ry A Message From " e Club President Chapel Hill Country Club Members,

Gorgeous weather is here! It’s prime time to enjoy the Chapel Hill Country Cub.

We have a phenomenal line-up of fun events for you to enjoy this time of year. Mother’s Day brunch, the Tradition (June 13-15), the Carolina Classic (June 6-7), the Jamaican Me Crazy pool Party (May 18), Divorce Open (May 23) just to name a few.

! e golf course has not looked better in a long time. ! e greens are healthy and strong. ! anks to all who came out for the divot party. Craig and his team have done a fabulous job getting the course ready for this season. ! ere are many opportunities for you to play golf with other members. Last year, we tried a Tuesday night 9-hole men’s league for the fi rst time. It was a huge success. Join us this year! Men, seniors, ladies, and juniors have many events planed. Drop by the pro shop if you have any questions.

! e tennis courts are fi lled, and CHCC teams are representing us well - both adults and junior teams. We have 50 juniors playing in the spring USTA season. If you see our juniors playing on the weekend, take a seat on the terrace, cheer them on and enjoy watching our talented juniors. ! ere are 14 adults teams playing currently and several battling for fi rst place in local leagues.

We have a new pool manager this year. His name is Jesse Mendes. Please introduce yourself to Jesse. ! e pool will be open on weekends during May weather permitting. ! e pool opens for daily use on Memorial Day weekend. Please remember to sign in yourself and any guests that you bring to the club.

If you’re a social media person, you can fi nd us on Facebook (facebook.com/chapel-hill-country-club/ ) and Twitter (@chapelhillcc1). You’ll get daily updates on menus and events at the club. Social media is a great way to spread word about the club. Also, check out our new website at www.chapelhillcountryclub.com We have made it more graphical and accessible for friends we’ve invited to check out the club.

Speaking of inviting people to the club, our spring membership drive is in full swing. Please invite your colleagues, neighbors and friends to check out the club. After an informative tour, prospective members will be given an opportunity to experience the di" erent aspects of the club. Our best promotional of the year is now - both for the prospective member and the primary referring member. Chapel Hill Country Club is the place to be.

I look forward seeing you on the courts, on the course, or the clubhouse soon.

A Note From the General ManagerI always love spring. ! e course, which has been sleeping, fi nally wakes up. It is especially fun here in North Carolina because it happens so quickly. It seems like the landscape changes from brown to green in a day. As we head into spring, the sta" and I are very excited about the prospect of the new season. Chef is continuing to evolve the menus in the club to o" er better selection and more variety. Most recently, he has introduced a new banquet menu. Our hope is that you will consider your club fi rst when you are thinking of hosting an event. We thank you for the continued support as our sales numbers show increases in all areas of a la carte service. We have focused the last six months on growth in these areas to better serve you and your families.

We are happy to announce the addition of Jesse Mendes to our sta" as Director of Aquatics. Jesse comes to Chapel Hill Country Club with a great record of swimming achievements and a desire for top level service. I am very optimistic that this will be our best pool season ever. ! is week we started swim team sign up and it looks like we will have many new additions to the team. Also, Jesse will be o" ering an adult masters swim program in the mornings along with our adult lap swimming. Information on all the great programs at the pool will be available on Facebook, the website, and at the front desk. I think it is important for you to know that your fellow members have expressed concerns about non-members sneaking into the pool last year. We have promised to focus on this issue early this year so that you have space to enjoy the pool.

Our activities director has done a great job creating new activities for our families and youngest members the latest and largest project has to develop a full summer camp that will start from the week after school is released until one week prior to returning to school. Currently the preschool camps are now on a wait list and the regular camp has a few openings. ! e great thing about the camp program is that you can enroll the kids for the whole summer or just week or so.

Now that we have improved on our family and children’s programs it is time for Leea to begin moving on some initiatives to engage our adult members with some fi tness programs including ZUMBA and Aerobics. Leea has also been very successful with the Broadway series o" ering very good seat with door to door service to and from the club for many of the top shows at DPAC. We are hoping to expand this service to other area venues this year.

