The winner will be announced till 15th April 2009. Students are required to submit a soft copy of their designs at [email protected].
The basic aim of this contest is to give a chance to the students to compete at a contest other than a technical one and to bring forth the ar‐tistic side of our engineers. The creative minds of the university have taken up this challenge & are responding enthusiastically to the con‐test.
The judge for the competition is Mr. Mekaal Arshad. Mr. Meekal Arshad has done his Bachelors from NCA, Lahore and is currently doing Masters in Architecture from Korea.
In short, WIE‐NED has made a niche for itself in a very small period of time by making its pres‐ence felt on the campus.
Student/WIE/Gold Congress (Faisalabad) While awaiting approval of the petition, WIE NED attended the Pakistan Student/WIE/Gold Congress held at Faisalabad on August 17‐18, 2008. This was an opportunity for members of WIE NED to interact with other WIE student branch affinity groups from Lahore and Fais‐alabad, and provided for some exposure to WIE activities in Pakistan.
Seminar on Change Management
On Saturday, August 23, 2008, WIE invited a guest speaker, Mr. Masood Jan Allawala from Navitus, a firm specializing in organizational development, training and consultancy. The logic behind this was seminar was simple:
“In movement there is life, and in change
there is power.” ~ Alan Cohen.
It’s true that change is an integral part of our lives; if there were no change, there would be no growth. As engineers, a major aspect of what we study is how change affects our reasoning and logic. Yet, it is strange how we are scared of embracing change in our daily lives, in our rou‐tine work. Anything that does not coincide with the monotony of our routine makes us uncom‐fortable.
The speaker took the participants through a brief definition of change and how it affects us, the process of managing change, strategies to manage change and how by managing change, we can lead change.
Karachi Section Student Congress (KSSC)
There were many other activities that the WIE Student Branch Affinity Group of NED UET par‐ticipated actively in including the Karachi Sec‐tion Student Congress.
The ex‐Chair of WIE NED, Hira Wajahat Malik, briefed other participants regarding WIE, its mission, vision and potential activities. Further, potential activities for WIE were discussed and most importantly, how other IEEE branches could get involved in WIE.

IEEEIIEE STUDENT BRANCH Ten years ago, on June 15, 1999, the founda‐tion of IEEE‐IIEE Student Branch was laid by a group of students in an effort to establish an active student body which can contribute towards the development of Industrial Electronics technology. To do more with fewer resources was indeed a great challenge but the team with its innovative ideas and timely assistance from Mr. Ashab Mirza, our Branch Councilor, was successful in consti‐tuting the Student Branch along with a group of students including Chairman Yasir Noor Memon(7th batch), Vice Chairman Kamran Waheed (8th batch), Secretary Adeel Nafis (10th batch), Treasurer Farhan Baig (10th batch).
IIEE‐IEEE Student Branch was the only sec‐ond IEEE student branch to be founded in the town, NED‐UET Student Branch being the first IEEE Student Branch to be formed in Ka‐rachi. At that time, there were around fifty student members and a full member in fac‐ulty (Mr. Ashab Mirza, Associate Professor & Chief Coordinator), who is also the IEEE Stu‐dent Branch Counselor at IIEE.
Since its inception, the Branch has proved to be one of the most active Student Branches in Pakistan. The IIEE‐IEEE Student Branch regularly arranges technical activities for the members that are focused on advancing their know‐how and general technical stand‐ing as electronic engineers. Keeping in view the age of our fledgling branch, our achieve‐ments have been enormous. Since its inaugu‐ration in 1999, IIEE‐IEEE has taken giant leaps in these few years.
Each year we make our presence felt by ar‐ranging a Country level Student Conference "e‐ Indus", a technical seminar in which stu‐dents from many Engineering Universities come up with their expertise by displaying their projects on a variety of subjects. More than 300 Professionals, Entrepreneurs and In‐dustrialists attend this conference.
The key achievements of IIEE student branch are as follows:

EIndus (Annual Event of IEEEIIEE
Student Branch) Success Story
IEEE Student Branch at Institute of Industrial Electronics Engineering (IIEE) is regularly or‐ganizing its annual student paper seminar and project exhibition “e‐Indus” since year 2000. There are number of student branches at dif‐ferent institutions of the city which are work‐ing under IEEE Karachi Section, however, IEEE‐IIEE student branch is one of the oldest and active student branches of the city. This event of IEEE‐IIEE student branch has become an annual event for the IEEE student members of the city. IEEE‐IIEE student branch has the honor to organize this event for consecutive 10 years. This year the branch will be organiz‐ing 10th event of its kind. The first event of this series was held in 2000, although it was not named as e‐Indus that time but it was still act as the foundation to the suc‐cessful e‐Indus held each year under the ban‐ner of IEEE‐IIEE student branch. In year 2001, second event of the series was held. The event was graced by Dr.Anwarul Haq, Chairman PCSIR and Engr. Abul Kalam, VC NED University along with others. In year 2002, as awaited the event was sched‐uled and held successfully on Saturday Febru‐ary 16, 2002 at the Auditorium of the Institute of Industrial Electronics Engineering, Karachi. “A Vision of Future Pakistan”, this was the theme for the Student Paper Conference and Projects’ Exhibition “e‐Indus 2002”, which was made all the more auspicious by the presence of Chief Guest Dr. Syed Irfan Hyder, Head of E‐
Commerce Working Group, MoST, Key Note Speaker, Mr. Sameer Hoodbhoy, CEO Data Com‐munication and Control, Mr. Syed Sadiq Ali Rizvi, Principal IIEE, Mr. Shahid Suleman Jan, Chairman IEEE Karachi Section as well as Pro‐fessor Ashab Mirza, Councilor IIEE‐IEEE Stu‐dent Branch. This was for the first time that any such activity at Karachi City level was arranged by the IEEE Student Branch at IIEE. However, now it has been decided to include this conference in the IIEE‐IEEE Student Branch Annual Program and from this year 2002, this conference has be‐come a regular feature of the annual program of the IIEE‐IEEE Student Branch. IIEE‐IEEE Stu‐dent Branch is regularly organizing this event at the local event since 1999. In 2002, Student Branch decided to enhance stature of event by inviting other engineering institutions and stu‐dent branches from all over the country. As its result this event was ready to be comparable with any IEEE student event organized any‐where in the world. Another noteworthy fact about this IEEE Student Paper Region that only a single Student Branch was arranging such an attractive and multi‐perspective event at this level. The organizers received a total of 31 entries for the project paper presentation, out of which 12 papers, 4 from IIEE and 8 from outside, were selected for final event day presentation. The selected papers were from SSUET, PNEC‐NUST, IIEE, HIIT and NEDUET. For Projects’ Exhibi‐tion, 21 projects were selected by the Technical Committee for final event day display in the ex‐hibition. The selected projects were from IIEE,
