Current 2010-2011 Board Members

McMinnville is a community that makes the welfare and

educational needs of its children a priority. Building on

that tradition, the McMinnville Education Foundation was

established in 1998 to provide support and enrichment

learning experiences for the students of School District

#40. The programs the Foundation supports go beyond the

limited funding options of public school.

The volunteer board of directors of the Foundation is com-prised of community-minded individuals including parents, educators, and business leaders.

Our mission is to expand the range of educational opportunities available to students in the District and to encourage excellence, innovation, and creativity in our educational system.

The founding

directors contributed funds to establish the endowment; additional com-munity donations and support have boost-

ed the endowment to about $250,000. The Foundation is well on its way to

achieving its endowment goal of $500,000 by 2016 and $300,000

by the end of 2010.

In today’s educational world, enrichment opportunities are more important than ever. Help us help McMinnville School District students. Your support is valuable and greatly appreciated.

The programs of the McMinnville Education Foundation reach

across all grade levels at every school in the District.

Science at Miller WoodsThe McMinnville Education Foun-dation partners with the Yamhill County Soil and Water Conserva-tion District to provide an outdoor laboratory for students to use at Miller Woods.

Elementary and middle school students have the opportunity to participate in hands-on field research with water quality, pond ecosystems, forestry studies, and animal habitats.

High school students involved in the science and education pathways serve as counselors for the younger students.

Art with Artists in ResidenceThis ongoing Artist-In-Residence program reaches all elementary students in the district. Classes work with guest artists to produce visual works of art with materi-als such as clay, paint, or fibers. Professional development is also provided for teachers. Foundation members work with school district staff and the Salem Arts Association to plan and facilitate the program.

Music at Linfield CollegeThe Foundation provides trans-portation for all district 4th graders to attend a live classical music concert at Linfield College. The students learn the nuances of the genre and composers as well as appreciative audience behavior. For many students, this engaging performance is their first introduction to string instruments. Supplemental materials are also provided to all elementary music teachers.

Innovative Mini-GrantsMcMinnville Education Founda-tion provides funds through mini grants that inspire teachers to develop and implement inno-vative programs to enhance stu-dents’ general education. Past mini grants have funded microscopes, telescopes, ukuleles, climbing walls, Spanish and English novel sets, among other enrichment opportunities.

In 2009, 68 mini grants were awarded to teachers K-12 for a total of $41,678. This amount rose by $5,898 from 2008 minigrants!

Starry Night WishesPrincipals from all schools submit “wishes” from their teachers. These wishes range from dissection equipment for the high school to catcher’s mitts for PE at the mid-level to sheets of watercolor paper for the elemen-tary level. Starry Night guests may fund the whole wish or partially fund a wish.

McMinnville Education Foundation Events

Starry Night Come be a part of this fabulous and worthwhile evening. Local chefs and businesses contribute their deft skills and quality prod-ucts to enhance the night’s camaraderie. The festivities kick off with a sparkling wine reception and silent auction amid the oak grove at Stoller Vineyard. A traditional salmon bake and palatial buffet dinner await tables of 8 guests. A complimentary bottle of Stoller wine and Heater Allen beer add a distinctive touch to each table. Dessert and s’mores, made with homemade Red Fox Bakery graham crackers, roasted over an open fire finish off the feast. The energy heats up with a dynamic oral auction and then dancing under the stars to a live band. Don’t miss Starry Night, the event of the summer.Mark your calendar for July 23rd!

Fashion Show The annual fashion show and luncheon welcomes its guests with a delicious catered meal by Harvest Fresh that includes wine and dessert. Before lunch is served, attendees have the opportunity to bid on silent auction items and purchase raffle tickets for donated gift baskets. A multitude of local businesses donate fantastic themed baskets. The fashion show showcases the latest spring fashions from McMinnville’s own Mes Amies. All outfits are modeled by McMinnville School District teachers and staff. Come see what this fun tradition is all about! The Fashion Show will be on May 7th, the Saturday before Mother’s Day.

We would like to thank all of our 2009 donors for their contribution to

the education of children in the McMinnville School District.