Spring is also a very critical time for your club to grow in membership. ! is benefi ts you in many ways, but most of all, membership growth helps us control the cost to you and your family and creates good fi nancial heath for the club that you love. Currently we have about 80 openings and we have a goal of 60 new members this year. ! is is only possible with your support. Please remember to ask your friends and coworkers to consider the benefi ts of joining the club. ! is year’s membership drive has some great referral incentives for you. Please contact me for more information.

Your support in all areas of the club is vital to help us deliver on the many long term goals of the club. With your support and recommendation of potential members, we will continue to develop the club to meet your needs and become the club of the future.

From a tennis prospective, Lindsay and his team have really got things rolling in a big way. It was not too long ago that the club had only four USTA teams. Now our club has 32 USTA teams comprised exclusively of club members. ! is is very telling as to the level of players that we have, and talent and leadership within the tennis sta" . Of course, every level of success has its costs. Our successful growth in the game has had an impact on court availability. ! e sta" and the tennis committee are focusing on this issue and making adjustments to hopefully minimize any negative impact on the overall membership. We are also seeing huge growth in junior tennis. Please stop by the shop and ask Jaime about all the spring and summer opportunities that are available for your kids this year.

Rick is planning many new programs to get our young member excited about the game of golf. Both Rick and Sally will continue to build on the big success last year with programs for women like Link up to Golf, Get Golf Ready and the 6 Hole League. On the men’s side, the MGA is o" to a great start and signups for the Shadow League are under way.

To close, we are very proud of the club, the sta" , and all that the members have done to make Chapel Hill Country Club the powerhouse that it is becoming. If we can do anything to make your club experience better, please feel free to call on me. I will be more than happy to listen and assist. Have a great season!

! ank you you again for all of your support together we will make this club great.

Sincerely,

Don Hunter CCMGeneral Manager, Chapel Hill Country Club

About the House! e people who bring us our food and serve us our wine or mixed drink at the club too often are viewed like o" ensive linemen in football. Nobody notices them until they make a mistake. As best I can tell, however, server slipups are few and dedication to the job high at CHCC, which makes our wait sta" well worth the money we pay them. And how much is that, you may ask? ! e total payroll for service sta" in 2012 was $362,265.26. Part of that total was funded through our dues. But another, even larger part was raised by way of the often misunderstood service charge.

I say misunderstood because some members may believe the 15 percent service charge you have been paying was a tip, returned directly to your server. It wasn’t. It was money added to everyone’s bill to help pay server salaries across the board. CHCC has a no tipping policy, ergo the 15 percent could not be a tip. Even if it sounds like one.

I refer to the 15 percent charge in the past tense because that percentage is now history. It has been replaced by an 18 percent service charge, as approved by the board of directors at its March meeting. ! is keeps us in line with the service reward you might leave at a restaurant in town, which is one way to measure the appropriate level of our service charge. Sounds complicated, but look at it this way. ! e average member will only be paying an increase of $49 per year with the service charge set at 18 percent, rather than 15. Somebody has to pay server salaries and it’s only fair that a large portion of that burden should fall on the members who are actually served, rather than from club-wide dues. Now that I have thoroughly confused you, let me bring you some good news. ! e quarterly food-purchase minimum is still at $200. Not only that, the directors haven’t even considered raising it. Bon appetit. Larry Cheek, House Committee Chairman

Membership News! e Spring Membership Drive is proving to be quite successful, and we would like to reiterate that the club’s health and welfare depends on the assistance of current members. All new members need the sponsorship of two current members in order to join our club. ! e current membership drive incentives make it a great time to join, and don’t forget that current members sponsoring new members earn $300 towards merchandise at the club for their fi rst new sponsored member, and $600 for a second new member!

