MCWS Youth Conference This past month the youth committee at MCWS put on a beautiful youth conference that told the stories of Prophets and inspirational women in Islam. The talks were focused on lessons that the youth could take from the lives of these historical figures and were beautiful overviews. Youth also organized two fantastic workshops that youth could take part in such as a workshop that allowed them to picture the different families mentioned in the Quran and the way they reacted to Prophets. Groups of youth represented the family of Imran and the family of Ibrahim (A.S) for example. The most beautiful thing about the whole conference, which drew in over a hundred students, was that it was primarily organized by a group of high school and college youth at MCWS. They worked so passionately to bring this to their colleagues and it really paid off. Allahuma barek we were so proud of them, below is a small excerpt from one of our lead youth organizers, Abdulrahman Ateya: The first ever winter youth conference happened just last month at MCWS, and it was a pleasure to attend. It was a spectacular event, and personally one of my favorite masjid events ever. The conference consisted of two workshops and six lectures. The theme of the conference was Sweetness of Islam, which I thought was pleasantly demonstrated by the topics of that day, which were Prophet Ibrahim (AS), Prophet Yusuf (AS), Asiya (AS), Maryam (AS), Prophet Isa and Prophet Muhammad (SAW). The workshops meshed nicely with these topics, which were centered around the lineage of the prophets and things surrounding them, like the model of the house of Prophet Muhammad. My favorite part of the conference was the opportunity to learn new things that I did not know before. The lecture about Asiya (AS) by Sister Amber Khan is a sparkling example of this. Going into her lecture, I knew almost nothing about Asiya, but when we finished the lecture, I realized that I had learned something completely new about an important historical figure in Islamic history. Adherence is the key

Never in history was humanity more connected via the technology, and never have been more disconnected, thanks to the same technology. Life is a paradox, we are told. We seem to be hurtling towards a speedy doom, with the doomsday predictors, predicting a third world war, the Ulema with their armor of sacred knowledge, predicting the same. Allahu Alam, But what IS undeniable is our own death which can strike anyone of us without a warning and a reason. The only way to beat death is to live life fully, with sense and sensibility. Keeping this as the subject matter of this writeup, let us examine what is it that can be done to make our lives matter. Half a century ago, we were running short of “ food, clothes and shelter”. Now we are inundated with it, you all know what I am talking about. What keeps us awake at night, gnawing away at our conscious is the misery in our hearts. So the number one problem that is stalking is we have everything, but actually, its like we have nothing. What is it that could be lacking in a community that has a record number of Huffadhs multitude of Tafseer les-sons online, the masjids overflowing with the devout, but on the warpath with each other, not conceding an inch to the other. I hear a chorus of voices rising to say it was always like this, through the ages. Yes, I agree this is an all familiar scenario. But were there always not a group of people who rose above the fray and shepherded communities. We are familiar with the Hadith that sometimes the listener can be better than the speaker, and the student better than the teacher, in his sincerity, intent and zeal. When we have been told again and again and again that our rewards are with Allah, what is wrong with us we are seeking renumeration from elsewhere. What is needed is conformity to time tested ways of our predecessors, not belligerence every step of the way. Every one cannot become a leader, we don’t have to be leaders, if our lot is to be a follower, let us play our role assiduously and be a good follower. We the Muslim Ummah have the greatest human ever created as our leader. Yet we are the most lackadaisical of followers. Please do not take anyone's account. Take your own. We will ensure our peace as well as others. Is there anything that cannot be solved in His mighty kingdom, if only we adhered.. Adherence, Adherence and more Adherence.
