Domestic violence A male subject was arrested for dis-

orderly conduct-domestic violence at5:07 p.m. Nov. 1 following an alterca-tion with his wife in the N8000 block ofLilly Road. Investigation revealed he hadshoved the victim into the wall two timesduring an argument.

A male subject was arrested on twocounts of disorderly conduct-battery andon one count of disorderly conduct-domestic violence at 2:37 p.m. Oct. 30

as a result of a physical altercation withhis wife and daughter at their residencein the W13000 block of Fond du LacAvenue. The wife was treated for minorinjuries to her left wrist.

Drug possession A male subject was arrested for

possession of marijuana and drug para-phernalia at 3:14 a.m. Oct. 30 followinga traffic stop in the 14500 block ofCommerce Drive.

Noise nuisance Police responded to the report of a

loud air cannon blown repeatedly

between the hours of 8 a.m. and 2:30p.m. Nov. 1 near the N8000 block ofEsquire Road.

Operating while intoxicated A 20-year-old woman was arrested

for operating while intoxicated-secondoffense at 1:13 a.m. Nov. 1 after she wasstopped for speeding at MenomoneeAvenue and Sunset Ridge Drive. Thewoman initially gave police a false iden-tification card that listed her as 26.

Theft Police responded to a theft in

The Menomonee Falls girls volleyball teamwon the first two games against Westosha

Central in the WIAA Division I title match inGreen Bay Nov. 9, and was in control with a20-12 lead in the third game.

That is when Westosha Central whichrallied to beat Menomonee Falls in a freneticsemifinal on the way to their title in 2006 started its final rally of the contest. TheBulldogs scored three straight points. After aMenomonee Falls point, Westosha Centralscored three more points and trailed 21-16.

At about that time, a voice called out fromthe Menomonee Falls fan section.

Finish the job, Falls, the fan said.The job was finished moments later, as

Menomonee Falls which had been amongthe top teams in the state for more than adecade won its first title for girls volleyball.

Weve been climbing for four years andweve finally made it, senior setter AbbyBecker said moments after Menomonee Fallsfinished a 25-17, 25-18, 24-16 win overWestosha Central in the title match.

It is one of many firsts. It was the first trip tothe state tournament final since a loss in 2000to West Bend East. In four previous stateappearances since 2006, Menomonee Fallslost once in the quarterfinal and three times inthe semifinal.

It is the first WIAA team tournament of anykind for Menomonee Falls High School sincethe school was created from the merger of

North and East high schools starting with the1984-85 school year. It was the first WIAAteam title for the School District ofMenomonee Falls since 1982.

I was really excited. To come out here

with all of my best friends and to finally dowhat we wanted to do since freshman year,finally get the state title its amazing, out-side hitter Simone Lee said.

It was a long-awaited title, and one thatcame following recent disappointments. In2011, Menomonee Falls lost in the regionalfinal following an injury to a key player in thelatter part of that season.

In 2012, Menomonee Falls advanced tothe state semifinal, only to run into a history-making performance by Burlingtons CiaraCapezio, who recorded a record 37 kills in afour-set match as Burlington won the title a day

later.This year was different, as MenomoneeFalls was the team to beat.

Were the first team in the history ofMenomonee Falls to win state, MaddieMicech noted right after the title win.

Menomonee Falls came into the matchranked first in the state coaches poll for most ofthe season. Two of Menomonee Falls four loss-es came to East Troy, which won the Division 2title hours before the Division I match.

Lee noted that everyone knew that Fallswas the team to beat, but we came out readyto play. Willing to make mistakes, but also will-ing to make new plays, make better plays, andget better every single day. I know there was a

Prior to the title match, Menomonee FallsCoach J.C. Bruns told his team the momentwould also be for past teams and past playersthat brought the team to state.

Theres many great players that havecome before them that have fallen short itsfor them, too. We talked about that in ourpregame discussions, Bruns said. Thatswhat this is all about. Its our team, theyrewearing the jerseys those girls wore in thepast, but these (players) were able to comethrough.

Among those in attendance at the champi-onship match was Janelle Gabrielsen, whowas part of the 2004, 2006 and 2007 teamsthat advanced to the state tournament.Gabrielsen later played at UW-Madison andis now the head volleyball coach atConcordia University Wisconsin in Mequon.

