Sacrament of Reconciliation

We have scheduled various times through the month of May for the celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Please observe the following procedures and guidelines.

• During this time, Reconciliation will be offered by appointment only. You may register for a specific date and time on our website at www.annunciationorlando.org/rsvp. Please call our Parish Office if you need help setting an appointment. We ask that you register for only one appointment during this first month.

• The schedule has been structured for a maximum of ten minutes per confession to allow for as many participants as possible. Please respect this limit.

• Prior to arrival, please review the Examination of Conscience and How to Make a Good Confession materials on our website Reconciliation page. We will not have any handouts available at Church.

• As a reminder, celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation is different from “spiritual direction.” Spiritual direction includes offering advice and counsel to an individual in a non-

sacramental setting. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is not where this type of interaction is occurs. However, it is a celebration of God’s mercy and forgiveness that sacramentally restores us to the right relationship with God and one another in Christ Jesus.

• We strongly encourage you to wear a mask during your visit and to practice proper hygiene such as the sanitizing of hands before you enter the Church.

• Confessions will take place in specified areas within the Church, will be face to face only and will respect the guidelines of social distancing.

• Designated doors will be used for entering at the back of the Church. Please look for the signs directing you as you approach the Church building. When you enter the Church you will be greeted by staff to confirm your appointment.

• Socially distant seating will be available in a designated area to wait for the next available Priest. We cannot accommodate specific priest requests at this time.

• You are welcome to be seated in the Church for private prayer after your Confession as long as the building is open.

On Monday, May 18th we will resume the public celebration of daily Mass in the Church at 7am and 12:15pm, Monday - Friday and 8am on Saturday.

• We realize that people will be at various stages in their readiness to return to church. If you are part of a vulnerable population or exhibiting any symptoms of sickness, stay at home. Please know that we will continue to live-stream our Masses and prayer opportunities for the foreseeable future to offer stay at home alternatives.

• The Church will continue to be open for individual prayer and for the Sacrament of Reconciliation at set times in the morning, afternoon and evening. Reconciliation will continue to be by appointment only. Please refer to our website for the schedules. The chapels will not be open during this time.

• It is strongly encouraged to wear a mask during your attendance at church and to practice proper hygiene such as the sanitizing of hands before you enter.

• Designated doors will be used for entering at the back of the church. Please look for the directional signs as you approach the church building.

• Ushers will assist in the seating process prior to Mass and in guiding for the Communion line. We ask that you please follow their directions, as it will be different from what you normally experience.

• In following the health guidelines, the Holy Water fonts and the Baptismal Font will not be used.

• We have identified the pews available for use and installed blue tape marking 6 feet increments to help you gauge for social distancing. Households may sit together keeping six feet in distance from the next people in the pew.

• Worship aids and hymnals will not be available due to the current restrictions. Use of your mobile device in silent mode is suggested to access on-line worship aids.

• At the Sign of Peace, please acknowledge those around you with a wave or verbal greeting only.

• Holy Communion will be distr ibuted only in the form of the Sacred Host after the Priest has given the final blessing. Out of charity and concern for others, Communion should be received only in the hand. - Six feet increments have been marked on the main aisles to guide social distancing when forming a single line for Holy Communion. - When you have received communion in the hand, please step to the side, move your mask and consume the host.

• Staff will be implementing cleaning procedures throughout the day to keep surfaces disinfected.

• During this time, please do not gather in groups or socialize on the property.

• We all have a responsibility to do what we can to ensure a healthy environment so that people feel comfortable returning to church. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Thank you for your generosity and for a very successful Food Drive last weekend. See photos below from our drive up, drop-off on Saturday and our filled pantry shelves. Our Virtual Market was a big success also with $16,363 in online donations (as of May 13th). Your generosity will reach out into the community through our partner schools and through our St. Vincent DePaul Society.

I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me, because I live and you will live. John 14:18-19

Reflections on the Gospel May 17th, 2020

Sixth Sunday of Easter

We hope for many things: passing an exam, finding our true love, securing sustainable work, or surviving an illness. We often seek to have God be a part of what we hope for and desire, almost trying to convince Him that our agenda is what is ultimately important. While our particular hopes may appear to be what needs to be achieved in order for us to be happy, they really are not. Our lesser, more personal hopes can distract us from true hope.

When God became a human being, a powerful message was sent: all that is authentically human is found in the divine. As the human Jesus lived and died in order to show us that he truly is the universal Christ, we have to keep our sight focused on our eternal truth and destiny and who we truly are. We have to be careful when we allow our earthly concerns to distract us. True hope is found when we place our trust in Christ’s promises and don’t rely on our own strength. True hope focuses on striving toward the fulfillment of God’s promises and not simply on achieving what we think we need in this life. Hope always travels with two friends — faith and love. In this trio of virtues, we find the very presence of God born in every human being. These are God’s greatest gifts, and they lead us to the fullness of His presence.

As with faith and love, we cannot see hope with just our human eyes. We don’t carry this virtue within us to use solely for our own personal agenda. Hope is not something that simply comes with the human package. As with faith and love, hope is a gift that is given to us to draw us closer to our eternal truth. Faith, hope, and love are signs that there is something far greater going on in us and something greater to persevere in obtaining. The true divine gift of hope is what will endure any hardship we encounter, especially those that will come from authentically living the Gospel. With all that is happening in our lives, in our church, and in our world, what is the reason for our hope? Ask God for the fortitude to see His eternal gift as the reason we get up in the morning and do the things we do.
