Marathon Cinema Movie Theater
The Marathon Cinema, established in 1996, is the only movie theater located in the Middle Keys. It is nearly 50miles to other cinemas in Monroe County. First-run movies are shown daily from the quaint 100-seat theater whereguests can sit at a table and enjoy food, beer and wine, or be seated in more traditional theater seating.Marathon Cinema is a non-profit entity and is a part of the Marathon Community Theatre playhouse group. A longhistory of operation generated by locals has contributed to our success over the years, since it is run by neighbors
and friends in the community.“Marathon Cinema is a place for small-town social interaction,” said cinema manager Sam Nekhaila. “Being able to go to the movies and sit at tableswith friends to enjoy food and drinks creates a sense of a close-knit community where people enjoy spending time with others doing something fun.”Location: 5101 Overseas Highway, MarathonPhone: 305-743-0288 • Website: marathoncinema.com

Taking Care of BusinessAs always it is our honor and privilege to serve your business. After all, we exist because of you, our local businesses and your staff. Weall have heard of the quote from JFK's 1963 speech, “a rising tide lifts all boats.” Your Marathon Chamber Board of Directors trulybelieves this, as do I. Which is why from time to time, as needed, your Board takes positions on issues within our City, County, and State
that we feel will impact your business, whether positively or negatively, and whether such an issue will have an intended or unintended consequence. We are here to stand up and speak on yourbehalf to ensure the tide rises for us all.
Your Board recently did this at a recent Marathon City Council meeting, opposing a proposed resolution that effectively would have resulted in responsible growth being restricted in Marathon, and would also potentially stymie additional workforce housing from coming online in the near future. At a time where our City needs to leverage whatever assets we have to encourage afford-able housing growth/developments; it is crucial that our City utilize such assets and means to grow our affordable/workforce housing stock. This was why your Board of Directors took such aposition on this resolution; and we were pleased to see our City Council agree with our sentiments/position. Once again, a rising tide lifts all boats, and in this case businesses.
Another way your Marathon Chamber and Board aim to raise our businesses abilities and success is via education and promotion. Your Board continues to push the envelope and budget to dothis; something I am very proud to be a part of no doubt. Currently we are accepting applications for our annual Continuing Education Scholarships, where the Chamber Board of Directors willaward up to five (5), $1,000.00 scholarships to chamber-members who wish to further their skills, abilities, and education; which in turn will allow their business to further improve and thrive.Applications went out about a month ago and are due May 6th (see application inside newsletter). Also, our 2016 Business Beautification Grant applications recently went out; once again yourMarathon Chamber Board will award up to ten (10), $2,000.00 matching grants to help business-members improve the visual appearance of their buildings/facilities.
We are proud to offer these two great programs to you, our valued business-member. By improving business-members abilities through education, and by improving the appearance of our busi-nesses; your Marathon Chamber aims to raise the tide so all our businesses can be lifted to new heights!
Have a great May everyone; please be sure to contact us for any business assistance, needs, and any advice/help you may need. Our doors are always open and no request is out of bounds.
Most Respectfully,
