MQIM at UNB Fredericton The University of New Brunswick’s Master in Quantitative Investment Management (MQIM) degree is a one-of-a-kind one-year graduate program that will prepare you for a specialized career in quantitative investment management. The program will equip graduates with the fundamentals of finance knowledge combined with analytic and programming skills, as well as professional development competencies demanded by the finance industry.

Quantitative Investment Management integrates tools from finance, economics, applied mathematics, statistics and computer programming to address problems in derivative securities valuation, dynamic investment strategies and risk management. These skills are sought by investment and commercial banks, trading companies, hedge funds, insurance companies, corporate risk managers and regulatory agencies.

This program is a perfect fit for you if you are interested in a career in investment management and have a strong quantitative background in business, economics, mathematics, statistics, computer science, science or engineering.

CAREERS

The finance industry increasingly needs professionals with quantitative investment skills, especially for positions in the buy-side such as portfolio manager or risk manager in investment and commercial banks, trading companies, hedge funds, insurance companies and regulatory agencies. After completing our MQIM you will be qualified for a career in derivatives trading and valuation, and in risk management with banks, investment firms and brokerage houses, as well as other financial institutions and consulting firms.

In Canada, most pension funds are now adopting a quantitative finance approach and are thus potential employers of MQIM graduates. Some potential employers include the following:

• Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCO)• BC Investment Management Corporation (BCIMC)• Canadian Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB)• Ontario Teacher’s Pension Plan (OTPP)• Vestcor Investment Management Corporation (VIMC)

Hedge funds and financial software suppliers also require employees with the quantitative skills our MQIM graduates will develop.
