  • Melodica Coin PurseDIRECTIONS Notes

Store your coins and tiny treasures securely within this pretty

little lined coin purse. Dainty floral motifs add just the right

amount of sweetness and give you a chance to brush up on your

    colorwork skills.

The outer purse and the lining are knit separately from the top

down and completed with Kitchener stitch on the botttoms. After

blocking, they are sewn together, then sewn to the purse frame.

Outer Purse With MC CO 96 sts. Arrange sts across 4 dpns, with 24 sts on

each. Join to begin working in the rnd, being careful not to twist

    sts.

Work from Coin Purse Chart, beginning with Rnd 1 and working

from right to left across the first 48 sts. Each row of the Coin

Purse Chart will be worked twice per round. Continue working

from Coin Purse Chart until the end of Round 55.

Break yarn, leaving at least 20” tail for sewing up the bottom of

    the coin purse.

Closing the bottom Arrange sts on 2 dpns so that the first 48 sts are directly opposite

the last 48 sts. Right sides should be facing out, and the wrong

sides in. Using the yarn tail Kitchener st the bottom of the coin

purse together. Break yarn; draw ends inside coin purse and

    weave in all ends.

Purse Liner With CC2 CO 92 sts. Arrange sts across 4 dpns, with 23 sts on

each. Join to begin working in the round, being careful not to

    twist sts.

Work in St st until piece measures 4.75” from cast on edge. The

coin purse liner is now complete.

Break yarn, leaving an at least a 20” tail for sewing up the bottom

    of the coin purse liner.

Closing the bottom Arrange sts on 2 dpns so that the first 46 sts are directly opposite

the last 46 sts. Right sides should be facing out, and the wrong

sides in. Using the yarn tail Kitchener st the bottom of the coin

purse liner together. Break yarn; draw ends inside coin purse liner

    and weave in.

Finishing Wet block or steam block both outside and liner so that they

both lie flat. Turn coin purse liner inside out and insert into

outside of coin purse so that both wrong sides are facing each

other. Line up the loose edges of the coin purse and the liner so

that they are even. Using the yarn needle and a 30” length of MC

yarn, whip stitch the liner to the outside of the coin purse. When

finished sewing, draw ends to the inside in between the outside

of the coin purse and the liner. The body of the coin purse is now

    complete.

Sew completed body of coin purse to coin purse frame with

sewing needle and two 30” lengths of MC yarn. For best results

begin sewing purse to frame from the middle of the body of the

coin purse, working to each edge in turn.

When the coin purse body is completely and securely attached

to the purse frame, draw remaining ends to inside between the

outside of the coin purse and the liner to conceal them. Your

Melodica coin purse is now complete. Fill with coins (or tiny

    treasures) and enjoy!