They played amazing, Simone playedamazing, the seniors did a great job,Gabrielsen said. It was so amazing to seeFalls finally get that state title, I was so excited.And the fact that they fought so hard and gaveWestosha the game of their life was just awe-some.

She then added: Im proud ofMenomonee Falls right now. I think J.C. did agreat job and Im happy for him.

The Schauer Centers Community School ofthe Arts is offering the opportunity for youth toparticipate in the Rising Stars theater productionDisneys 101 Dalmatians Kids. Students will beled through the process of putting on a musicalculminating in performances on Jan. 24 and 25,2014.

Local youth ages 7-18 are invited to auditionfor the production at the Schauer Arts & ActivitiesCenter, 147 N. Rural Street, Hartford.

Auditions for ages 7-10 will take place onMonday, Nov. 25 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Students will be taught a song from the show andare not required to prepare any material. Auditions for ages 11-18 will be on

Tuesday, Nov. 26 from 4:30 to 8:15 pm.

Students should prepare a short monologue and16 bars of music.

Students ages 12 and above may alsoaudition for crew positions on Tuesday, Nov. 26from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Pre-register for auditions bycalling 262-670-0560, ext. 204, or [email protected].

North Middle School received two grantsfrom the Wisconsin Retired EducatorsAssociation (WREA) during the Nov. 11

School Board meeting.Two challenge awards worth $2,000each were presented for two programs atNorth the Falls pride program, which wasled by Associate Principal Scott Marty, and theJob Market Ready initiative which was ledby the counseling staff.

Carol Lamp, past state president of theWREA, explained that the criteria used for theaward is that the activity can be no more thantwo years old and has to be endorsed by thesuperintendent. Applications are judged basedon overall impression and effectiveness, thedegree to which the program has made an

impact to the students, school and community;and the degree to which the program reflectscreativity and originality; and the ability for

which the program serves as a catalyst for con-tinued success.

The awards are presented within fiveWREA district areas of the state.

Marcia Trentlage, president-elect of theWREA, cited submitted information which indi-

cated that during the 2010-11 school year,behavior incidents were high, with suspensionlevels seven times above neighboring middleschool. Falls pride was implemented inresponse.

According to information presented to theWREA, North started using the PositiveBehavior and Intervention (PBIS) framework toteach positive behavior to students along withcreating rewards for students when they sawpositive behavior occurring. To fund therewards, the school partnered with localrestaurants for fund-raiser nights. A school pos-itive behavior T-shirt was provided to every stu-

dent, with funding coming from a donation bya local orthodontist.Also, a team of teachers and administra-

tors were trained in restorative practice andbegan implementing the practice on a smallscale. By the end of the year, behavior inci-dents decreased and suspensions dropped by46 percent.

The positive change in the atmosphere at

North is noticeable and parents have also pro-vided positive feedback, Trentlage said.As part of the Job Market Ready initia-

tive, the curriculum for homeroom classes wasupdated to include a stronger focus on collegeand career readiness. In sixth grade, studentscompleted surveys on academic strengths andlearning styles. By eighth grade, students areresearching various career options and select-ing their top t hree, according to Trentlage.

Also, participation in job market events hasexpanded. While a small group of studentsattended a local job expo and career fair, theJob Market Ready program held its own pro-

gram at the school, which featured speakersand presenter in job areas with high pay andemployee need.

Trentlage further stated the Job MarketReady program has changed curriculum from

traditional technical education toward STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)and Project Lead the Way programming.

In addition, Trentlage said North staffwear college apparel every Wednesday.

It makes them aware of what they can

be, Trentlage said of the Job Market Readyinitiative said.Marty and Principal Lynn Grimm received

Teachers that were involved in each pro-gram were invited to the board meeting.

To be honest, I could have invited all 75of the teachers, all 125 of the staff members atNorth, Grimm said. It truly has been everysingle employee at North that has been par t ofboth of these programs.

School District Superintendent PatriciaGreco said that as she was joining the district

three years ago, North had great pride andalso had significant data around areas forimprovement. You guys have really taken thecharge and changed not only the number butreally the response level to s tudents.

