As part of our pipeline integrity services, Mears has extensive non-destructive examination (NDE) capabilities. We not only have over 50 technicians who are MT/UT Level II trained, but we also have the equipment to perform opportunist material verification, making Mears not only efficient, but cost effective as well. With different methods for verification, we have our customers covered.

Material verification can be done with little additional technician time

• Hardness testing• Chemical analysis - XRF/LIBS or burr sampling

• Acid etching• Microstructure analysis w/camera enabled field

Our primary method for verification is Pipeline Research Council International (PRCI), where we utilize techniques developed by PRCI and have developed an ISO 9001 process that’s been validated on over 50 pieces of pipe.

A second method for verification is the Massachusetts Material Technology (MMT) Hardness, Strength, Ductility (HSD) tester. Our technicians are trained to support the lead MMT technician (Level 1) which eliminates the mobilization and cost of a second MMT tech. This method also allows for chemical and microstructure analysis as in the PRCI method.
