Essential information about AV equipment at Chapman BuildingPCs in the Chapman Building are frozen

PCs in the Chapman Building use Deep Freeze. This means that when a PC switches off, anything saved to the hard drive (Desktop or c:drive) is irretrievably wiped from the machine. Make sure you save any files you want to keep to your f:drive, pen drive or another shared area.

Rooms shutdown automatically after 1 hour

In support of the University’s green agenda, rooms are fitted with motion sensors. If either no motion is detected in the room for 1 hour, or the PC is not touched for 1 hour, the PC (see above), the AV equipment and the lights in the room switch off.

Using the AV control touch screenThe basic principle of using the AV equipment in the Chapman Building lecture theatres is that you choose the device you wish to project and then choose where you want to project it.

You can choose to project from a range of different sources using the AV control touch screen. As there are 4 output devices (2x monitors and 2x projectors), you can display multiple sources on multiple output devices at the same time.

For example you could project a presentation from PC Left to the Left Monitor and Left Projector whilst displaying a Blu-ray movie clip on the Right Monitor and Right Projector.

If you are connecting additional hardware, plug your hardware in using the cables provided and press the corresponding button on the AV control touch screen to change the projection source.

Displaying from PC Left PC Left can be considered the main pc for the lecture theatre.

1. On the AV control touch screen press the PC Left button as your source.

2. Press the output device(s) you want the PC image to be displayed on e.g. Left Monitor, Left Projector and Right Projector.

3. Corresponding colours of the output devices you have chosen will display on the PC Left button on the AV control touch screen.

In the example screenshot above, you can see PC Left is being displayed on the Left Monitor and both projectors.

4. Login to the PC using the PC Left keyboard and mouse.

1. On the AV control touch screen press the PC Right button.

2. PC Right is an extended desktop, so it automatically displays to all 4 output devices i.e. Left Monitor, Right Monitor, Left Projector and Right Projector.

3. Corresponding colours of the output devices will display on the PC Right button on the AV control touch screen.

4. Login to the PC using the PC Right keyboard and mouse.

5. Any application or window you open on PC Right can be dragged from one monitor to the other, and this will be replicated on the projectors.

On the front of the Smart Interactive Monitor you will find a tethered pen tool, which allows you to write on the screen in a variety of digital ink colours.

The pen tool also acts like a mouse to launch applications and files, make notes and save work. As the pen tool is the point of contact on the screen, you can rest your hand on the screen while you use the pen.