Days after leading the Menomonee Fallsgirls volleyball team to its first state champi-onship, Simone Lee officially signed the paper-work to play volleyball next season at PennState.

Lee signed the letter of intent to play for theNittany Lions during an event at theMenomonee Falls High School gym Nov. 13.

Lee posed for photos with her parents andteammates during the presentation. She wasthen part of the taping of a presentation for the

Preps Plus television show.Afterward, Lee cited the academics at

Penn State and said the volleyball program istop notch.

Its nice to know that I can play volleyballat a very well respected college and also geta great education, too, Lee said.

Lee said she first started being recruited byPenn State between her freshman and sopho-

more years of high school. She went to thePenn State camp that summer and stayed intouch with coaches via email. She was offi-cially offered a scholarship the next summerwhen she returned to the camp.

Its such a great opportunity to go to thatschool, Lee said.

Lee indicated that her post college plans atthis point focus on being a genetic counselor.She said the profession is growing by 30 per-cent from last year to this year.

Lee was recruited by all the Big Tenschools and some schools from the Pac-12 andSoutheastern conferences. She made visits toseveral Big 10 schools and a few schools inFlorida.

Lee will be graduating from MenomoneeFalls early and will begin her studies at PennState in January.

The rubbing of the dentureagainst this tissue leads to bone loss as well.People lose bone at an alarming rate and overthe first 5 years there can be a loss of 60% of theoriginal bone height and or width. If you comein for a comprehensive examination and x-rayvisit we can discuss your options, the associatedcosts and the time involved to help you reachyour goals.

Options for fixed dentistry on implants will beeither a "hybrid" prosthesis-a fixed denture thatis cemented or screwed into the implants or afixed porcelain bridge on implants. In order foryou to get these prostheses you would need 6-9implants in the upper arch and 5-9 implants inthe lower jaw. The number of implants dependson the quality, quantity and location of yourexisting bone as well as your budget.

The Washington County Youth HockeyAssociation's Pee Wee "A" team defeated theKensington Valley (MI) Renegades 2-1 to winthe championship of the Great LakesTournament Series Veteran's Cup in Holland,Mich. November 10th.

After posting pool play victories over theLakeland (MI) Hawks 2-1 and KensingtonValley 7-2. As well as a defensive battle 0-0 tieversus the Omaha (NE) Jr. Lancers, the Pee Wee"A" Ice were the top seed in the championshipgame.

Kensington Valley struck first on the powerplay at the 4:06 mark of the first period. Sevenminutes later, Tyler Herzberg connected withAdam Butler on a nifty backhand to knot thescore at 1-1. The game remained tied until 6:11in the 3rd period when Brady MacDonaldfound Ethan Coughlin in the slot for a 2-1 Icelead that they would never relinquish. NoahGrannan stopped 13 of the 14 shots he facedto secure the championship for the Ice.

"It was a great weekend of hockey for theboys," said 1st year head coach Al Haga. "Westarted out a little slow in pool play and reallyfound a grove during the game against Omaha.The boys played hard and even when giving upthe first goal in three games, they never believed

TOWN OF MERTON - This doesn't usually

happen to a team like Arrowhead. Thedefending Division I state champions werestuck in neutral in their high-scoring offensethat failed to score a touchdown in the firsthalf but woke up in the last 24 minutes to drivetheir point home to visiting Germantown in a36-3 win in the WIAA Level 3 playoffs athome, Nov. 8.

What was supposed to be a cakewalk forArrowhead ended up being a nightmare forthem at that point and a triumph for aGermantown defense that held Arrowhead to

only 3 points in the half."With a team like that, you can't make mis-

takes," Germantown coach Jake Davis said."Unfortunately, we made too many tonight.

Our defense did a great job keeping them outof the end zone (in the first half)."Germantown won the toss, received the

ball and came out of the gate running. Theymoved the ball on two plays for 72 yards, get-ting down to the Arrowhead 7 yard line.Junior quarterback Dwayne Lawhorn J r. threwthe Arrowhead secondary off guard with pass-es of 43 and 31 yards to senior receiverNathan Walters and junior tight end ColeKarcz. On the next play, Lawhorn threw aninterception to Arrowhead junior linebackerAndy Hessler, killing the drive and throwingaway at least a field goal.

