2016 FIA European Rallycross Championship Sponsorship

proposal

Michael Boak

MB Motorsport are a highly acclaimed rallycross team and automotive

customisation specialists run by front-running rallycross driver Michael

Boak from a base in Jarrow, Tyne and Wear.

The team has experience of running interesting and exotic cars in

circuit racing, rallying, autocross, rallycross and track days.

Engines, transmissions and chassis’ can be built in-house, along with

pre-event preparation. For 2016, Boak is aiming to compete in a two-car

MB Motorsport run Citroen C2 team in the six-round FIA European

Rallycross Championship, a support category to the FIA World

Rallycross Championship – the world’s fastest growing motorsport,

alongside team-mate Phil Chicken, a former BRDA Rallycross

Champion.

In order to do this, Boak needs YOUR support to aid him in achieving his

dream of racing in the full European series, alongside Chicken. The

team has a number of sponsorship opportunities available; from

minimal branding on driver, mechanics, race car and race trucks, to full

unique branding across the whole team, including both cars, drivers

and team equipment.

Please take a few moments of your time to read through the information

in this document about how you could become involved with the team,

and get exposure for your business in one of the most accessible,

exciting forms of sport on the planet - in the media and on television -

through your involvement with Michael Boak and MB Motorsport.

Boak is currently supported by Pug1off, Jabbasport, MB Motorsport

and Padgett Bros AtoZ.

Championship with MB Motorsport

Jarrow born racer Michael Boak graduated from a successful career in autocross racing to

rallycross in 2003, driving an evolution of his autocross specification VW Golf Mk1. He was

immediately successful and raced to podiums in the BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross

Championship.

Realising the need to develop further to compete in the MSA British Rallycross Super

National category, together with his father Frankie, Boak created the first ever space-

framed, front-wheel drive, turbo charged car and debuted the machine at Pembrey, South

Wales in 2004. For the following six years, Boak was a regular front-runner in the category,

racking up countless heat race wins, despite a limited budget.

For the 2010 season, Boak pioneered another innovative concept in the sport, and became

the first driver in rallycross to race a diesel engined car, using his familiar Audi TT as a

proven platform. The potent package was immediately on the ultimate pace in the class and

Boak scored an overall victory at Knockhill, Scotland in 2011.

For 2015, the MB Motorsport team owner sought a new challenge and built a Super1600

specification Citroen C2 to race in the FIA European Rallycross Championship. With

selected appearances in various championships as the Jarrow-based team developed the

car, Boak is now ready to contest the full FIA European Rallycross Championship, which

takes place over six events in Portugal, Great Britain, Sweden, France, Spain and Germany.

Michael Boak and MB Motorsport history

Michael Boak is not unused to defying the odds to achieve success in the action-filled

motorsport discipline that is rallycross.

This year, his goal is to take on the very best front-wheel drive competitors in the world, in the

incredibly competitive Super1600 European Championship category.

“I have put so much of my life into rallycross. The sport is going from strength to strength with the formation of the World Rallycross Championship, and to get to compete at the same events as the likes of three-time World Champion Petter Solberg, American Superstar Ken Block and a range of international stars, is an opportunity I can’t turn down.”

“Super1600 is very competitive but I genuinely believe that even though many of the teams are running works-built cars, we can be competitive and do what we have done throughout my career - exceed expectations. To race and be successful again in the European championship is the goal, and my dream is to become a European Champion”

- Michael Boak, 2016

What is Rallycross?

Rallycross is one of the fastest growing motorsports in the world.

Racing on circuits that are approximately 60% sealed, 40% loose surface, the sport

brings the diversity of rallying together with the action packed races of touring

cars.

The first rallycross event was held in February 1967 and in late 2012, sports

marketing giants IMG took over the running of the FIA European Rallycross

Championship. Just one year later IMG created the FIA World Rallycross

Championship “World RX”, with rounds taking place on four continents. The FIA

European Rallycross Championship also goes from strength to strength, running

alongside World RX at five of the European based rounds. The Super1600 category

runs as one of the main support categories to the World RX championship and in

2015 runs at seven of the championship’s 13 rounds.

The series has attracted star names like 2003 World Rally Champion Petter

Solberg, 1997 Formula One World Champion Jacques Villeneuve, double DTM

Champion Mattias Ekstrom and 2013 British Touring Car Champion Andrew Jordan.

In 2013, nine-time WRC champion Sebastien Loeb contested his home round of the

then European Rallycross series and just missed out on a place in the final, proving

the strength and depth of the rallycross competitors.

Along with star drivers, teams are attracting manufacturer support, with

Volkswagen, Audi, Ford and Peugeot all involved in the World RX series in 2015.

“It’s all the best bits about

motorsport packed into

6 minutes including crashes, the

jumps, going sideways and the

cars are faster than virtually any

other car that looks like a car on

this planet - what’s not to love!”

- TANNER FOUST World RX driver and Top Gear USA

What is Rallycross? – Super1600

Many top name drivers race in rallycross and their star status is equalled by the cars

themselves. The headline Supercars are among the most exciting cars in motorsport, both to

watch and drive. Supercar is the ultimate goal for all rallycross drivers, and the Super1600

category is the perfect place to learn the required skills.

The Super1600 was originally derived from the rally category for manufacturer supported

1600cc front-wheel drive cars with around 230 bhp. Revving to over 10,000 rpm, the

Super1600 cars are some of the best sounding in the sport, and provide close and thrilling

action.

In recent years, Super1600 drivers have gone on to star in Supercar. Former Champion,

Russian Timur Timerzyanov, won two European titles in Supercar before the formation of the

FIA World Rallycross Championship, and since, Norwegian Andreas Bakkerud and Latvian

Reinis Nitiss have both won World RX events in Supercar as graduates of the Super1600

category.

With a new format introduced in 2013 for European and World Championship level, drivers

race through a series of qualifying heats to determine their place in the semi-finals, from

which the top three in each race progress to the final. The winner of the final is declared the

winner of the event. For the 2016 season, the MSA British Rallycross Championship has also

adopted this format, with eight cars rather than the six in Europe, racing in the final.

Heats are run over four laps, while the finals are six laps. Cars start in races of between five

and eight cars, where action is plentiful. Events are attended by up to 75,000 spectators and

shown live on television and livestream in over 160 countries world wide.
