PENTECOST TANSFORMING POWER

Fr. Jorge A. Román Pentecost was the feast in which the Jews celebrated the generosity of God that allowed them to reap what they had planted. This celebration took place 50 days after Easter. Then they gave the sense to remember that just 50 days after leaving Egypt, God gave Moses the tablets of the law; therefore, this party had vital importance that made the Jews scatter around the World, that day gather in Jerusalem for the celebration. However, this occasion would be something extraordinary that would give a new twist to the story of humanity. The Jews who had made the pilgrimage to Jerusalem for the feast, heard a loud thunder and gathered near the site of the tomb of King David, where the Upper Room where the Apostles were gathered when they received the Holy Spirit as tongues of fire that fell upon their heads. Then they saw the Apostles speaking out in such a way about the glory of God, that each of the pilgrims could understand in their language of origin. What strange power made the quarrelsome and disrespectful boy become a gentleman, or makes someone without talent become a great poet? It is the same power or force that makes ignorant fishermen become wise and those who were formerly cowards become brave men who do not fear suffering, caning, jail or even death in martyrdom for the Gospel. It is LOVE. It is the love that comes from God the Father and God the Son. It is the Spirit who creates and transforms. That makes it possible to achieve what love was lost at Babel by pride as to join in the project of reaching heaven by themselves resulted, as a consequence, to misunderstand one another. , At the Pentecost, however, the miracle that people from different nations can understand in their own language, the message of the Gospel, that with great enthusiasm and wisdom is communicated to them by the newborn Church. This same Holy Spirit that that fell upon the Apostles, transforming them, we all receive during Baptism, when the priest places his hand on our head after anointing us with the oil of catechumens and we are converted as a Temple of the Holy Spirit. Then in the Confirmation, the Bishop anoints us with Chrism and Holy Spirit, he grants us his gifts to communicate in different ways the Divine Love we have received. Let the Spirit of Divine Love communicate through our actions, being tolerant, generous and kind to all so that God will manifest.

Pbro. Jorge A. Román Pentecostés era la fiesta en la que los Judíos celebraban la generosidad de Dios que les permitía cosechar lo que habían plantado. Este festejo tenía lugar 50 días después de la Pascua. Luego se le dio el sentido de recordar que precisamente, 50 días después de haber salido de Egipto, Dios le entregó a Moisés las tablas de la ley, por eso, esta Fiesta tenía importancia trascendental que hacía que los Judíos dispersos por el Mundo, ese día se reunieran en Jerusalén para la celebración. Sin embargo, en esa ocasión sería algo extraordinario que daría un nuevo giro a la historia de la humanidad Los Judíos que habían peregrinado

a Jerusalén para esa fiesta, escucharon un gran trueno y se congregaron cerca del lugar de la tumba del Rey David, donde se encuentra el Cenáculo en el que los Apóstoles estaban reunidos cuando recibieron al Espíritu Santo en forma de lenguas de fuego que se posó sobre sus cabezas. Luego vieron salir a los Apóstoles hablando de tal manera sobre la Gloria de Dios, que cada uno de los peregrinos podía entenderlos en su idioma de origen ¿Qué extraño poder hace que el muchacho más pendenciero e irrespetuoso se transforme en un caballero, o hace que alguien sin talento se convierta en un gran poeta? Es el mismo poder o fuerza que hace que unos ignorantes pescadores, se conviertan en sabios y que los que antes eran cobardes, se conviertan en hombres valientes que no temen sufrir flagelación, cárcel y hasta morir en el martirio por causa del Evangelio. Es el AMOR. Es ese amor que surge de Dios Padre y de Dios Hijo. Es el Espíritu que crea y transforma. Que hace posible que se logre por amor lo que en Babel se perdió por la soberbia ya que al unirse en el proyecto de alcanzar el Cielo por si mismos trajo como consecuencia que terminaran por no entenderse los unos con los otros, en Pentecostés, en cambio, se da el milagro de que gente de diversas naciones, pueda entender en su propio idioma, el mensaje del Evangelio que con gran entusiasmo y sabiduría les es comunicado por la Iglesia recién nacida. Este mismo Espíritu Santo, que se posó sobre los Apóstoles transformándolos, se nos sigue dando a cada uno en el Bautismo, cuando el Sacerdote nos unge con el Oleo de los Catecúmenos y quedamos convertidos en Templo del Espíritu Santo. Luego, en la Confirmación, el Obispo nos unge con el Santo Crisma y el Espíritu Santo, nos concede sus dones para que comuniquemos de diversas maneras el Amor Divino que hemos recibido. Dejemos que ese Espíritu de Amor Divino se comunique a través de nuestras acciones, siendo tolerantes, generosos y benévolos con todos, para que sea Dios el que se