Arrowhead (11-1) got its only score of thehalf on a 37-yard field goal by senior kickerTrevor Osling for a 3-0 lead. Germantowntried to even the score in the second quarter,but a 52-yard attempted field goal by juniorCarter Schmitz was blocked. On Arrowhead'sthree possessions in the quarter, theGermantown defense stopped them on twofourth downs of long drives and had a three-and-out.

With 1 minute 5 seconds remaining in thehalf, the visitors went six plays and got as faras the Arrowhead 30 before Schmitz made a47-yard field goal as time ran out. The gamewas tied at 3-3.

"We had some good drives," Davis said."We really did. We just needed to finish moreand that would have been the key to our suc-cess. Our kids believed that they had achance and they were going to get this doneand we were almost there."

Once Arrowhead realized what hit them,their defense created points for the offense.Lawhorn threw two interceptions in the thirdquarter, which resulted in two Arrowheadscores.

His first pick was caught by Arrowheadsenior defensive back Kevin Driscoll. Thatturned into a 10-yard touchdown on nine

plays by junior running back Cody Sellhausenwith 9:00 left. The point after touchdown wasblocked.

Walters caught four passesfor 85 yards for Germantown and Karczgained 52 yards on his four catches.Arrowhead had 386 yards of total offense toGermantown's 277, which finished the seasonat 9-3.

The Menonomonee Falls girls volleyballteam got off to a fast start against WestoshaCentral Nov. 9 on the way to a three-game

sweep of the Bulldogs in the WIAA Division Ivolleyball championship at the Resch Center.Menomonee Falls defeated Westosha

Central 25-17, 25-18, 25-18 to earn the schoolits first WIAA team championship since the cur-rent Menomonee Falls High School was creat-ed from the merger of North and East highschools in 1984.

Finally, finally, finally, Menomonee FallsCoach J.C. Bruns said afterward.

Menomonee Falls has qualified for thestate tournament four times since 2006, losingonce in the quarterfinal and three times in thesemifinal prior to t his years championship run.

Im speechless, Bruns said. Ive gonethrough this moment in my mind and I knowthat the girls have, too. Im just so happy forthem because they worked so hard, and theydeserve it so much.

Outside hitter Simone Lee later said theywere determined to come home with a title.

We never had a thought in our mind wewouldnt win this. We knew that if we playedour game, no one could beat us, Lee said.

Menomonee Falls jumped out to a 12-3lead in the first game, a run which includedfour kills by Lee. Westosha Central gradually

cut into the Menomonee Falls lead, as a kill byAshley Jehlicka of Westosha Central made thescore 21-16 in favor of Menomonee Falls. ButKatherine Von Bank followed with two kills asMenomonee Falls scored five of the last sixpoint to finish the match.

It had a little bit of a Mukwonago feel toit, the way we started playing, Bruns said,referring to the Indians sectional final win overMukwonago which started with an early scor-ing run. Bruns noted that Lee got off to a fasterstart than in the state semifinal win over SunPrairie the previous evening.

Then we just kept them off balance the

rest of the night, Bruns said of WestoshaCentral.Westosha Central stayed close with

Menomonee Falls throughout the secondgame, as a kill by Centrals Maria Raschreduced the Indians lead to 14-12. ButMenomonee Falls responded by scoring the

next four points. Menomonee Falls graduallystretched its lead, as a kill by AngelicaLabermeier gave Menomonee Falls a 23-15lead. Central scored the next three pointsbefore Menomonee Falls closed out the gameby the last two points, with the last point com-

ing on a kill by Lee.Menomonee Falls scored the first fourpoints of the third game but the Bulldogsstayed close in the early stages of the thirdgame, as a Menomonee Falls block going outof bound reduced their lead to 11-8. The teamstraded points before Menomonee Falls scoredfour points to take a 16-9 lead. MenomoneeFalls then finished the game by scoring thefinal three points to win the title.

Lee led Menomonee Falls with 21 killswhile Von Bank added nine kills. Abby Beckeradded six kills, Labermeier recorded three killswhile Erin Otzelberger and Lyndsey Bassler

recorded two kills each.

Becker led the team with 26 assists whileBrittany Robinson recorded two aces.Afterwards, Bruns noted the key contributionsfrom all players on the court.

