Menomonee Falls was on the verge of losing its hometournament to its key Greater Metro Conference rivalOct. 5, as the Indians who split the first two games ofthe best-of-three set were trailing Divine Savior HolyAngels 12-14 with the Dashers serving for the win.
Menomonee Falls refused to lose, scoring five of thelast six points to win the Menomonee Falls Invite with a25-20, 15-25, 17-15 victory over the Dashers.
"It's a great win, but we know we're going to have toplay them again if we want get to where we need to getto," Menomonee Falls Coach J.C. Bruns said afterward."Enjoy it now, but be ready for the next time."
The title match started minutes after Menomonee Fallswent to a third game to beat Kettle Moraine Lutheran, 27-29, 25-14, 15-9. Bruns noted his team put a lot of energyinto that match and he was worried about his team for thetile match.
"They're were ready for it. Our team was up for thechallenge and I'm proud of that," he said.

A decision by the Wisconsin State Patrol has prompted achange in the way the village of Menomonee Falls will collectleaves this fall.
The changes were explained by Public Works DirectorArlyn Johnson during the Oct. 7 Village Board meeting.
The village collects leaves in portions of the village with
curb and gutter to prevent the leaves from clogging sewers.Under the village policy, only leaves are picked up; the villagewill not pick up clipped grass or other lawn debris. Johnson saidthe leaves are composted by the village and then used in lawnrestoration projects.
According to Johnson, the village had been using two trucks
that had vacuums mounted to collect the leaves. However, there were accidents in Sheboygan in November 2011 andNeenah in 2012 that involved similar leaf collection trucks, withthe 2011 accident killing a person. In both accidents, it wasdetermined visibility was a factor, since the vacuums go over thefront of the truck. The State Patrol parked the trucks due to the
obstructed view. The village has two such trucks which it has used for 11
years, both of which are now out of service due to the StatePatrol ruling. In the meantime, Johnson said the village is devel-oping a new method for which leaves are pushed into garbagetrucks using custom built loading ramps by smaller articulated
pusher vehicles. For the new process, the village is renting two garbage
trucks to rent leaves. The trucks were rented by a firm in Florida, and Johnson said transportation covered part of the cost of therental. He added that it costs $2,000 per week to rent thetrucks.
Johnson said there will be fewer trips using the rented pack-er trucks, since they will get more leaves in the truck.
Our intent is to be as efficient as possible with the collec-tion, Johnson said. He said the operation will save onresources used for leaf collection.

Menomonee Falls residents served byMilwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District(MMSD) will see a small increase in their por-tion of user fees charged by the agency.
MMSD conveys sewage from the eastside of the village to its treatments plants. Thewestern portion of the village is served by atreatment plant in Sussex.
During an appearance at the Oct. 7Village Board meeting, MMSD controller andtreasurer Mark Kaminski indicated theincrease in the user fee for an averageMenomonee Falls household is projected toincrease by $2.81 next year.
As a whole, the fees are projected to
increase 5.5 percent to $1,820,000.Kaminski said that figure represented anincrease in use by several businesses in the vil-lage. He said the district is requesting a 1.75percent increase in total user charges, whichwould result in an increase of $113.62 for anaverage household in the village.
Kaminski said the capital charges areexpected to remain flat. For communitieswhich are members of MMSD, capitalcharges are expected to increase 2.85 per-cent. The agency will then reduce that amountfor individual communities which are not
directly affected by specific capital projects.
Among the project that MMSD is under-taking that will not be paid for byMenomonee Falls residents are improvementsto the Kinnickinnic watershed and a new proj-ect along the 30th Street corridor inMilwaukee.
While a portion of Menomonee Falls isserved by MMSD, it is not a member of theorganization. By not being an MMSD mem-ber, the village saved $15 million between1998 and 2014 compared to if had been anMMSD member community, Kaminski said.
During questioning by the board, VillagePresident Randy Newman asked if the agencycontinues address the inflow and infiltration
of groundwater into private laterals linking upwith the sewer system.
Menomonee Falls has always been anexcellent leader on this, and Im not just say-ing this because Im standing in MenomoneeFalls. Youve been one of the progressive com-munities on dealing with inflow and infiltra-tion, said Kevin Schafer, MMSD executivedirector.
He said the agency started a program inwhich communities could be reimbursed foraddressing inflow and infiltration in privatesewer laterals.

