After finishing a postgraduate degree in HR, Lucy joined the London Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, managing some 900 volunteers across the aquatics sports. She brings to the board practical experience of managing events for international competitions and, along with her HR background, is keen to carry on working with volunteers to ensure the right people are recruited, retained and motivated to work for the EKA. MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR

MEMBERSHIP PACK FOR CLUBS & AREAS

Welcome to England Korfball, the National Governing Body for the Sport. As members you are joining an exclusive community of 83 clubs and areas associations. We have developed this membership pack to help you over the coming twelve months and highlight some key initiatives that we hope will benefit you.

This is my second year as chairman and my fifth volunteering for England Korfball and I feel incredibly privileged to represent your views both at home and internationally. When I visit our members I’m so very proud and impressed of all of the hard work and dedication each and every one of our volunteers gives. Without you continuing to enthuse and attract new and existing members, we wouldn’t be growing at the rate we are.

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR

7

Club Development Steering Group, more information will be available in the year.

We are under no illusion that the next twelve month is going to be tough, but we’re really up for the fight to serve our members and ensure we are continually improving our services. If you have any suggestions on how we could improve or how we can better engage

with you I would love to hear as I am determined to listen and ensure we can grow as a Korfball community. Finally, I would just like to pass on my thanks again to you and all those that volunteer in your clubs and areas that make korfball such a great sport for all of our participants.

Craig GoslingChairman England Korfball

We have made a steady start in reaching our strategic objectives 10,000 participants- last year saw nearly a 15% increase in membership with over 210 competing teams in competition.

Our top priority last year was to reform our coaching infrastructure to ensure that every team in the country has at least one qualified coach is absolutely essential. In June we launched the first Level 1 course and we aimed to put over a 100 coaches through this award in the next twelve months. Since the launch we have been inundated with demand both in and outside of the Sport. We will continue to push on in 2014 with the launch of our Teachers and Level 2 Coaching Courses (see page 10 for more detail).

Priorities in 2014I want to tackle two big issues, firstly the support we provide you, secondly improving our communication. It’s essential we act and work together as one community to benefit korfball.

To achieve this we have established a Chairs Forum- giving you as member’s direct access and influence upon our policies but more importantly providing an opportunity to share information and insight.

Secondly, to increase our investment and focus on Club Health, our flagship scheme to support you to grow the Sport. Club Health has grown massively over the last 12 months as we have carried out a whole series of national road shows, online surveys and interviews with our members, I hope you will take the opportunity to get involved in the Chairs Forum or even become members of

IN 2014, I WANT TO TACKLE TWO BIG ISSUES, FIRSTLY THE SUPPORT WE PROVIDE YOU, SECONDLY IMPROVING OUR COMMUNICATION. IT’S ESSENTIAL WE ACT AND WORK TOGETHER AS ONE COMMUNITY TO BENEFIT KORFBALL.
