“I started my career at a consulting firm. They assigned me to Comsof, and this way I got to know the culture, the products, and the people behind Comsof. The openness of the colleagues, the flat structure, the challenging work. It all appealed to me. That’s why, when the opportunity arose, I switched to Comsof. Where I was hired as a developer.”

Did you have any doubts when you started?

“There was one big challenge for me. I had no experience in the telecom sector. But that wasn’t an issue for our CEO Raf, he was willing to invest in me. So the Comsof team trained me to become a consultant, and I worked in that capacity for a year. I quickly learned the ins and outs of the telecom industry and I started to understand the diverse require-ments of our clients and how to translate them into code.”

How did you cometo work at Comsof?

“We are more than code writers, we are problem solvers. We translate real-life issues into working software solutions. You need an engineering point of view on how to solve a problem. Say a telecom company is not allowed by law to deploy its cabling underground, it has to install it on the house fronts. This issue can’t be solved with a simple formula. We need to think further, as we make software for networks that have to last for a lifetime.”

What keeps your job challenging?

“At Comsof you never work alone. The complexity of the work requires close co-operation and the flat structure and dialogue culture create a work environment where you feel fully supported. You receive a lot of responsibility, and your colleagues always provide a safety net.”

“The dynamic between Comsof employees is very positive. Most of us are quite sporty, we attend an obstacle run and a running event every year. We also organize game evenings, indoor soccer and ice-skating events and we go lunching together. Our office is in Dok Noord, a hip area in the city of Gent, with lots of hip restaurants, and a food court.”

How is the company culture at Comsof?

“In a mere three years I grew from consultant to developer and then to lead developer. I already have quite some responsibility in my present function. And it doesn’t stop there. Comsof is developing several other software solutions, for district heating for example, and smart grids. So we are growing fast and evolving constantly. The past years we hired new employees in every department. It’s motivating to be working in an environment like this.”
