three bank presidents (Presidents Tony, Joven and Edwin), panelists and from the delegates themselves should serve to inspire and embolden us to carry out our mission as the banking sector’s training arm with even greater confidence. On behalf of the BAIPHIL Board of Directors and Officers, I would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for the relentless efforts of the National Convention Committee, the other Committees and Sub-Committees, and the Secretariat including the Program Participants who collaborated closely for several months to put together an event of this magnitude. Indeed, we have walked the talk and leveled up to global standards, leveraging on our members’ strengths and making full use of synergies with our stakeholders, partners and sponsors. True to its promise, this convention has been a fruitful and meaningful event for every delegate and for BAIPHIL. We recognize though that there are certain areas that we can strive to improve on. With your commitment, professionalism and dedication, let us continue to uplift the quality of our banking professionals in order to achieve our vision of banking excellence. Cheers and congratulations again to all! God bless.

BAIPHIL 29th National Convention Taal Vista Hotel, Tagaytay City 10-11 March 2017
By: Mr. Angelo Dennis L. Matutina Over-all Chairperson, BAIPHIL 29th National Convention The event was also covered in BusinessWorld Online, in a write-up by Ms. Flor Tarriela, "BAIPHIL Convention levels up" dated 24 March 2017. BAIPHIL held its 29th National Convention last March 10-11, 2017 at Taal Vista Hotel in Tagaytay City. There were more than 200 delegates from BAIPHIL associate and lifetime members, guests from member banks and accounting firms and sponsors. The two-day convention adopted the theme “Leveraging on Capabilities and Synergies for Banking Excellence.” The convention was opened by the keynote speech of Senate President Aquilino L. Pimentel III who talked about “Reforms in Governance and Taxation”. The general session covered Information Security & Evolving Risk on Cybersecurity and we invited five subject matter experts from the Bangko Sentral, Philippine National Police, solutions provider and subject matter experts from the financial industry to share actual cases that we have seen in the recent times. We heard Deputy Governor Diwa C. Guinigundo, Deputy Governor Nestor A. Espenilla, Jr. and Governor Amando M. Tetangco, Jr. talk about Critical Economic Challenges Facing Policymakers Around the Globe, Financial Innovation & FinTech, and the Impact of the ASEAN Integration to Philippine banking, respectively. We even had one unique session, “The President’s Hour,” where three distinguished bank Presidents shared with us their outlook on retail innovation, applicable technology and vision towards the future of the banking industry. Our guest from Mastercard talked about “Staying Relevant in a Hyper Connected World”; DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez discussed the role of banks in helping the growth of MSME, and Rev. Father Armand Robleza spoke on “The Code of Champions.” Aside from the thirty-five exhibit booths, there were twenty-one sponsors that handled the technical sessions on Digitization, Productivity, Cybersecurity and Risk Management. Indeed, the National Convention levelled up! Congratulations to BAIPHIL President Liza Ortiz, BAIPHIL Board, National Convention Director-in-Charge Bles Andres and all committees under the National Convention Committee. Everyone will agree that it was a convention to remember!!!

Beyond Banking: the Search for the Best Corporate Social Responsibility Project During BAIPHIL 29th National Convention March 10-11, 2017
By: Ms. Maria Elena M. Ruiz Chairperson, Special Projects Committee, BAIPHIL The Search for the Best Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Project was initially conceptualized by the Special Projects Committee during BAIPHIL’s 28th National Convention in 2015. It aimed to provide a venue to recognize and promote the member institutions’ CSR projects, as well as to serve as an inspiration to the banking industry. On its first year, this Corporate Social Responsibility Award took the form of a DELEGATES CHOICE CSR AWARD, wherein from among the exhibits during the convention, the delegates casted their personal votes from the impressive exhibit of CSR participants then. Levelling up on its second year under the Theme: “Beyond Banking: the Search for the Best Social Responsibility Project”, the Special Projects Committee, headed by its Chairperson, Marilen Medina-Ruiz and Atty. Rhoneil Fajardo, Chief Adviser of the Board, engaged independent Board of Judges, experts in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility, who screened and rated each of the CSR Folios or Bid Books submitted by the participating banks. The criteria include Relevance, Impact, Sustainability Engagement and Replicability each with a weight of 20%. Twelve member banks participated and showed their best CSR projects in a photo exhibit which was graced by Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III during the convention namely:

Beyond Banking: the Search for the Best Corporate Social Responsibility Project During BAIPHIL 29th National Convention March 10-11, 2017
The convention delegates discovered the colorful stories behind the scenes of these great institutions who went out of their comfort zones in banking to reach out to our less fortunate fellowmen, and help transform lives in various sectors and communities around the country. The Awarding Ceremony was held during the closing ceremony of the convention with BSP Governor Amando Tetangco Jr., BAIPHIL President Liza Ortiz, and Ms. Reese Fernandez-Ruiz, one of the judges, as presentors. The top three winners were: Champion: Land Bank of the Philippines, 1st Runner Up: Security Bank & Trust Co. and 2nd Runner Up: Standard Chartered Bank. Indeed, BAIPHIL honors all the participating banks for going BEYOND BANKING. May their work inspire all of us more to make a difference in the lives of many more Filipinos who are in need, or to help transform our society for the greater good. May banks continue their role as a force not only in transforming capital and human resources but also as a force to continue to help in finding the good in humanity.
