THE FAITHFUL STEWARD Charitable Gifts Before Year’s End

Gifts of Securities If you own long-term appreciated securities, you can transfer shares to help our parish through an account administered by the Archdiocese of Chicago. By such a gift, you will receive a charitable deduction for the full, fair market value of the gift without paying tax on the capital gain. You must be sure to transfer the shares directly from your account to the Archdiocesan account. To obtain the Archdiocesan account information, contact Elin Schriver, the Archdiocese’s Planned Giving Coordinator, at [email protected] or 312-534-5396. If you own stock in the form of a certificate, please contact our business manager at Saint Gilbert, Sandra Garrity at 847-223-4731 for more details.

Charitable Gift Annuities: For those who are looking to generate some extra income, a charitable gift annuity may be the perfect solution. Gift annuities pay one or two beneficiaries an income for life, at a fixed rate that is tied to their age(s). The payments are partially tax-free, and an income tax charitable deduction is also available. When the beneficiary passes away, the remainder in the gift annuity contract will benefit the parish. To receive a free proposal, you may once again contact Ellen Schriver, the Archdiocese’s Planned Giving Coordinator, at [email protected] or 312-534-5396.

Today we celebrate the feast of Christmas and hear how the shepherds found Mary and Joseph and the infant lying in the manger. Then they left glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen.

Your gifts to the Society of St. Vincent dePaul helped those who are poor and suffering to find Emmanuel and they also came to know that “God is with us.”

CHRISTMAS DAY

“The angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord.’” —Luke 2: 10-11

Let us pray,

Lord our God, plant within our hearts your living Word of promise, that, into a world grown weary of empty dreams and broken promises, we may bring forth the living presence of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. AMEN.

(Advent colors of the wreath are changed to white and gold and a fifth white candle is placed in the center of the wreath and is lit.)