(Labermeier) got us some points as well on theright, Abby did her second ball over thingtonight, and Simone made things happen inthe big time, Bruns said.

Lee noted that team remained calm underall circumstances and was able to workthrough situations.

This group has never worried, neverwavered, they always had it under control andall the credit to the girls, Bruns said.

Von Bank added that the team was readyfor the moment.

The past two nights weve been very com-posed and we wanted it so badly, outside hit-

ter Von Bank said.

Winning the title: Falls volleyball sweeps Westosha Central

The Menomonee Falls girls volleyball teamrallied from an eight-point deficit to win the firstgame against Sun Prairie at the state DivisionI semifinal Nov. 8, and then swept the next twogames to advance to the state title game.

Menomonee Falls topped the Cardinals25-19, 25-17, 25-18 in the semifinal at theResch Center in Green Bay.

Menomonee Falls which was ranked firstin the last regular season coaches poll whileSun Prairie received an honorable mention fell behind early in the first game as the

Cardinals led 11-3 following an ace by middlehitter Molly Livingston. But the Indiansanswered with a 4-1 run and then tied thegame at 14-14 on a kill by Katherine VonBank. After a Livingston kill gave Sun Prairie a15-14 lead, Menomonee Falls scored the nextfive points to break the game open.

Afterwards, Menomonee Falls Coach J.C.Bruns noted that outside hitter Simone Lee gotoff to a slow start but that the rest of the teamrallied.

You see how much of a team we are, howwe picked up around her and got things undercontrol, Bruns said. "That's experience, seniorleadership, not going down without a fight,"

He later said his team has "no fear. Notworried about anything more cool, calm andcollected than I am. I'm totally all right withthat."

Lee singled out her teammates for theirperformance in the semifinal, including theserving of Brittany Robinson, blocking fromAngelica Labermeier, and Erin Otzelbergerand Lyndsey Bassler on both the block andkey kills.

We have so many offensive and defen-sive weapons it doesnt matter who is on thecourt, you know that were going to get to jobdone, Lee said.

Lee added that the team forgot about theslow start and got back into rhythym for therest of the match.

Bruns noted that his team lost in the statesemifinal three times since he took over ascoach nine years ago.

The girls arent going to let it happen. Asmany times as it looked bleak, in a couple ofmatches and a couple of games we played

here tonight, they werent going to let it hap-

pen and Im pretty excited about it, Brunssaid.In the second game the teams were within

one point of each other until a kill by Von Banksparked a three-point run. Menomonee Fallsfinished the game with a five-point run t hat wasclosed out on a kill by Lee.

The Cardinals stayed close to MenomoneeFalls for most of the third game but a 6-1 rungave the Indians a 19-14 lead following ablock. Sun Prairie was unable to cut into theIndians lead.

Menomonee Falls hadnt played SunPrairie this year but went up against the

Cardinals in 2012. Bruns said he sought to getSun Prairie out of system during the match.Lee led Menomonee Falls with 19 kills

while Von Bank and Abby Becker had fivekills, Erin Otzelberger had four kills, Basslerhad three kills and Angelica Labermeier hadtwo kills. Becker led Menomonee Falls with 24assists.

Bruns noted that one of the things that thecoaching staff has done is to work on devel-oping the teams role players. Bruns noted thatOtzelberger and Labermeier dont play clubvolleyball.

To see what theyre doing out here, mak-ing big blocks and big kills in the state semifi-

nal, is really pretty awesome to see, Brunssaid.

Menomonee Falls advanced to the titlegame against Westosha Central, which beatNeenah 25-18, 21-25, 25-21, 25-15 in theother semifinal.

As happy as they were with the semifinalwin, Bruns noted that his team was focused onfinishing the task the next day.

They know their job is not done, they did-nt come here to be happy to be here. Theycame here to finish this, this is all on them this is all on them, Bruns said.

Nov. 7: The state run beginsMenomonee Falls opened the tournamentwith a 25-17, 25-17, 16-25, 25-17 quarterfinalwin over Pius XI Nov. 7.

Lee led Menomonee Falls with 21 killswhile Becker added 16 kills, Von Bank fivekills, Labermeier and Otzelberger both addedthree kills while Mackenzie Robinson andBassler added two kills each.
