Mission Statement:

Our mission is to enhance the growth and development of business and the quality of life in our community,

by helping to keep our membership informed, connected, and prosperous.

Chairmans Corner“Embrace the Opportunities”

So a Woman walked into THAT BAR…Well I did but before I did I need to start at the beginning… It was a beautiful chilly Saturday morning. Matt and I donned our walking shoes and headed out the door, down “heartbreak hill”, 1.5 miles into town. A diversion into the new FRESH N EASY shopping center to check out the new SHERWIN WILLIAMS paint store. We were greeted immediately and by the time we walked out had picked out paint for our guest bathroom to be picked up later (keep in mind we are walking!) and all at a 40% discount! With smiles on our faces we headed down Diablo Road with thoughts of lattes again landed at STARBUCK’S for that caffeine fix. Our destination now was the FARMER’S MARKET but not before a quick stop into COTTAGE JEWEL. Marcia is always stocked full of baubles and bangles that beckon you to try them on. There was a demonstration on how to make compost toilets going on at Cottage Jewel as part of the Spring Fling put on by DDA and Sustainable Danville. I know what you might be thinking BUT in light of the devastation in Japan this is something all of us should want to know.

With Matt tapping his toes (shopping isn’t his idea of fun) we made it to Farmer’s Market to buy fresh asparagus for dinner. Back on Hartz Avenue we crossed over for a poke into RAKESTRAW BOOKS. What a great bookstore and the cool thing is if Michael doesn’t have it they will order it for you and you can pick it up in just a couple of days. We were able to see the “Green” doghouse on display there that was manufactured by GAYLER CONSTRUCTION and is being raffled off to support the Sustainability program being promoted by the Town, the Chamber and DDA.

Time to start thinking of walking home but not before maybe heading back down Pros-pect Avenue to THAT BAR for a quick turkey burger that we highly recommend! We can’t wait to return there for dueling pianos and/or a glass of Rombauer.

With bellies full I popped into CHRISTINA’S FINE CLOTHING to purchase a camisole (aka “cami”). Matt has no idea what that means so he wandered to the chocolate shop. Stephanie has camisoles in a rainbow of colors and at a great price too! Out the door and major right turn as I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the new chocolate dipped caramel shortbread delights sprinkled with sea salt from DANVILLE CHOCOLATES! My ra-tional was since I walked to town and had to walk back then this incredible eatable would burn off by the time I got home! If you haven’t had the sea salt caramels or their “Apple Pie” caramel apples you are certainly missing out on an incredible sweet experience!

By now our sugar rush has us practically running across the street where we ducked into MODA MI. Our very own Martha Levison was there to greet us! She graciously held all our packages for us as we are starting to think about the up hill hike home but not before I eyed a new spring top that was calling my name. Off we went very satisfied thinking about what a great town we live in and how happy we are to be able to experience. Now if only there was a passing taxi to take us back home!

Open Daily for joyful exploration!

Community service has been my solution to the economic challenges of late. As President of Discover Danville, head cheer-leader for Danville’s shop local campaign and now Chamber Board member, I have always volunteered for raffles, Installation and Art Faire committees as well as count-less special projects that create the “link” all of our businesses need to the public.

Most recently I chaired the April Spring Fling of demos, music & parties to cel-ebrate the 25 businesses who implemented at least 25 “best practices” for sustaiabil-ity. Thank you DACOC for joining the DASBC and thank you Kim Lindeberg for reminding our members to “Embrace the Opportunities”.

Now this is my opportunity to promise you GREAT LOOT and GREAT VALUE plus tons of tales found only at Cottage Jewel. Come rekindle your passion for giving timeless gifts from our endless selection of vintage, antique & handmade home goods and personal accessories.

Jerome R. Potozkin, M.D. has moved to 600 San Ramon Valley Blvd. Suite 102, Danville, CA 94526

President’s Remarks:

It is such a pleasure to be back at the Danville Area Chamber of Commerce, having served as the Executive Director about ten years ago. I owe a debt of gratitude to Melony Newman for the success of today’s Chamber. It was very easy to come back and pick up where she left off. A very special thank you to Debra Long, our Office Manager for stepping up and leading this organization in the interim.

I’m older and wiser and have really seen the day to day struggles of a small business owner being married to a restaurant owner. “Surviving the Big One” doesn’t mean an earthquake, rather it means staying in business over these last few tumultuous years. I now know more than ever, the day to day struggles a small business owner faces. We are all leaner and meaner and your Chamber is well aware of that fact.

Our priority is you, the member. I’m here on your behalf and so is our great team of Debra Long, Office Manager; Karen Lochner, Membership Director and Martha Levison, Events Coordinator. Let me know how I or your Chamber can assist you.

Working together with the great Town staff and elected officials, the Discover Danville Association and our members, we WILL continue to make the Danville area the best place to live, work and do business!

RelyLocal San Ramon Danville was set up in March 2011 with the aim of achieving 2 main goals. The first, providing an afford-able and effective advertising incubator for only locally owned businesses - equipping these locally owned businesses with a rich web presence, and effective online business directory, their very own online coupon campaign, interactive customer engage-ment via social media and customer reviews. The second, and I feel, more important goal, is to help local business owners drive a Buy Local campaign in our very own community. These campaigns will be driven by a core team of business owners.Once again, our ideal business clients are LOCALLY OWNED businesses, who would like an affordable but effective online web presence. The man who stops advertising to save money is like the man who stops the clock to save time ~ Thomas JeffersonWe’re ready to help local businesses compete!
