SMCHS ACADEMIC INTEGRITY POLICY 2019 Per the SMCHS Student Parent Handbook

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY Academic integrity and ethical behavior are expected from all SMCHS students. Academic

dishonesty and unethical behavior are contrary and counterproductive to the philosophy and goals of SMCHS. Academic

dishonesty includes, but is not limited to: Plagiarism – Plagiarism is defined as the theft and use of another's ideas or

writings as one's own, with or without the knowledge of the other person. This includes misrepresenting or fabricating a

source. Cheating – Cheating is defined as having, without the teacher’s authorization, notes, materials, and/or

resources of any type (calculators, computers, the help of another student, looking at another paper, answers and/or

pertinent information written on any item, etc.) during any exam, quiz, on a submitted paper, and/or homework

assignment. Presenting previously submitted works from other classes as new work is considered cheating. Facilitating

Dishonesty – Knowingly sharing passwords to allow others access to one’s own work or allowing another student to

obtain, without the teacher’s authorization, information from one's own, or someone else’s, exam, paper, and/or

homework or doing the work of another. Improper Collaboration – Working together on a project or assignment

without the instructor’s knowledge or permission. Students may tutor other students within proper limits. A tutor may

work any assignment, question or problem for a student that is not being turned in for a grade. If an assignment is being

turned in for a grade, a student should never turn in the tutor's solution as if it were his (or her) own. Hence, the tutor

should not supply a complete (or even partial) solution to that particular answer or problem. Tutors SMCHS 2018-2019

Parent Student Handbook Page 58 may, however, create or select similar questions or problems and work through them

for the purpose of illustrating the concepts and methods that the student will need in completing the assignment. It is

also permissible for a tutor to look at a student's work on an assignment for the purpose of identifying the student's

errors. The tutor can then address any misconceptions that might have caused these errors and, without giving the

direct answer, explain the correct principles, using appropriate examples to illustrate each point. Academic Misconduct

– Tampering with grades, tests, or other class materials; stealing or tampering with the work of another student.

Consequences When a teacher determines that a student is in violation of the academic integrity policy, he or she will

refer the student to the discipline office for the following consequences: First Offense – Consequences include, but are

not limited to, the following: "No Credit" on test/assignment, Referral to Dean’s Office, Saturday Detention(s), Parent

Contact, Sanctions Agreement providing notification that another Academic Dishonesty will result in a referral to the

Principal for involuntary withdrawal of student from SMCHS. Second Offense – Consequences include, but are not

limited to, the following: "No Credit" on test/assignment, Parent Contact, Referral to the Principal for involuntary

withdrawal of student from SMCHS. Consequences for Academic Dishonesty on a Semester/Final Exam To be

determined by the Dean’s Office. Depending upon the nature and seriousness of the situation, consequences include,

but are not limited to, the following: "No Credit" on the exam (20% of the final grade), Sanctions, Suspension, Probation,

Parent Contact, “U” in Citizenship for semester, possible Involuntary Withdrawal, Expulsion from SMCHS, Student

removed from any and all elected or leadership positions for the remainder of the school year or the following semester.

Consequences for Academic Dishonesty on National Examinations To be determined by the Dean’s Office. Depending

upon the nature and seriousness of the situation, consequences include, but are not limited to, the following: Sanctions,

Suspension, Probation, Parent Contact, “U” in Citizenship for semester, possible Involuntary Withdrawal, Expulsion from

SMCHS. Student removed from any and all elected or leadership positions for the remainder of the school year or the

following semester. National Examinations include, but are not limited to, the following, IOWA, PLAN, PSAT, SAT, ACT,

AP, and IB. Additional Consequences An incident of academic dishonesty will result in the student's removal from the

honor roll for the quarter (if necessary) and may also jeopardize the student's membership in National Honor Society

and California Scholarship Federation. Academic Dishonesty in an Honors class (including AP and IB classes) may result in

the student's removal from the class.

Answer Booklet Guide

This guide has been produced to help you as a candidate become familiar with using answer booklets in IB Diploma Programme and Career-related Programme examinations.

What does the answer booklet look like?

Each booklet consists of four pages. On the top of the front page there are sections in which to indicate your session number and name, along with brief instructions on how to correctly write question numbers. The remainder of this page and all other pages are for you to write your answers to examination questions. Please remember to write your answers on the lines, keeping within the large pink box on each page. Beside the lines for your answers are boxes in which you must write the number of each question you answer.

Some important advice

Know your candidate session number.

Read the IB poster Conduct of the examinations: notice to candidates. If you haveany questions about what it says, ask your coordinator.

Take only authorized material into the examination room. If you are found inpossession of unauthorized material (for example, notes, a mobile/cell phone)even by mistake, you will be in breach of the IB regulations.

Write in dark blue or black ink only. Do not use gel pens. The use of colour is only permitted in geography examinations.

Draw a line through any plans or working out that you do not want marked.

At the end of the examination, place the below material (whereapplicable) together in the following sequence:

• the blue coversheet at the front• the examination paper (but only if this is the kind of examination paper in

which

you write answers)

• the answer booklet(s)

• squared paper (used in Chinese/Japanese language examinations)

Secure the above material together with a string tag.

• graph paper

If you make a mistake

Example 3

If you start writing an answer to a question and then decide you are going to answer a different question altogether, fill in the question number box in addition to putting a line through the wrong answer. Write the question number of the new answer in the next box and begin your answer again (see Example 3).

Completing your session number and name

Before you begin writing answers to questions, please write your candidate session number and name in the appropriate boxes on the first page. If you do not know your session number, ask the examination invigilator. Your session number and name must appear on the front page of each booklet you use.

Completing the boxes

You must ensure you have written the question number correctly before you begin writing each of your answers.

Example 1Where a question is split into part numbering, for example (a), (b), (c) or (i), (ii), you must write this on the line at the start of your answer. It is not necessary to indicate the question number more than once for questions that are split into part numbering, and there is no need to write the name of the section, topic or theme that you are answering from (see Example 1).

If your answer goes over more than one page, there is no need to write the question number again at the top of each new page.

Example 2Leave at least one line space between each answer. If there is not one line space available between the last line of your answer and the next question number box, go to the next available question number box and start your next answer there (see Example 2).

If you run out of space

If you run out of space in your answer booklet, ask the invigilator for a new booklet and complete your session number and name on the front page. If you are continuing with an answer that you started in your first booklet, write the question number again in the new booklet before continuing with your answer.

If you need to go back and write more for any of your answers at any stage, go to the end of the last answer that you wrote in your answer booklet. In the next available box, write the question number again and then continue your answer.

If you make a mistake when writing your question number, fill in the question number box and use the next available box.

• Collusion - supporting malpractice by another candidate, as in allowing your work to be copied or

submitted for assessment by another candidate.• Duplication of work - the presentation of the same work for different assessment components and/or IB

diploma requirements.• Misconduct during an examination, including the

possession of unauthorized material.• Disclosing information to another candidate, or

receiving information from another candidate, about the content of an examination paper

within 24 hours after the examination.

However, all memory must be initialized/reset on these models Please note that the FX CG50 and Graph 90+E already come with an IB approved operating system (3.0) and will not need to be updated. However the latest operating system, 3.20, is available via the link and teachers and students are advised to keep their operating system up to date for device stability and security. As above, the “Examination Mode” functionality must be engaged for the FX CG50 and Graph 90+E immediately before the examination and continue for the duration of the examination.
