To whom this may concern:
I’m Mercia Coetzee, a final year student studying B Consumer Science: Hospitality Management at the
University of Pretoria. I started my studies in 2013 and I’m planning to graduate in the present year. I
would really like to work in the Hospitality Industry next year, as I have some work experience I gained
over my four years of study. In 2013 I worked part-time at the Protea Hotel Highveld in Witbank where I
gained experience in Waitressing, Front office: Reception, Room service and House Keeping. In 2014 I
worked part-time at Equality Reef Services where they hosted and catered the end year function for Anglo
American: Greenside Collery Mine. In 2015 I worked part-time at Mystical Mansion Guesthouse in
Witbank where I gained experience in Banqueting as they host a lot of functions for businesses and other
clients as well as conferences, I also worked at their reception. Recently I worked at Mama Lisa’s
Restaurant in Witbank where I shadowed their floor manager throughout the service. During the course of
the four years we had to work a total of 280 hours internally, as we hosted functions of our own in our
third year, second semester, as well as throughout our final year. Hosting a function required planning
everything on your own from the menu, setting up of the venue, preparing the food as well as managing
your team as we were only 9 students in total.
In my 3rd year of study we did a computer course in our Tourism subject, where we learned the basics of
the Opera and Apex Management Systems.
In 2015 we had a short wine and food pairing course where we learned the fundamentals and basics of
food and wine pairing at the University of Pretoria as part of a subject.
I’m good at working with people and working in teams.
Thank you very much for your consideration.
Best regards,
Mercia Coetzee