Diocese of Stockton Designated Pilgrimage Site for the Year of Mercy Jesus is the Door! T h e Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy (also called the Year of Mercy) is a special, holy year of remission of sins and universal pardon, in this occasion focusing particularly on God's forgiveness and mercy. We are so blessed that our Bishop Stephen Blaire, by the authority given to him by the Pope, has designated a Door of Mercy to be opened at three locations: The Cathedral of the Annunciation ( Stockton) St. Stanislaus (Modesto) St. Patrick’s (Sonora) A holy door, or porta sancta, has been used since the fifteenth century as a ritual expression of conversion. Pilgrims and penitents pass through it as a gesture of leaving the past behind and crossing the threshold from sin to grace, from slavery to freedom, from darkness to light. Often these rituals are associated with prayer, pilgrimage, confession, and indulgences. But the door finds meaning only when the believer associates the door with Christ. In the words of Pope Francis, “There is only one way that opens wide the entrance into the life of communion with God: this is Jesus, the one and absolute way to salvation. Peregrinaje Del Año De La Misericordia. Jesús es la Puerta! El Jubileo Extraordinario de la Misericordia es un año especial para la remisión de los pecados y el perdón universal, en esta ocasión enfocándose particularmente en el Perdón de Dios y su Misericordia. Somos bendecidos de que nuestro Obispo Stephen Blaire, por autoridad recibida del Papa, ha designado una Puerta de Misericordia para ser abierta en tres locaciones: La Catedral de la Anunciación (Stockton) San Estanislao (Modesto).

San Patricio (Sonora). Una Puerta Santa, o porta sancta, ha sido usada desde el Siglo Quince como ritual de expresión de conversión. Peregrinos y penitentes pasan a través de ella como gesto de dejar atrás el pasado y cruzar del pecado a la gracia, de la esclavitud a la libertad, de la oscuridad a la luz. Frecuentemente estos ritos son asociados con oración, peregrinaje, confesión e indulgencias. Pero la Puerta tiene verdadero significado sólo cuando el creyente asocia la puerta con Cristo. En las palabras del Papa Francisco, ¨Sólo hay un camino que abre la entrada a la vida de comunión con Dios: éste es Jesús, el único y absoluto camino de salvación. Sólo a El se aplican en plenitud las palabras del salmista: ¨Esta es la Puerta del Señor por la que los justos pueden entrar. (Sal. 118, 20)¨

Por favor ofrece un lugar en tu auto para llevar a quien no tenga transportación.

SEGUNDA COLLECTA.- Caridades Católicas provee apoyo y

servicios sociales a los pobres y vulnerables, independientemente de su edad, raza o

religión. La agencia tiene como objetivo proporcionar servicios y apoyo para las

necesidades locales guiados por los principios de la doctrina social católica que hace

hincapié en la dignidad de cada persona humana

and social services to the poor and vulnerable regardless of age, race or religion. The agency

aims to provide services and advocacy for local needs guided by the principles of Catholic

Social Teaching which emphasizes the dignity

of every human person.

Every Tuesday at 5 pm at St. Joseph's

Church in the classroom. Come take a closer, deeper look at our Catholic Safe. The Main

focus will be on the Eucharist. Bring Bible, if one is available to you, an open heart, and a mind

safe seeking environment.

SACREMENTAL RETREAT.-

All priests from the Diocese will be attending a retreat from the 9th to 13th of
