FILM REVIEW RESEARCH

I have completed all 10 film reviews as part of my research. I found it extremely useful as I gained inspiration from each film I watched. Putting all these ideas together definitely helped me get a more solid idea together. It also put me in a good position for my film review analysis and when I have to write one myself for the ancillary task.

I have nearly completed all 10 film poster analysis. I have a fairly good idea of what makes an effective poster and already have a rough idea of what I want mine to look like.

SCRIPT

Writing the script has been quite challenging due to it being a comedy. I have constantly gone back and changed things as they are not as funny as id once thought. For my film to be successful it has to have a very solid script and it is taking time to complete. I would say I'm around ¾ finished. I have thought of an appropriate ending but it will take time to finalise.

After I have finished the first draft I will rewrite it with more directions and shot types

CASTING

Casting for my film has also been difficult. I know comedy is very challenging to get right, so the actors I use must be comfortable with doing it. The lead in the film (Jason) is a student himself so using someone from school would make sense. I am leaning towards using Harvey Kirchgaesser who I cast in my work last year.

My short film also has a narrator. This has been very hard to cast as I pictured him as a wise, older man in my head and I didn’t want to use a student or friend. Luckily, an experienced actor I know named Johnny Griffiths (pictured) has agreed to do it. I am extremely excited to work with a professional actor and hopefully my film will be better because of it.

CASTING

There are also a lot of minor roles in my film. There is a particular scene that I want to shoot in school. If I want this to seem real I will need to get a group of extras together and shoot at an appropriate time. This may be quite difficult to arrange so I should get a date set as soon as possible.

I still need to cast the following roles: Angry girl #1 Angry girl #2 Builder Jason's Mum

FILMING

Although I will do the main chunk of the filming for my piece I want someone that I can discuss ideas with and help me with more challenging shots or angles. I have decided that Joe Candlin would be the most helpful as I have seen his work from last year and I think his input will benefit the film hugely.

I have scheduled to do some location shots this week but here are some of the locations I want to film at:

School corridor Gym Coffee shop Alleyway Home Park

WHAT I NEED TO DO NEXT

Test shots, I need to see if my own camera is capable of the shots I want.

Location scouting, I need to find the right places to film. Website/review analsyis, I need to finish this part of my

research. Complete my script.
