Multi-access Video Disk Recorder
MAV-777The MAV-777 is the flagship version of Sonys MAV-555 Series Multi-access Video
Disk Recorder. It is specifically designed for high-definition applications such as
rich content production and post production.
This new high-performance model inherits the operability, reliability and
connectivity of the MAV-555 that is based on MPEG-2 4:2:2P@ML compression disk
technology. It combines VTR-like control panel operation with all the advantages of
a disk recorder to provide both linear and non-linear editing capabilities for the
demanding needs of todays live, sports and news production applications in an SD
(Standard Definition) system.
Leveraging Sonys vast experience in the high definition world, the MAV-777, based
on HDCAM compression and advanced disk technology, offers tremendous
capabilities and various benefits for broadcasters and major production companies
to fulfill their rapidly rising requirement for high-definition content.
The MAV-777 provides unique functionality with features and benefits including
internal down converters that allow you to share your HD (High Definition) material
for day-to-day SD program production while securing the material for current and
future HD applications, thus enhancing production efficiency and increasing your HD
assets. The MAV-777 not only adds flexibility to your live, sports and program
production applications but its also an ideal video recorder for your multi-channel
HD editing suite in a multi-format era.

F E A T U R E S & B E N E F I T SHDCAM codec for superlative picture qualityThe MAV-777 offers excellent picture quality with thegreatest possible degree of scalability and compatibilitywhile maintaining a balance of picture quality, response, andediting and transfer efficiencies
Simultaneous 4-channel synchronous HD A/V I/OsThe real-time HD-SDI cards are available to support up tofour simultaneous inputs and outputs in the followingconfigurations: standard 1 in 1 out, and optional 1 in 3 out,2 in 2 out, or 3 in 1 out. This multiple-HD channel capabilityextends the flexibility of your system configuration.
Internal down converter for system flexibilityAll HD-SDI output ports are equipped with down-convertedSD-SDI outputs, so that both HD-SDI and SD-SDI can beoutput in parallel for your system convenience. There aretwo systems for system configuration flexibility: Output A,which does not have a superimpose function, and Output B,which does.
Simultaneous multi-operation with asynchronousnetwork I/FWhile recording an incoming feed, multiple operators canimmediately begin their editing processes. By using anetwork, the operators are able to air the content whileediting. They can also play back files to air with continuousrecording. Each file can be transferred asynchronously andthe transfer rate is dynamically adjustable to the condition ofthe port being used. This also offers a path to archivaldevices and remote servers.
Familiar VTR-style control panelFor operational convenience, the MAV-777 is equipped asstandard with the BKMA-505 Disk Recorder Control Panel. This familiar VTR-style control panel provides a level ofintuitive operation never before available in a disk recorder.Anyone who is familiar with front-panel VTR editing canoperate this machine, so there is a very short learning curve.

Supports Sony VTR protocolThe MAV-777 can be controlled from a variety of controldevices via RS-422A, which means you can keep usingSony control devices such as Sony BVE Series editors andother compatible controllers. This makes it easier tointegrate the MAV-777 into existing linear editing systems toprocess non-linear editing. In addition, the MAV-777supports Sony Disk Protocol. Existing third partymanufacturers controllers for the MAV-555 are compatiblewith the MAV-777.
Smooth scene search for editing efficiencyWith the familiar and convenient VTR-like scene searchcapability, the MAV-777 can accurately and quickly searchaudio and video during editing with excellent response: Jog1.0 times with DJS (Digital Jog Sound), Var. 1.0 times, shuttle 500 times. In addition, in shuttle mode, it provideswhole frames of images at up to four times normal speed.
Real time audio and video editing with effectsA/V Split Editing Independently by Channels, Audio CrossFades, Slide, Swap, Mix Down, Voice Over, and A/V LevelControls are all available at real time to the user. The MAV-777 provides the following effects for A/B roll editingusing an internal mix bus and two playback ports: Dissolve,Wipe, and Audio Crossfade for smooth sound transition inaudio editing. Insert Editing and Non-linear Editing are alsoincluded.
Ethernet file directory browsing File Searching, Remote Control, and Self-diagnosis/LogExtraction/Set up are controllable through a standard PCwith dedicated file browser software installed over anEthernet computer network.
High reliabilityThe MAV-777 is designed with RAID technology, mirroredfile list data, on-line data rebuild, and a shock-resistantdesign, which enables it to be used in a wide range ofdemanding environments from the studio to OB operations.
