How effectively is the combination of your main product and ancillary

• I believe that the combination of my main products and ancillary texts are effective, which represents and reveals the masses of synergy visable. When following the conventions of the rock & rap genre colours enables my audience to identify them. When looking at Rap&rock artists, they tend to dress very casually or sometimes scruffy. When organising a live concert photoshoot of my band, they dressed in white. White symbolizes their innocents. When creating my digi-pack and magazine advert I wanted to show visual similiarites so my audience would be able to identify my bands single, through genre.

A logo is something that represents the band and allows the audience to identify them within their genre. I used my bands logo so the audience could identify their music in an advert and on their single. The band could also pick up fans through this too as if one were to see the logo in a advert and then see their single cover, it would draw their attention towards the band.

Some bands even use their logo to create a buzz when releasing new videos. The Logo also allows their target audience to recognise their logo and it will be associated with that specific band every time it is seen. As you can see here there is an image from my video and an image from Greenday’s ‘American Idiot’ music video. Both videos are showing a symbol of their logo’s in the music video

Audiences would straight away recognise the colours matching each other. These colours (White, Black & Red) symbolize the Rock genre. When matching the maroon red colour, my initiative was to show a relationship with the advert and the front cover. I used the same colour on my advert as when it is advertised people, will recognise my album due to the similar colour fonts this is the first thing audience see when viewing any album.

Rock and rap genre tend to insert live footage, narrative (usually of an attractive girl, incorporating male gaze) and close-up shots of the rapper. Generally there are also close-up shots of the musical instruments. I used all of these typical conventions, which allowed for synergy to be enabled.

An analysis of Linkin park’s video ‘Numb’ suggests the concentration of the camera on the female shows she is concluded in the narrative of the music video.

An analysis of my music video ‘Mercurial’ also suggests this as the camera focuses on the chemistry between the two people in an over the shoulder shot.

Here is a close-up of the rapper from my band, the close-ups suggest he is the lead singer/rapper as there are an excessive amount of close-up shots on him

The Linkin Park rapper is also suggested to be the leader of his band as there are many various close-up shots of him too. Close-up shots are commonly found in rap videos as they are typical conventions of the genre.

Within the rock genre it is a typical convention to show close-ups of musical instruments, especially guitars. To the left is an image of live video footage of my band performing.

• When creating my ancillary text, It was revealed through research and analysis that rock genres tend to use big bold letters drawing audiences to the subject. When researching rap genres they happened to be the same which gave me ideas and answers, in which how to project my magazine in coloration to my artwork of the front and back cover. The rock and rap genre type CD covers and Magazine ads also helped me understand necessities that should be within the products itself. In CD covers I found symbols for explicit content, big bold letters drawing ones attention to it, barcodes, distribution details and similarities between the color on the front and back of the cover. In Magazine ads I found logos as I mentioned before, dates and information on where you can purchase the artists music and record label logos. Rock genre types tend to have brief review titles, giving the audience momentum before they have listened to the music themselves. These were all the ways my digit-pack allowed there to be synergy.

In terms of the color ‘white’ it also represents my bands masculinity as well as the rappers.

As you can see, the dates for both Magazines are stated in big bold writing, which is a tool through media marketing.

In relation to the colours of association with ‘Rock’ I was able to portray the same texture to my ancillary product as I used the typical rock genre colors (Red, White & Black) that would be able to be easily identified by my target audience.

They both have their band names in big bold writing, attracting attention to themselves.

As you can see the typical black and white colours allow the audience associate them with the ‘Rap & Rock’ genre. When creating my front and back cover I used black and white, but in a more modern art format, using multiple colors. I did this to show, technology is changing and different colours are starting to associate with different genres.

Linkin Park’s bold writing on their cover name appears in an edgy dark red font, suggesting conventions of rock as Red is symbol for danger and rebellion. I capitalized and used red font within my cover too. This gives an opportunity for audience to notice conventions within my hybrid genre straight away.

Looking towards the middle, you can see their logo, a main part of their image. As you can also see my bands Logo too.

In terms of the color of my cover shows a lot of it including a spot light and a stage that has been inserted as the background of the image to suggest their dream of up-coming fame.

Linkin park’s cover seems more plain then my own. It could suggest their innocence. Using black font works well with the image as the band are dressed in black to.

Noticeably I also used a symbolisation for ‘explicit content’ which is a convention within the Rap and the rock genre. However it is mostly seen on a Rap cover.

Each of these products have barcodes, information on distribution and record labels.

As you can see, my binder has my band logo on it, making it easier for audiences to identify it in a selection
