No, the Church was founded by Jesus Christ and birthed by God’s Holy Spirit! Also, the church is not a cold uncaring profit driven place. Instead the church, at its best, is like a loving family. In a loving family, each member cares for one another and that is what we are here at Rainbow City First UMC. I have seen each of you care for one another with various acts of kindness since arriving here two years ago. Some Sundays, we have several missing, the next Sunday that group may be here and another group may be missing. So, I am asking everyone who calls RBCFUMC their church home to be here on the third Sunday, May 19, 2019 for either service. I am calling it “Family Gathering Sunday.” As part of that day, we will pay a special tribute to the ladies of the quilting ministry that operated here for years. These ladies made and sold numerous quilts. The monies generated from the hard work of these ladies helped to pay for various things around the church that otherwise may have been left undone. Also, that will be the day for our third Sunday Fellowship Meal. Please remember to bring your favorite dish to share. Around 1pm our good friend Russell Shaneyfelt and his family will be here to sing as they did this past fall. Russell is one of our guards that works for the Sheriff’s department. The Elmo’s House Outreach

As most of you know, Elmo’s house is where men can go for 6-12 months to have a

chance to restart their lives. Our church has been reaching out to them. On the second

Thursday of each month we meet in the Fellowship Hall for fun, games and fellowship

with the guys from Elmo’s house. Come join us Thursday, May 9th at 5:30 p.m.. We also

need volunteers to help in the kitchen and folks to talk, visit and play games with our

guests.

Welcome Nellie Salter Nellie Salter came to us from Altoona UMC. Nellie was born and reared in Birmingham, AL. When Ralph Salter, Sr. and Nellie married they decided their “blended family” with eight children was enough. She graduated from Birmingham Southern and stayed on as Director of Records for 13 years, then Ralph and her moved to Georgia when GE promoted him to Regional Distri-bution Director.

While serving as Children’s Librarian at the Regional Library in Canton, Nellie earned her Master’s Degree at Emory University. She served as a media specialist at Ball Ground Elementary until they both retired and moved back to Blountsville. Ralph and Nellie continued to keep the Methodist Church and it’s ministries the center of family activities and service. After Ralph died 15 years ago, Nellie moved to Altoona near some of their children. Nellie moved to Regency Pointe in February 2019 and has felt blessed by the Bible teachings of Betty Grace Heaton and her new friends. Doris Payne lives next door to Nellie and brought her here to worship

Bellevue UMC Selling Barbeque Plates to Raise Funds Pastor Dee’s home church is selling BBQ plates with meat, beans, cole slaw and a roll for $7.00 The date for this BBQ is Thursday May 9th. If we can get over 10 orders, they will deliver them to our church. If you are interested, please make your check out to Bellevue UMC and get the check to Pastor Dee.

Concerning the Clothes Closet. We will start again taking clothes on Monday, May 13. I know folks are anxious to clean out their closets, but additional time is needed to complete our repairs. We have posted a note on the side door but if you are asked about our clothes closet, please pass this information along to them.

Welcome New Member!

Thank you for your gift! Dear RBCFUMC, The Children’s Home makes a real difference in the lives of our children. It has helped transform the lives of thousands of hurting children since 1890. Many of our alumni are now successful adults who are giving back to their communities that gave to them. The need continues as there are thousands of other children who require our help. By sup-porting UMC Children’s Home, YOU made a difference. Dr. K. Blake Horne Rebecca Morris President and CEO VP of External Affairs
