SHORT FILM FESTIVALS.➤ Throughout the UK there are many different short film festivals where short film producers can

exhibit what they have created.➤ For example, there is a Glasgow Short Film Festival on 16-20th March 2016 which is the largest

competitive short film festival in Scotland.➤ At The Wimbledon International Short Film Festival you can enter films in 5 different

categories:➤ WFC Award for Best Wimbledon Shorts film➤ Best Animated Film➤ Student Filmmaker Award (filmmakers under 25 in schools, colleges and universities)➤ Best Documentary➤ Best London Filmmaker (any film that is either made in Greater London or made by a filmmaker who lives

or works in Greater London). ➤ The Aesthetica Short Film Festival is linked with BAFTA and will showcase more than 300 films

as part of its Official Selection.➤ This is a good way for short film producers to exhibit and distribute their work because it will

put them straight into the industry and allow them to distribute to the right people.

ONLINE DISTRIBUTION.➤ In recent times it has become more

likely hat films are distributed online because of developments in technologies.

➤ Youtube is a global video-sharing website where anyone in the world can upload and view videos. Short films producers can upload their content onto there and distribute instantly to a global audience.

➤ Streaming websites, like Netflix and Lovefilm, however don’t offer a wide range of short films. If you were to search for a while you may find a couple on each, on Netflix to seems to be only Disney Short Films which are available. This means that it is harder for short films to be distributed online because they don't have access to large distributors like Netflix.

AWARD WINNING SHORTS.➤ 'Bubble' is an independent short film

directed by Faisal Hashmi. It is about ‘a driven candidate moments before the most important point of his career. A desparate thug moments before the most dangerous decision of his life. An abstract and compelling short film about finding peace in regret.’ It won Film of Eye 2 Heart 2012 and Official Selection of First International Short Film Festival.

➤ ‘Identity’ is an inspirational short film which emphasis the right everyone has to be themselves. The caption is; ‘Living in a world where everybody wears masks due to lack of self-identity, a brave girl encounters the truth that sets her free’.

Short films can win awards for many

different reasons, for example Best

Cinematography and Best Sound Design.

SHORTS USED AS PRE-SALES FOR FEATURE FILMS:➤ Film production companies often

use shorts to generate pre-sales before they release the feature length film. They create hype and showcase part of the film to interest the audience.

➤ ‘Lights Out’ is a 2016 feature film in which a woman is haunted by a creature that only appears when the lights go out. This film was originally a short, which was realises in 2013, and the film is based all around that concept.
