MEAC PURPOSE

We are here to help all young people find their own path to a career. We believe there are many roads to success, so we work to shine a light on the full range of career opportunities, and the many ways to get there. Whether their entry point is straight from high school or from college, we help young people make plans to choose a job with a future, to succeed and to thrive.

HOW WE DO IT

IKIT SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

• Financed by funds from• City of Evanston Youth and Young Adult Division• Youth Job Center (YJC)• Evanston Community Foundation

• 15 Class of 2020 graduates selected and assigned according to career interest

• 9 local employers participated• 12-week duration• 25-30 hours per week• YJC career training every Friday (personal financial literacy , conflict

resolution, resume preparation, etc.)

• Evanston Rebuilding Warehouse – preparation for the trades (4 interns)• Canal Shores Golf Course – ecology, golf course maintenance (2 interns)• Yo-Fresh Cafe – entrepreneurial, inventory management (1 intern)• S&C Electric – manufacturing (2 interns)• Greenwise Landscaping – ecology, customer service (1 intern)• City of Evanston Records – data entry, customer service (1 Intern)• Spice House – manufacturing (2 interns)• Jennifer Edibles – culinary, community service awareness. (1 intern) • CW Market & Ice Parlor- entrepreneurial, team management. (1 Intern)

OUTCOMES

• Employers provided detailed reports on performance of all participants for follow-up.• 10 graduates persisted• 2 graduates offered employment• 8 graduates received completion certificates and

provided help for next steps in their career direction• 3 graduates working with YJC Career Advisor• Student feedback very positive• Employer feedback very positive – Want to participate next

year

WHAT’S NEXT FOR IKIT PROGRAM

• Refine application process• Secure funding for the summer of 2021 - $100,000• 18 Class of 2021 Graduates• $13/hr.• 12 weeks• 25-30 hours per week• YJC Training

• 7 Virtual Career Panels (Students, Parents, Teachers, Others)• Target - Reach 450 Students, Freshmen through Seniors• 4 MEAC Employers

SCHOOLINKSCOLLEGE AND CAREER PREPARATION PLATFORM

• New software platform adopted by ETHS for all students• Starts with an assessment of interests• Helps parents, counselors and teachers support students as they move

through their high school career• Industry partners are a significant element in the platform• 44 MEAC industry members will be invited to be “Industry Partners”• Company purpose, company career pathways for young people,

events (recruitment event, open-house, etc.), job shadowing requests, Q&A.

2020-21 GOALS

• Long-term funding for Career Partnership Manager• Work towards making MEAC’s work sustainable over the long haul• Add MEAC members in under-represented pathways• Arts/Communication• Architecture• IT/Cyber Security

• Develop Long-Term Career Pathway Pipeline Programs • NorthShore Health System• AMITA Health Care• Trades (ERW)