Katie Kohel got a nice surprise whileteaching at Shady Lane Elementary SchoolOct. 1.
Unexpected and unannounced at leastto Kohel - Representatives from OfficeMax sur-prised the Shady Lane fourth-grade teacherwith $1,000 of classroom supplies, includinga new chair and Amazon Kindle Fire.
A surprised Kohel was told not to partici-pate in crazy hair day because photos wereto be taken of her class. She had no ideawhat was really happening.
Principal Brad Hoffman nominated Kohel. She is among 1,000 teachers across the coun-try to receive the honor.
"Not only does Mrs. Kohel care deeplyabout her students and make sure they learn
every day, she is also a leader in our school,"said Hoffman. "She is always an early imple-menter when there is new district trainings orcurricula."
Kohel is a mentor, a member of ShadyLanes leadership team and is the coach forthe schools Positive Behavior Interventionsand Supports (PBIS).
"Mrs. Kohel has worked hard to create an
environment where students, parents and staffknow what the expectations are, not only aca-demically, but behaviorally as well," Hoffmansaid. "The expectations are clear, and expect-ed behaviors are taught, recognized and rein-forced."
Typical of Kohels character, she instantlysaid she would share the huge box of supplieswith the rest of the school.
OfficeMax and AdoptAClassroom.orgjoined together to create A Day Made Betterto help ease the financial burden for teachers.Selected teachers were nominated by theirprincipals for demonstrating passion, dedica-tion and innovation in the classroom.
Since 2007, A Day Made Better andother OfficeMax Goodworks programs have
contributed more than $25 million in grantsand supplies to support more than 31,000teachers and their classrooms. Additionally, through the annual event OfficeMax hashelped its nonprofit partnerAdoptAClassroom.org secure funding formore than 100,000 classrooms nationwide.

of Germany; In the United States, the average value
added per worker in manufacturing is$118,419. In China , it is $13,266.
The value added per U.S. manufacturing
worker is almost 10 times the value of China,Barnard said.Barnard said manufacturing should be
the engine for the future and it should be anarea in which both schools and public policyfocus for such a long period of time.Unfortunately, we dont see t hat happening.
According to Barnard, the United Stateshas gone from being an energy importertoward being an energy exporter. By 2020,the United States will be energy independent,he said.
Seven years ago, you would never, everhave believed that was going to happen, hesaid.
The implication of that will be an increasedemphasis on jobs in the manufacturing sector,as there will be 3.3 million new jobs being cre-ated due to energy independence. Also, $468billion will be added to the gross domesticproduct and $258 billion will be added to theannual industrial output.
The bottom line is we have to continue to
focus in manufacturing as our future. In thenext five to 10 years, its going to be very clearthat the United States is going to be the pre-eminent manufacturer in the world, Barnardsaid.
He said the single biggest challenge isfinding the people to work in the manufactur-ing sector and explained that businesses in themanufacturing sector will have to continue tochange and plan for the jobs of tomorrow.
If we do that properly, then people willlook at manufacturing not as a plant, not as anold job classification, not as whether youreunion or non-union, as a machinist or anassembler theyll be looking at manufactur-ing as the anchor on which this country isgoing to grow for the next 10 to 15 years,Barnard said. I really mean that because thatreally is our future.
Harvey Neu of Neus Building Centeradded that a strong manufacturing communi-
ty makes for a strong community strongschools, strong housing market, strong every-thing.
Neu added that he is amazed what isproduced in the area which is created by thelocal workforce and used globally.
We want that workforce to continue togrow and support these manufacturers, Neusaid.

HUNTERS PROTECT YOUR HEARING
DURING HUNTING SEASON!People who use firearms are more likely to develop hearing loss than those who do
not. Firearm users tend to have high-frequency permanent hearing loss, which meansthat they may have trouble hearing speech sounds like "s," "th," or "v" and other high-pitched sounds.
The good news is that people can prevent hearing loss by using appropriate hearing pro-tective devices (HPDs), such as earmuffs or earplugs. However, studies have shown thatonly about half of shooters wear hearing protection all the time when shooting. Huntersare even less likely to wear hearing protection because they say they cannot hearapproaching game or other noises. Call us today to schedule your free appointment so wecan help you choose the type of hearing protection that is right for you.
TIPSTO PROTECTYOURHEARINGAlways use some type of hearing protection any time you fire a gun.Always have disposable HPDs handymake them part of your gear. Double-protect your ears, like putting muffs over plugs, when shooting big-bore firearms. Choose smaller caliber firearms for shooting and hunting. Choose single-shot firearms instead of lever action, pump, or semi-automatic guns.
Avoid shooting in groups or in reverberant environments. Use electronic or nonlinear HPDs for hunting.
