Math Olympiad at JFS

JFS Parents:

We are happy to bing Math Olympiad for 4th - 6th graders again to JFS this year. Please read through the entire flyer to get more information on how to participate in the JFS Math Olympiad Team via Class section or Test only section

Math Olympiad Class Section:

We are very excited to offer this after school program whose goal is to stimulate enthusiasm and love for Mathematics. This class will be open to 4th through 6th graders to the first 20 registrants. During the class, the students will discuss major strategies for problem solving, strengthen their math intuition, and have the opportunity to participate in 5 national competitions within the classroom. Our teacher, Mr. George C Lie, is one of our very own JFS grand parents and has agreed to volunteer his time to this program. George has a Ph.D. Degree in Chemical Physics and was a professor and chairman at Tsing Hua University in Taiwan and he was a visiting professor at Drexel University in Philadelphia!

The class will begin on October 8th and run through March 10th. It will be held at school on Tuesdays from 2:20 PM to 3:45 PM and is available for $100/student.

Math Olympiad Test Only Section:

Due to historic overwhelming interest in the Math Olympiad program, we will again offer a Test Only section for $50/student. This section will be available to 4th through 6th graders to the first 20 registrants. We are so excited to accommodate more students that love math and have an interest in participating in the test series!

INSTRUCTIONAL CLASS is NOT available for these students nor any feedback provided on the homework. There are 5 Math Olympiad tests that the student will participate, which will be held at JFS after school on the specific Tuesdays listed below. The students will need to check in by 2:20PM (right after school) and will need to be picked up by 3:00PM promptly on test days. No Makeups are allowed for the tests.

The dates of the exams are:

· Tuesday, November 12th · Tuesday, January 14th · Tuesday, January 21st · Tuesday, February 11th · Tuesday, March 10th

Registration Details:

If you are interested, please register online at http://jfspta.org. Registration will open on Tuesday, Oct 1st at 11 AM. Registrations are based on first come first serve. If you have been accepted to the program (In-Class or Test only) you will receive a confirmation email. Then you will have 3 days to submit your check along with your name, email, phone number, and child’s name in an envelope and leave in the Main Office PTA drawer to finalize your reservation. There will be a waiting list of 5 people collected just in case some do not turn in their checks in time as we will have to adhere to the timeline. Please register to either In-class or Test only according to your child’s availability and your requirements, but not both. In-class includes classroom teaching and tests, where as Test only section offers only test once a month starting from November. Also, please don’t double register by mom & dad separately for one kid. We will not accept those registrations with duplicate registration.

We realize that the spaces are limited and apologize in advance to those that do not make the quota. Please understand that due to logistics, this is all we are able to offer.
