11courthouse areaPublic Workshop — Comments & Results
Excitement about the prospect of future development in Courthouse Area exists
Desire for more pedestrian-friendly streets, bike paths, & parks
Courthouse Area seen as “heart or center of town,” but further desire for more open space, green space, & park facilities
New Hospital, Government Center, Courthouse, & School Board all seen as economic assets
Opportunity to connect Hospital Center Boulevard with Hope Road via church property as alternate road/bypass to avoid Courthouse Road (VA-630)/Jefferson Davis Highway (US-1) intersection, especially attractive for local trips
Residents would like to expand mass transit and access to VRE connection/shuttle, centrally locating expansion for use by people who will work at th hospital and for those headed jobs in Washington, DC
Need for connectivity, specifically in terms of pedestrian movement, along the Courthouse Road (VA-630)/Jefferson Davis Highway (US-1) corridors
Residents would like to bring former Wayside Park back as park with a dog run
Interstate 95 (I-95) interchange updates desired to relieve traffic
