PHYSICAL

EDUCATION

PURPOSE of PE:To enable students to demonstrate individually and with others the physical skills, practices, and values to enjoy a lifetime of active, healthy living

GOALS OF PEGoal 1: Acquire a range of motor skills to participate in a variety of

physical activities.

Goal 2: Understand and apply movement concepts, principles and strategies in a range of physical activities.

Goal 3: Demonstrate safe practices during physical and daily activities with respect to themselves, others and the environment.

Goal 4: Display positive personal and social behaviour across different experiences.

Goal 5: Acquire and maintain health-enhancing fitness through regular participation in physical activities.

Goal 6: Enjoy and value the benefits of living a physically active and healthy life.

Physical Education (P2)

PE Components Description

Danceexplore a variety of locomotor and non-locomotor movements in variations

of pathway, force and flow, and explore shapes in variations of level and

extension

Games & Sportsrolling (underhand), throwing, catching, striking/trapping (with implement),

kicking/trapping (with body part), volleying (with body part),

dribbling/tapping (with hand, leg and implement)

Gymnasticsbody management and control through creative interpretation of

movement and sequence (travelling, jumping, balancing, rotating,

sequencing, climbing, mounting, dismounting, vaulting)

Outdoor Educationdevelop appropriate outdoor skills through physical activities while

cultivating an attitude of care and appreciation for the environment, and

thoughtful consideration of the risks and safety of self and others

Physical Health &

Fitnesssafety (road, public places, physical activity), food & growth, good hygiene

practices, oral care, transmissible diseases

* Summative grade will focus on selected components

Physical Education (P3)

PE Components Description

Athleticsinvolves students primarily in running, jumping (distance & height) and

throwing activities

Danceexplore movement phrases in variations of position (i.e. in front of/behind,

beside, between) and formation, with and without contacting group

members, in response to music

Games & Sportsthrowing, catching, striking/trapping (with long-handed implement),

kicking/trapping (with body part), striking/volleying (with body part),

dribbling, striking (with racket)

Gymnasticsbody management and control through creative interpretation of movement

and sequence (travelling, jumping, balancing, rotating, sequencing,

climbing, mounting, dismounting, vaulting)

Outdoor Educationnavigation skills such as locating the position of self in relation to the

landmarks in the school using pictorial charts and outdoor living skills such

as knowing what to pack for a day trip

Physical Health &

Fitnesswater safety, cycling safety, healthy eating, hands/feet cleanliness, vision

care, mosquito-borne diseases

Swimmingenter & exit pool using hands & feet from standing/sitting position, floatation

techniques, swim in a recognisable stroke for in a straight pathway

* Summative grade will focus on selected components

Swimsafer Program

• The SwimSafer programme consists of sixprogressive stages, each comprising 12 hours of lesson time.

• MOE and SportSG will co-fund an approved cap of $70.00 per student for the course fees, assessment and pool entrance fees for any one Stage (Stage 1 – 6).

• Start date : Sep-Oct 2017

PE Lessons

• Be appropriately attired (PE T-shirt and shorts)

- otherwise not allowed to participate

• Excused from PE if unwell (doctor’s MC/ parent’s letter)

- teachers will usually give pupils the benefit of doubt

• Emphasis on safe play

- remind pupils not to push their peers in mischief

• Management of Injury during PE lessons

- attend to treat the injury (no application of cream, oil etc)

- ambulance will be called in for serious injury

- call to inform parent/ guardian

EDUCATION

Learning Outcomes of Art Education

PRIMARY 2 & 3

The aims of art education are to enable every child to be visually literate and to appreciate

art.

The objectives are achieved through: Artmaking (making of artwork) and

Art Discussion (talk/ write about the artwork)

Drawing and Painting (with Elements of Art – dots, lines, shapes, colours, texture, form)

Examples of Artworks:• Paper Cut• Water colour painting• Paper clay sculpture• Patterns

Primary 2 - Art Skills

Primary 3 - Art skills:

At least 5 components with Art Discussion• Drawing • Colouring & Painting• Collage• Print making/ Patterns• Craft• 3D/ Sculpture

Focus skill for Primary Three:– Acrylic Painting

Holistic Assessment• Personal Response

- Share ideas through their drawing

• Use of Media & Materials- use of tools and materials in their artwork

• Aesthetics Qualities- discuss about their artwork using appropriate art vocabulary (Elements of Art)

Summative grade will focus on selected components.

• Please buy only round-tipped scissors for your child for art

lessons

• Please inform FT & Art Teacher if your

child has an allergy to any art materials.
