Course description: This course is a part of the MASS Program. The course will introducestudents to various ideas and techniques of functional analysis. The topics covered willinclude normed vector spaces and examples; Banach and Hilbert spaces; functionals andoperators on vector spaces; elements of measure theory and spaces of integrable functions.Additional topics and applications will be explored as time permits.

Attendance: You are expected to attend every class.

Homework: Homework assignments will be given on a weekly basis and will be collectedon Wednesdays. The solutions must be neatly and clearly written and logically structured.

Exams, Project, and Grading Policy: There will be a written midterm exam and anoral final exam, the latter will include the presentation of your project. Projects will beassigned in the first half of October. The course grade will be based on your performanceon the midterm exam, the final exam, homework and the project.
