    free.Diseases- Businessadministration major,

Tawatha Berry said,Alcohol can causehemorrhages. AlcoholSourcebook third edition, edited by Joyce Shannon, published in 2010, statesthat drinkingalcohol can causevarious healthproblems anddiseases such as;bleeding from thestomach, fatty liver, sleep disorders, depression, strokes, andseveral types ofcancers.Where domost peoplego wrongwhen drinkingalcohol?

Matson said,There is a safe way

to drink alcohol, but most peopledont know when itbecomes unsafe.

Pacing YourDrinking- WilliamHervey, Chair ofHealth ServicesAdministration, explained thatdrinking alcoholis not like eatingcookies. Youtake one cookieand if you want

another cookiethen you candecide consciouslywhether you willeat a second or athird.

Myers textbook,Psychology (editionnine), explains when youtake a drink of alcoholit lowers your self-awareness, your inhibition, and your thought process. You take your rst drink

and it alters your abilityto decide whether youshould drink a second, then your second drinkfurther alters your abilityto decide whether youshould drink a third drinkand so on.

Matson said, It takesalcohol 30-45 minutes toreach its peak eect onyour body.

Matson furtherexplained that whenyou take your rst drinkyou might feel that it issafe to drink a seconddrink because you dontfeel the full eect of the

rst drink yet. Later, theeects of both drinks willlayer together, increasingyour chance of becomingintoxicated, and your liverwill struggle to processthe alcohol. You canprevent this by spacingout your drinking and by

allowing your body tometabolize your previousdrinks before you drinkanother.

Know Your Limits-When discussing drinkingalcohol, physical therapymajor, Albert Williams

said, You need to knowyour limits.

Most people are underthe misconception thatif their tolerance ofalcohol is higher then itis safer for them to drinkalcohol. Actually if you

have a higher tolerance toalcohol then you are at ahigher risk to become analcoholic.

Information fromAlcohol Sourcebookthird edition explainsthat dopamineneurotransmitters in yourbrain control movement, motivation, and feelings

of pleasure. Drinkingalcohol over stimulatesthese transmitters causingeuphoric eects.

As a person continuesto drink alcohol their brainadapts to the surges ofdopamine by producingless naturally. As a result

you need toexponentially drinkmore alcohol toobtain the sameeects. Then whenyou try to stopdrinking alcohol, your brain isntproducing enoughdopamine, so youcrave alcohol.

This is what leadsto addiction andalcoholism. Can alcoholafect youdiferently?

Hervey said,Is there a safeway for everyoneto drink alcohol,no. According to,Associate Professorof Psychology,Dr. Ervin Briones, some peoplenever developa tolerance toalcohol.

AlcoholSourcebook thirdedition explains indetail how alcoholaects people

dierently basedon their; bodymass, gender, genetics, ethnicity, and the way theyview drinkingalcohol.

Gender- Your genderplays a large role in howmuch alcohol your bodycan handle. When alcoholenters the body it isdiluted by the amount ofuid in your body, since

woman have less uidin their body and theytend to be lighter, alcoholaects them stronger thenmen. On the other hand, men are more prone tobecoming dependent ondrinking alcohol becausethey do not feel the

eects of alcohol as strongas a woman.

Genetics- Research hasshone that people withfamily history of drinkingalcohol are more proneto becoming addictedto alcohol. The exacthereditary genes are stillbeing discovered, but bystudying diseases such

as ADHD and TouretteSyndrome, a correlationhas been discoveredbetween genes and thedeveloping of addictions.

Ethnicity- Comparedto whites, Hispanicshave been shown to betwice more at risk fordeveloping liver diseasewhile drinking alcohol.

This is due to a prevalenceof hepatitis C.

Body Mass- Peoplewith a higher body massabsorb alcohol better thenthose who are lighter.

This leads to a dangerousconcept. If your toleranceis partially dependant onyour weight then yourtolerance to alcohol canchange when you gain orloose weight.

Peoples view ofdrinking can causethem to abuse alcohol.

Tawatha Berry said, InItaly and France, some

people drink a glass of redwine with every meal, butthey dont abuse alcohol.

Briones explained thatthe placebo eect couldlead to addiction andmisuse of alcohol. Whenpeople believe alcohol ishelping their problemsthen they will becomedependent on alcohol.Medical Efects onYour Body and YourBrain

Sex- Briones said,A long term eect ofdrinking alcohol is erectiledysfunction. Accordingto Alcohol Sourcebookthird edition, excessivedrinking of alcohol canharm testicular functionand male hormonalproduction. Alcohol mayhelp lower your partnersambitions or give youmore condence, butdrinking alcohol can

    lower your overall sexualperformance.Calories- Alcohol

The majority of thebook is based on Isabelsdistractions rather than areal solid plot. Isab

ls knowledge ofpaintings, her useof Latin and Frenchphrases, i.e. a chacunson fromage everyonehas their own cheese, and her word power,i.e. funambulistatightrope walker, are allused to indicate a higherlevel of intelligence. However, what it

accomplishes is to distracteven more from the plot. Her use of a chacunson fromage was herway of getting out of anargument over cheesesthat she started withMinty Auchterlonie, theparty host, victim, andvillain.

More than half waythrough the book thereader nds out thatIsabel is a feminist asshe ponders yet another

The price to see a movie

There was a Call Meetingof Macon States AcademicCouncil Feb. 4 at 10 a.m.to decide on the creationof a new faculty senateand the conversion of theAcademic Council into anAcademic Assembly.

The faculty will vote ontwo documents to do withthe Academic Assemblyand the faculty senate.

    If the votes go through

on these two documentsand if they are approvedby President David Bell andthe Regents Oce, manyof the responsibilities ofAcademic Council will betransferred to the facultysenate.

The idea behind thechange is to transfer manyresponsibilities from thelarge Academic Council toa smaller faculty senate inorder to more quickly andeectively make decisionsabout important MaconState issues.

Chair of the ExecutiveCommittee of AcademicCouncil, Kevin Cantwell, said that the purpose ofthe faculty senate wouldbe to have a smaller, more deliberate bodythat is more intimate tocoordinate and betterserves students and moreeectively do work for thecollege.

Academic Council hasheld numerous forumsand meetings the last twomonths with SGA PresidentGreg Padgett and SGAVice President Liz Lawto discuss the changesplanned.

If the vote for the senategoes through, PresidentBell must then approvethe changes and then

the Regents Oce mustapprove them as well.Modications of thedocuments can be made aany point along the line ofneeded approvals.

I am optimistic thatthe vote will go through,Cantwell said.

If the proposed changesmake it through theRegents Oce, an electionwill be held in mid-

August of this coming fallsemester to vote on whowill hold the dierentsenate positions based onnominations from eachdepartment or academicschool.

The potential facultysenate is planned toinclude approximately 20senators and eight non-voting members, as well asthe SGA president and vicepresident.

The Academic Assemblyand the faculty senatewould be separate bodieswith the faculty senatemeeting more oftenand taking over moreresponsibilities.

The senate would meeta minimum of two times asemester up to a projectedtwo or more times amonth. All committeeswould report to the facultysenate.

    We are excited about

it because it brings anew chapter in sharedgovernment in the college.I think it will be good forthe college, and I thinkit will be good for thestudents because thefaculty senate will beable to better representstudents, Cantwell said.
