Pieter Theron, Partner/Director, PWC

“Industrie 4.0—Building Your Digital Enterprise”

Pieter started his career as Specialist Engineer at Sasol Synfuels in 1991 investigating and implementing advanced technology such as Expert Systems and Neural networks in real process industries. He then moved into systems integration within Keops Isis where he filled positions as Project Manager, Consulting Manager and Managing Director. When the business moved into the Bytes organisation he filled the role of Divisional Director within Bytes System Integration before moving back into Project & Programme man-agement for four years. After the four years Pieter joined PWC as an Associate in 2012 and made Partner in 2015. In his current role Pieter helps clients in Mining, Manufacturing, Oil & Gas industries to disrupt business models through the use of digital technologies.

Dr. Willie Oosthuysen, Group Executive: Technology & Strategy, Altron

“IoT and other Disruptive Technology” Willie holds a Master’s Degree in Network Management Systems, a Ph.D. in Computer Science & Applied Mathematics (both from University of Free State) and a M.B.A. in Management, Economics, Advertising from MIT Sloane School of Management. Willie started his career at Sasol in Technical Operations: Networking Systems before joining Cisco in 1999. He held various positions at Cisco until he joined Altech as CTO in 2011 and finally moved into Altron as Group Executive with overall responsibility for the long-range direction of technological planning, development and delivery within the group.

Gerhard Botha, Head of MES Architecture, Sasol

“Technology Trends in a Disruptive Age”

Although a Chemical Engineer by trade, Gerhard has followed his passion in pursuit of a career in IT. He

joined the Sasol IT division to implement integrated manufacturing execution systems for the Secunda

complex, was subsequently appointed as an enterprise architect for the Secunda operations in 2003,

and then became a Sasol group architect. In 2014, following a four-year period delving into the business

relationship side of IT, Gerhard re-joined Sasol’s newly formed enterprise architecture team as the Head

of Group MES architecture.

Johan Sipho Coetzee

“The High Road”

Johan Sipho Coetzee has been involved in ICT for longer than 30 years. He has a B.Sc. degree and a

MBA degree. His career includes 13 years at Sasol, 8 years at Business Connexion (various Sales

Management and Outsource Management roles) and 3½ years at Gijima, where he led a team of approx.

550 technical people delivering ICT Infrastructure Support services in close to 1400 locations across

South Africa to Absa.

Sipho experienced several personal challenges. His oldest son died in an accident in mid-2008. At the

end of his career at Gijima he got retrenched jointly with most of the Exco and Manco at Gijima. It was at

this period that Sipho suffered a serious health challenge. He got sick overnight with multiple sclerosis

(MS) in mid-2012 and landed in a wheelchair.

Hertzog Badenhorst, Operations Director, Clotan Steel

“ The 2016 MESA International North American Conference – A User Perspective”

Hertzog will tell the story of his visit to Chicago, Illinois in the USA to attend the MESA

International Smart Manufacturing conference and what he learned there, and from other

users.

Hertzog won the grand prize at the 2015 MESA Africa Conference for best presentation and

was sponsored by MESA Africa to attend the MESA International conference drawing over

4000 delegates from all parts of the world. He was also asked to facilitate one of the MESA

sessions at the conference
