1. Throughout the world there are more than 153,000,000 orphans, defined as a

child who has lost one or both parents. This is more children than the entire

population of the country of Russia. Color Russia green.

2. Africa has more orphans than any other continent in the world. There are

59,000,000 orphans in Africa; over 53,000,000 of them are in Sub-Sahara Africa.

Color Africa red. Draw a line showing the Sub-Sahara border.

3. Families in the United States adopt more children from China than from any

other country. 2,587 children were adopted from China in 2011. Color China

yellow.

As big as the orphan problem seems in our world, it’s important to keep two things in mind:

1 The problem isn't too big for God who has promised to be the father to the

fatherless.

2 God has already created the solution to the

orphan crisis:: it takes just one caring adult to

make a life-long difference in the life an orphan!

How are you doing with your memory

verse this month? Here are some ways

to help you learn it and never forget it!

Write your verse on a small piece of paper

and keep it in your pocket. Look at it often

and practice saying it.

Say your verse in your head as you brush

your teeth!

Find a Bible Buddy and learn the verse

together! Take turns saying the verse,

repeating it after one another and then try

to say it from memory with your friend

helping if needed.

Say your verse over and over (quietly!)

when it’s bedtime.

Ask God to help you hide this verse in your

heart. He will be faithful to help you!

Each issue of Agape Rafiki Activity Pages features an

Agape Rafiki

Challenge!

The challenges are designed to give you practical ways of helping the

poor, specifically the street boys that Agape serves in Kenya. Your faith

can stretch all the way to Africa! Are you ready to put your faith into

action? Are you ready to serve the poor like God commands us to? Then

take the challenge! In order to make it all the way to the end of the Rafiki

Path on your 2012 achievement chart, you’ll need to complete at least two

of the challenges in the coming months! Are you ready for this month’s

challenge?

The boys at Agape come off the streets wearing clothing that usually looks

worse than the rags you use in your home. The clothes are filthy and full of

holes and usually they don’t fit at all. Agape spends a lot of money buying

clothing for our boys and you can help! This month’s challenge is to collect

used soccer shorts and shirts and send them to us! Soccer clothes hold up

well to the boy’s hand washing and don’t show dirt. They are perfect for

Africa! Don’t worry! We have an office is the USA, so you don’t have to

send them all the way to Kenya; they’ll come to Kenya in one of our

missionary’s suitcases.

After getting your parents’ permission, ask

everyone you know to give you their used soccer

uniforms. Set a goal and keep asking until you reach it!

Try and collect at least as many pieces as you are years old. Are you six?

Send us six pairs of shorts! Are you 12? We’ll thank you very much for

sending us a dozen pieces of clothing! Ready? Set? Go! When you’ve

collected your shorts call our office at 888.572.9255 for shipping

instructions! Thank you for taking the Agape Rafiki Challenge!

Try and

Picture it!

Sometimes when we hear really big numbers like 17,800,000 children have no

parents, or 153,000,000 children have lost one or both parents, or over 100,000

foster children in the US are waiting to be adopted, it can be hard to imagine how

many children we’re actually talking about.

This is a picture of Candlestick Park, home of the

San Francisco 49ers. When the stadium is full, it

can hold over 70,000 fans. It’s a HUGE crowd.

You would need 253 Candlestick Parks to hold all

of the double orphans in the world. You would need 2,179 Candlestick Parks to

hold all of the children who have lost one or both parents . It’s a HUGE problem;

and God wants us to respond. Pray and ask God to show you how you can help!

Most of the street kids that Agape

rescues speak three, or even four,

different languages. Can you imagine

knowing four ways to say each

word that you know? Learn Some

Kenyan Words! How Kenyan Kids

Say “Friend”

English: Friend

Kiswahili (kis SWA hi li):

Rafiki (rah FEE kee)

Luo (loo-WO): Osiep (O see ep)

Luhya (LOO-yah): Mulina (MU lee na)

Agape Children’s Ministry brings the hope of Jesus to street children in Kenya. We rescue

children from the dangers of life on the streets, introduce them to the redeeming love of Jesus,

rehabilitate them through counseling and education, and whenever possible, reintegrate them

back to their family and community. The Agape Rafiki Activity Pages are a tool to help parents

teach their children about God’s call to serve the poor. We pray they are a blessing to your family.

Prayer Points Pray for orphans. The number of

orphans seems overwhelming but

God is able to care for them,

protect them, and provide families

for them.

Pray for families that are trying to adopt. Pray

that God would be preparing both the child and

their new family for the changes ahead.

Pray for children in U.S. foster care system. Over

107,000 foster children are waiting to be adopted.

Pray for children who can’t be adopted. In some

countries, like Kenya where Agape works, it is very

difficult for children to be adopted. Other times,

children are too old or too ill to be adopted. Pray

for the organizations that are lovingly caring for

children without families. Thank the Lord that He

promises to be a father to the fatherless.
