Mother’s Day—Once a mom, always a mom is how I describe my Mother. She’s well into her
80’s and is in good health. Her sons have been adults for decades now and are making their way
in life. But, her heart has never changed. Following the example of Our Lady, she has and
continues to ponder the lives of her sons in her heart, loving and praying for them with a
mother’s heart. That is what I celebrate this Mother’s Day, the maternal heart of my mom, who
treasures first God and then her children there. I am thankful to be a part of her heart. Happy
Mother’s Day to all of our moms!
Kate Fejfer—has served our parish for almost three years as a pastoral associate. She will be leaving her position at
the end of the month. I am grateful for the wonderful ministry Kate has offered the parish while she has been a part of
the staff and thank her for the love and dedication to God and to her work. We wish Kate well in her new endeavors.

Year of Mercy Jubilee
“For there are three ways of
performing an act of mercy: the
merciful word, by forgiving and
by comforting; secondly, if you
can offer no word, then pray -
that too is mercy; and thirdly,
deeds of mercy. And when the
Last Day comes, we shall be
judged from this, and on this
basis we shall receive the eternal
verdict.”

Corporal Work of Mercy: Visit the Sick
Those who are sick are often forgotten or avoided. In
spite of their illness, these individuals still have much to
offer to those who take the time to visit and comfort
them.
• Give blood
• Spend time volunteering at a nursing home – Get
creative and make use of your talents (e.g. sing,
read, paint, call Bingo, etc.).
• Take time on a Saturday to stop and visit with an
elderly neighbor.
• Offer to assist caregivers of chronically sick family
members on a one-time or periodic basis. Give
caregivers time off from their caregiving
responsibilities so they can rest, complete personal
chores, or enjoy a relaxing break.
• Next time you make a meal that can be easily frozen,
make a double batch and give it to a family in your
parish who has a sick loved one.
