences of operations for the production of a material.

Routing Group - A routing group combines routings that describe similar production processes and are used to produce similar materials

Routing Sequence - The order in which several assets are assigned to one collateral agreement

Routing Operation - Independent part of a recipe executed on a processing unit.

Routing Control Key - Determines which business transactions should be executed for the object that belongs to the task list or order (for example scheduling or costing).

Routings:

The routing describes the operations, production steps that need to be applied for production of an item. It is possible and recommended to define group routings without a specific product number. Products are allocated to this group routing.

Re-using applicable existing routings reduces the number of new routings to be created.

Routing is plant specific. It can also be defined for a lot-size. The header contains a usage, status and planner group.

Organization Structure

Creating Production Master Data is a process that occurs only at the plant level for the work centers, routings and production versions.

The current organizational roles will fit with the processes described here:

Engineering (new products) Master Data management Plant Planning/Accounting personnel

Impacts to the business process are identified as follows:

A routing is comprised of information coming from various process areas (engineering, costing, production, master data…) which forces all the information to be consolidated in one place.

A BWAY business process needs to be developed for master data management to support the business change that will be required to assure data integrity.

The routing information will now be consolidated into one area of the system hence increasing data accuracy.

Realignment of resources and job roles will be required as a result of this implementation

Purpose

This work instruction is used to Create / Change / Display Work Centers.

DescriptionA work center is an organizational unit that defines where and when an operation should be carried out within a plant. A work center is unique within a plant. Work centers can be machines, people or production lines. Operations that need to be executed are defined on a task list and executed at the corresponding user assigned work center. This transaction enables the user to create basic data, set defaults, assignments, and define capacities and scheduling data pertinent to a work center. Work centers contain default values that are copied or referenced in operations at the time of task list creation. They also contain costing, scheduling and capacity data required for lead time scheduling and capacity planning.

Step 1 Enter the Client number given to you by your administrator.

Step 2 Enter User code.

Step 3 Enter Password.

Step 4 Click Enter.

Note: When logging into SAP instead of this simulation, you will need to use your SAP user name and password supplied by your company SAP Admin. If your company utilizes ‘Single Sign On’ then these steps are irrelevant as you are already signed onto SAP and only need to choose the desired system from the list. Many of the actions associated with the menu paths can be performed from icons, key strokes or using the mouse. This duplication or redundancy is built into the system to meet the varying needs or styles of the user. Some individuals enjoy using the mouse and menu paths, some get used to icons easily, some desire keystrokes while others prefer ‘right’ click or ‘double’ clicks.
