What is a Series Rating?
Fully Rated: All protective devices are at least rated for highest possible current
Series Rated: Downstream breaker is individually rated lower than the system as a whole
Main Breaker
Branch Breaker

Series Ratings ProjectProblem: Outdated and Unorganized list of Series Ratings
Original list was tested in 1977 Losing customer projects – Could not verify a Series Rating Test data was dispersed in different locations
o Moon Township, Beaver, Haina, Lincoln
Goal: Centralize all data Have all data in one easy to use database Check current listings to verify that we have proven test data to support
ratings

Series Ratings ProjectCentralizing Data
Worked with managers from outside locations
Received over 44,000 entries of test data and 11,000 test reports
Organized it into an easy to use, interactive spreadsheet

Series Ratings - Additional Projects
Consolidation of UL 7819 and UL 11713 UL had two separate listings of approved series ratings for Eaton
o One list for Westinghouse and one list for Cutler-Hammer
Series Rating Calculator Created “calculator” to predict the likelihood of a successful series rating
based on test data
Residential & Light Commercial Sales Call Lead conference call with 100 sales managers and representatives
nationwide regarding series ratings and new request process

Microinverter Circuit Breaker Market
Opportunity: National Electric Code (NEC) Requires Arc Fault Protection for Microinverters
Microinverter market is growing rapidly (projected 56% increase by 2017) Take advantage of requirement by offering new breaker to comply
Goal: Begin PROLaunch Process For New Breaker Must know the number of microinverter installations per year Map out timeline for product Estimate sales, costs, labor, risk, etc.

Microinverter Circuit Breaker Market
Estimate Number Of Installations Only relevant data was number of installations Contacted manufacturers, research companies, and other experts to
gather useful information
Analyze Sales Opportunity Used business opportunity calculator to gauge potential Estimated number of sales, material cost, labor cost, attrition, etc.
Results: Estimated Annual Sales of $1.675M Estimated payback time of 1.6 years

Measurables & Accomplishments
Series Ratings Centralized database of all series ratings Verified that we have data for all ratings
UL consolidation One organized file that contains all approved ratings
Series Rating Calculator Tool that will save time when looking for a series rating
RLC Conference Call Created organized form for NAS series rating requests
Microinverter Circuit Breaker Began the launch process for new breakers When released, expected sales of $1.675M/year
