    REVERSE CREATION by Bernard Backman

    by IV-1 (RIZAL) batch 2009-2010 on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 2:28pm

In the end, we destroyed the heaven that was called Earth. The Earth had beenbeautiful until our spirit moved over it and destroyed all things.

    And we said...

Let there be darkness... and there was darkness. And we liked the darkness; so wecalled the darkness, Security. And we divided ourselves into races and religions

and classes of society. And there was no morning and no evening on the seventhday before the end.

    And we said...

Let there be a strong government to control us in our darkness. Let there bearmies to control our bodies so that we may learn to kill one another neatly andefficiently in our darkness. And there was no evening and no morning on the sixthday before the end.

    And we said...

Let there be rockets and bombs to kill faster and easier; let there be gas chambersand furnaces to be more thorough. And there was no evening and no morning onthe fifth day before the end.

    And we said...

Let there be drugs and other forms of escape, for there is this constant annoyance- Reality - which is disturbing our comfort. And there was no evening and nomorning on the fourth day before the end.

    And we said.

Let there be divisions among the nations, so that we may know who is our commonenemy. And there was no evening and no morning on the third day before the end.

    And finally we said...

Let us create God in our image. Let some other God compete with us. Let us saythat God thinks as we think, hates as we hate, and kills as we kill. And there was no

morning and no evening on the second day before the end.

    through ages and ages eternal

and the seed struck rootsbeneath the rich dark breasts of the

hillsand the trees grew stately and tallagainst the skiesand with the trees man built himself ahouse;and the house was good and clean;the breath of the tress was in it,and the warmth of the forest was itssoul.a man said; this is my house, this is my bodys house,as also it is my souls.

    and there he raised his childrenand they, too, in their timesowed the loved seedsunder the white eternal suns of theearth, in the far hillsin the valleys where the grasswas sweet and cool and shiningand they, too, reared their childrenand their homes, and they said:GOD, these are ours till we die,and man sitting alone,thinking of these things was happy;

fulfilled at lastthe cycle completed though endlessand life goes on and on and onthrough arches of opulent eternities, orbited in seeds and flowers and love.

but now man sits alone and unhappyfor in the far hills and in the plains and

valleyswhere once his children reared theirchildrenand built their homes and sowed the

loved seedsunder the white eternal suns of theearth;in the far valleys where once thebrooksenriched the fields of grainsand farmers, children of his children, stood against the sunrise and sawin the bright-vistaed distancesthe future, the harvest, the nights offull moons and peace and love-songsand heard the tender sound of

poundingin the still nights; saw the fat sheavespiled high over the reach land, promisesof plenty and freedom from want andhungerheard the laughter and saw thesinging goldand the fulfillment of the triple matingof rain, and sun, and earthin the far fields and valleys:no life but death

no longer singing gold but blood.and in the cool sweet grass whereonce the windsstirred in song, he saw bodies of menwho were his children, their heartsforever stilled in death.

man sees all this and sitting thus in

silenceand shame, he weeps but light shinesuponhis bowed head and he goes down hishouseand walks over his fields againhe bends down to contemplate a bladeof grasspeeping from a crack in the dry earth:the grass does not die, he says.and through his tears he sees life

arisingin meekness but triumphant from theravaged cities of his soul.and man knows in his heart, suddenly, that after these:there shall come beauty again, anddove again, and love gain through ages and ageseternal.

Title: If I Were A VoiceAuthor: Charles Mackay [MoreTitlesby Mackay]

    I.

If I were a voice, a persuasive voice,That could travel the wide worldthrough,I would fly on the beams of the

morning light,And speak to men with a gentle might,

And tell them to be true.I'd fly, I'd fly, o'er land and sea,Wherever a human heart might be,

Telling a tale, or singing a song,In praise of the right - in blame of thewrong.

    II.

If I were a voice, a consoling voice,I'd fly on the wings of air,

The homes of Sorrow and Guilt I'dseek,And calm and truthful words I'd speak

To save them from Despair.I'd fly, I'd fly, o'er the crowded town,And drop, like the happy sun-light,downInto the hearts of suffering men,And teach them to rejoice again.

    III.

If I were a voice, a convincing voice,I'd travel with the wind,And whenever I saw the nations tornBy warfare, jealousy, or scorn,If I were a voice, a convincing voice,I 'd travel with the wind,

And whenever I saw the nations tornBy warfare, jealousy, or scorn,Or hatred of their kind,I'd fly, I'd fly, on the thunder-crash,And into their blinded bosoms flash; And, all their evil thoughts subdued,I'd teach them Christian Brotherhood.

    IV.

If I were a voice, a pervading voice,I'd seek the kings of Earth;I'd find them alone on their beds atnight--And whisper words that should guidethem right--Lessons of priceless worth;I'd fly more swift than the swiftestbird,And tell them things they neverheard--

Truths which the ages for aye repeat--

Unknown to the statesmen at theirfeet.

    V.

If I were a voice, an immortal voice,I'd speak in the people's ear;And whenever they shouted "Liberty,"Without deserving to be free,I'd make their error clear.I'd fly, I'd fly, on the wings of day,Rebuking wrong on my world-wideway,And making all the Earth rejoice--IfI were a voice--an immortal voice.