We hope to soon be the only club in our area with a waiting list for membership. Building our membership body creates an environment in which our club may more readily fl ourish and thrive. We can improve on what we currently have, and work towards adding new programs and facilities. A larger and more diverse club membership provides a community for you and your family to socialize and play with, and we look forward to expanding our club family as we head into summer.

WGA NewsHallelujah warm weather has fi nally arrived! And by the time you are reading this message our fairways and greens should be in full green glory. ! e WGA’s opening day on April 2nd was a bit wet but our annual event with the Nifty Niners on April 9th where we invite the SMGA was an absolutely perfect Carolina spring day and a great turnout. It felt so good to come out of hibernation and see everyone! Our thanks to Kathleen Lessard and Susan Weidener for converting Isaac’s Porch into a lovely spring banquet with an outstanding lunch bu" et complete with homemade cookies and ice cream sundaes!

Upcoming events include our very popular women’s member-guest event, ! e Carolina Classic on June 6-7. And how fi tting that this event – in its lucky 7th year – will be a Las Vegas theme. Organizer Suzanne Kozel tells me this event sold out quickly and she now has a waiting list so if you would like to join the fun please let her know in case there are unexpected cancellations. In addition to the two-day event, there will be a wine-tasting at the Hope Valley Bottle Shop on Wednesday night June 5th from 6:00-8:30 and the ! ursday night soiree Viva la Classic event will be all glamour and glitz – dress to impress! ! ere will be entertainment, gambling, and of course great food and wine. Both these events are open to all women regardless of whether they are playing in the Classic or even play golf at all (member charge). Contact Suzanne, Shere Stone or Karen Lazarus if you would like to attend either or both events.

Please mark your calendars for two WGA-sponsored clinics in June. ! e fi rst on Wednesday June 19th at 6:00 pm is on bunkers and the second on Saturday, June 22nd, a regular play day, where we “Play With the Pro”. ! is is a terrifi c clinic where Sally Austin rotates through our foursomes coaching us on everything from course management, to rules to playing tips along the way. Everyone tells us they love this clinic! To sign up – as well as for most WGA events and play days – just go to the WGA online sign-up document.

Finally we are pleased to welcome two new members to the WGA, Karen Diamond and Wini Curley. We are 59 members and growing and if you are interested in joining contact our Membership Chair Linda Johnston ([email protected], telephone 919-656-4512). Also, any WGA member who has not yet received a 2013 directory please contact Linda.

! at’s it from the WGA. Hope to see you out there!

Nifty Niners News! e golf portion of our Camaraderie Day and Opening Luncheon was cancelled due to weather. ! anks go to Geraldine King and Joann Mayer who organized the lovely and tasty Opening Luncheon.

Nine brave souls braved gale force winds and ventured out onto the frozen tundra for our fi rst playday on April 4th. Sleet really isn’t conducive to the game of golf. Low net winners were Jann Stiven and Diane Medcalf.

! e NNGA/WGA invite the SMGA was a well attended fun tournament played on a warm sunny day. ! anks go to Kathleen Lessard and Susan Weidener for fi lling up Isaac’s porch with players, decorations and a great bu" et.

Now it appears that spring is fi nally here. ! e winners on Mulligan Day April 11th are as follows: A fl ight had a three way tie, Geraldine King, Joann Mayer and BJ Attwood. Kathleen Lessard won B fl ight and Jann Stiven won C fl ight.

Our next Social Saturday is May 11th at 6:30. Come out to enjoy a beverage and break bread together. Call Alisa to sign up. We will not gather for o# cial Social Saturdays over the summer, but will begin again in either September or October.

We go to Governors Club for a Tri-9 event on May 14th. We need to sign up a week in advance so our information can be sent to Governors Club.

! e June Tri-9 event will be on June 13th at Brier Creek.

! e yearbooks which are fi lled with information about clinics, events, playday formats etc… are located in the proshop on the counter. Every player has a book with their name on it. Pick up your books so you will know what fun things are happening!
